Seven. That's how many ounces D gained between Thursday's bilirubin check and yesterday's week 1 weigh in. Only 6 oz more to go until she's back up to her birth weight.Luca commented that if I'd gained 1/2 a lb in a week, I'd freak out. I pointed out that in fact this would be reasonable since 1/2 a lb for D is the equivalent of 7% of her body weight, which on me would be more like 10 lbs. Which would be COMPLETELY REASONABLE to freak out over.I am really hungry a lot of the time, and I think I need to institute an overnight snack so that I don't feel so drained when I get up. It takes a few months to get the applications put together, so you should ideally start about two months before June 1st to fill out the applications or at least gather the required information and start working on your personal statement. What Is Cryptorchidism? (undescended testis)email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Cryptorchidism is the absence of one or both testes from the scrotum. It is the most common birth defect regarding male genitalia. In unique cases, cryptorchidism can develop later in life, often as late as young adulthood. About 3% of full-term and 30% of premature infant boys are born with at least one undescended testis. However, about 80% of cryptorchid testes descend by the first year of life (the majority within three months), making the true incidence of cryptorchidism around 1% overall. Cryptorchidism is distinct from monorchism the condition of having only one testicle. A testis absent from the normal scrotal pos...

An intussusception is a medical condition in which a part of the intestine has invaginated into another section of intestine, similar to the way in which the parts of a collapsible telescope slide into one another. This can often result in an obstruction. The part that prolapses into the other is called the intussusceptum, and the part that receives it is called the intussuscipiens. Early symptoms can include nausea, vomiting (sometimes bile stained (green color), pulling legs to the chest area, and intermittent moderate to severe cramping abdominal pain. Pain is intermittent not because the intussusception temporarily re...

Still, though, i think it'll raise some red flags to adcoms when they see that you were able to have a very high gpa when the difficulty of the work was low, but your gpa plummeted when the difficulty of the work picked up.As a general rule for people who went cc-> university, you want to see only a relatively small drop in GPA so you can show that you're capable of working at a very high level.Still, an overall 3.4 is a reasonably competitive gpa. Is my 1998 B.S. Computer Engineering degree enough?email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
by saoj (Posted Mon Jan 23, 2012 1:35 pm)I graduated in 1998, B.S in Computer Engineering with a 3.6 GPA. No biology classes. My electives were in economics (minor in Economics). Now I want to study for the MCAT and apply to Med School. My question is: Does my 15-year-old college degree meet the requirements to enter med school? I don't want to make the investment (time + money) to take the MCAT and later find out that I am not eligible to med school due to my college degree. Can the fact that my college degree is old (1998) be a problem? Am I lacking biology classes? Or if I do well on the MCAT the med schools will not ha...

by DOdoc (Posted Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:15 pm)Hi. Well, it sounds like you have your hands full, but I hope I can provide to you some information you have requested. To be honest, I am unclear on some of the details in your question, so if I am incorrect in the reply please clarify. It sounds like your question is how she can come into the US and complete residency here, and she will be using Canadian residencies as a back up if she cannot gain admission to a US program. Is that correct? If so, you all would need to know that this process is difficult at best--even for the most qualified individuals, so I'd suggest first being...

by wildcherry (Posted Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:45 am)Hey everyone, I'm really new to all this but I would greatly appreciate some advice early! So I'm a high school senior and I have been accepted into UCF Honors. I have done 2 years of Dual Enrollment at Valencia CC. So I just needed some help to kinda make a guideline to become a doctor. I can't really imagine doing anything else and I have wanted to be an Orthopedic Surgeon since I started High school. I sort of wish I had not done Dual Enrollment, because I have a 3.5 GPA and I wasn't really studying seriously. I only took one Bio class and got an 88. I believe my GPA resets...

by DOdoc (Posted Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:28 am)And absolutely I agree with you--the school does not matter nearly enough as the performance at said school. Even medical school--most employers only care that you successfully completed and got the degree from an accredited school. There could be certain circumstances in which it would matter but a candidate posting the numbers above--I think getting in to anywhere should be the main priority not the exactly specific school. And you raise a very, VERY good point--schools will look at candidates much differently with their own research, publication is icing. I would say this would ...

That said, nobody frowns on people who go for state schools, especially since the motivation is often financial. It's what you do there that will be important. Unless you are accepted to a very prestigious school, it's likely not worth the price hike to go to a private school over a state school.Prestige schools play a very small role in admissions I would say no more than 5% most times maybe a whopping 10% 90 to 95% is:GPA / MCATVolunteerShadowPatient contact ex...

I'm not saying it's right or wrong.Good luckI am sorry but I strongly disagree with you and find it pretty offensive even if you ask me not to. An MD is not more respected than a DO pure and simple. As you begin a new anatomy and physiology course, you will likely feel a bit overwhelmed with the flood of new terminology.  Or a lot overwhelmed with all the new terms. However, it need not be as big a struggle as you might first think.  There are some tricks and shortcuts . . . and I'm here to let you in on a few of those.Today's tip comes from my friend Jane, who is a very talented professor of foreign language.  She told me that research as shown that most people can easily learn five to seven new words a day.  That is, if you work at it, you can add about six new words to your vocabulary each day wi...

by emt2er-doc (Posted Sat Jan 21, 2012 2:50 pm)What you need to do is relax. that is the first thing. Take a breath and let it out. Do you have a lot of work to do to get out of the hole that you dug? Yes. Can it be done? Yes, I did it. Will it be hard? You bet. What you need to do is to show the adcoms that you can handle high level work. If you already have a degree, look into seeing if you really need to redo the pre-reqs. Realize that for Osteopathic schools, there is grade replacement but for MD schools there is grade averaging. In addition, if you are looking towards a masters degree, then you should avoid Public hea...

Almost everyone pays with credit cards and waitresses are alway looking for pens to leave on the table for their customers. by silksmith (Posted Sat Jan 21, 2012 5:04 am)Getting student loans is now almost essential if you want to attend a four-year college as a full-time student. Most people think that non credit based student loans should be made available by specialized private lenders who make it a point to make exceptions when it comes to a student borrower’s credit situation. But according to my approach i think credit based loans are more convinent.
