Articaine Infiltrations of the Mandibular Lateral Incisor – Is it Volume or Location of the Infiltrations that Affect Success? A Prospective, Randomized Crossover Study
A combination labial infiltration (1.8 mL) plus lingual infiltration (1.8 mL) of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine in the mandibular lateral incisor was found superior to a labial infiltration of 1.8 mL of the same solution. However, it is not known whether the volume or the location had the greatest effect. Therefore, the purpose of this prospective, randomized crossover study was to determine the anesthetic efficacy of a labial infiltration of a 3.6 mL volume of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine compared to labial infiltration (1.8 mL) plus lingual infiltration (1.8 mL) of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephr...

Unraveling the endodontic archaeome: a systematic review with meta-analysis
The controversial issue of whether the Archaea domain plays a role in endodontic infections is the focus of this systematic review with meta-analysis. The aim is to emphasize the significance of minority microbial domains in oral dysbiosis by evaluating the prevalence of archaea in root canals and its association with clinical parameters such as symptomatology and type of endodontic infection. Retrospective evaluation of periradicular biopsies: an 18-year study
Radiographic findings in periradicular areas are repeatedly associated with infected root canal systems. Although non-odontogenic lesions in teeth are reported to be low, they often mimic periapical pathoses, and consequently, histopathologic examinations after surgical revisions are nurtured. Insights into the September 2023 Issue of the JOE
In this issue of the JOE, Liu et al., (1) explored the relationship between diabetes mellitus (DM) and apical periodontitis from 15 studies using meta-analysis. Eight of the studies were cross-sectional studies. Nine studies were longitudinal cohorts, and one cross-sectional cohort study was analyzed in this investigation. The authors used Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for Risk of Bias. The authors used odds ratio with 95% confidence interval to determine the quantitative analysis. A total of 1,087 patients were included in this meta-analysis. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Accumulated Hard Tissue Debris and Root Canal Shaping Profiles Following Instrumentation with Gentlefile, One Curve, and Reciproc Blue
This laboratory study aimed to evaluate the accumulated hard tissue debris (AHTD) and shaping performance following root canal instrumentation with a novel stainless steel rotary system (Gentlefile ®; MedicNRG, Kibbutz Afikim, Israel) compared with two single-file nickel-titanium instruments of different kinematics through micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) analysis. The effect of unintentional AH-Plus sealer extrusion on resolution of apical periodontitis after root canal treatment and retreatment – a retrospective case-control study.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of unintentional AH Plus ® sealer extrusion on the outcome of nonsurgical root canal treatment and retreatment in teeth with apical periodontitis (AP) compared to teeth with AP and no sealer extrusion at the 1-year follow-up. Methods: In a retrospective case-control study conducted from September 2016 to September 2021, te eth presenting clinical and radiographic signs of AP prior to treatment were included. The study comprised two groups: AH Plus® sealer extrusion (n=60): initial root canal treatment or nonsurgical retreatment with unintentional apical extrusion of AH Plus® se...

Diabetes mellitus increases the risk of apical periodontitis in endodontically-treated teeth: a meta-analysis from 15 studies
At present, the incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is gradually increasing globally. In clinical practice, many diabetic patients with apical periodontitis (AP) have poor and slow healing of periapical lesions. However, the potential relationship between the two is still unclear and controversial. The consensus is that DM can be deemed a risk factor for AP in endodontically-treated teeth. Therefore, we pooled existing studies and carried out a meta-analysis to explore the potential association between the two. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)
