Anti-viral Effects of Pavetta indica Methanolic Extract and Acyclovir on Behavioral and Biochemical Parameters in Streptozotocin-induced Alzheimer's Disease in Rats
CONCLUSION: In a dose-dependent manner, acyclovir and Pavetta indica methanolic extract treatments abrogated the streptozotocin-induced behavioral and neurological abnormalities in rats. The potential therapeutic effects of PIME and acyclovir administration in intracerebroventricular-streptozotocin-treated rats may be attributed to its potential antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. The current study suggests that Pavetta indica methanolic extract and acyclovir are promising therapeutic targets against Alzheimer's disease.PMID:38685761 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303273145240110100341 (Source: Endocrine, Metaboli...

Role of Clinical Features, Pathogenic and Etiological Characteristics of Community-acquired Pneumonia with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Early Diagnosis
CONCLUSION: Compared with those without diabetes, the infection rates of Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans were higher in patients with combined CAP/T2D.PMID:38686909 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303273741231117060753 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

Effects of Metformin Therapy on Thyroid Volume and Functions in Patients with Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Single-center Prospective Study
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that metformin treatment significantly reduces body weight, BMI, thyroid volume, and serum TSH, ALT, and Anti-TPO levels in patients with newly diagnosed T2DM. Moreover, serum TSH levels showed a significant decrease in non-obese subjects, while thyroid volume showed a significant decrease in obese subjects.PMID:38676519 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303307313240315162000 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

SARS-Cov-2 Infection: A New Risk Factor for Pituitary Apoplexy?
CONCLUSION: Alongside known risk factors (hypertension, anticoagulation, pregnancy, surgery, etc.), COVID-19 infection might represent an emerging predisposing factor for PA onset. The two cases hereby presented are both significant: the first confirms the role of "classic" vascular predisposing factors for PA, while the second demonstrates that PA might arise also in young patients without known risk factors.PMID:38676521 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303315494240419060719 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

Post-surgical Persistent Hyperparathyroidism Successfully Treated with Parathyroid Radiofrequency Ablation: A Case Report
CONCLUSION: A minimally invasive technique for PHPT may represent a valid alternative to surgery, especially in patients with an elevated surgery-related risk.
