Targeted and immunotherapy for the management of advanced urothelial carcinoma of the bladder
CONCLUSION: Six targeted and immunotherapeutic agents have been approved for patients with advanced urothelial bladder cancer. They all have demonstrated activity in patients for whom disease has progressed during or after platinum-based therapy. Pembrolizumab, with and without enfortumab, has demonstrated first-line activity, and avelumab is a key maintenance therapy after first-line treatment. The results of additional clinical trials should provide evidence to establish the exact role in therapy of each agent in patients with advanced disease.PMID:38679913 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae090 (Source: American Journal of Health-S...

Approaches to medication history taking in different hospital settings: A scoping review
CONCLUSION: Most approaches focused on pharmacy staff, which are associated with considerable cost and resources. Therefore, IT-based approaches and patient engagement should be investigated as cost-effective alternatives and tested for superiority in the same setting. Reporting guidelines and standardized methodology are needed to improve the comparability of such studies.PMID:38660785 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae112 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

The pharmacist's role in optimizing medication management before, during, and after minimally invasive and bariatric surgery
CONCLUSION: Pharmacist contributions to perioperative medication management for MIS procedures can improve care as surgical patients navigate transitions through the perioperative setting. Pharmacists can further incorporate medication expertise through development and implementation of institutional MIS protocols within the context of ERPs. As such, any pharmacist should feel empowered to aid in the care of surgical patients.PMID:38662339 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae111 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

National trends in prescription drug expenditures and projections for 2024
CONCLUSION: For 2024, we expect overall prescription drug spending to rise by 10.0% to 12.0%, whereas in clinics and hospitals we anticipate an 11.0% to 13.0% increase and a 0% to 2.0% increase, respectively, compared to 2023. These national estimates of future pharmaceutical expenditure growth may not be representative of any health system because of the myriad of local factors that influence actual spending.PMID:38656319 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae105 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)
