Current Management of Dens Evaginatus Teeth based on Pulpal Diagnosis
Dens evaginatus (DE) is a dental anomaly with a supernumerary tubercle projection that typically contains dentin and pulp tissue. However, the tubercle projection can fracture, exposing the dentin and potentially the dental pulp, which induces pulpal diseases. Managing DE should be primarily based on the clinical diagnosis of the pulp. The prophylactic management of the tubercle of DE teeth with a normal pulp should be performed as early as possible by the prep-and-fill technique or the reinforcement technique to preserve tooth vitality and continued root development, with the former reported to be superior compared with t...

Genome-wide association study identifies novel risk loci for apical periodontitis
Apical periodontitis (AP) is a common consequence of root canal infection leading to periapical bone resorption. Microbial and host genetic factors, and their interactions, have been shown to play a role in AP development and progression. Variations in a few genes have been reported in association with AP, however, the lack of genome-wide studies has hindered progress in understanding the mechanisms involved in AP. Here, we report the first genome-wide association study of AP in a large and well-characterized population. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Process-Related Factors are as Important as Outcomes for Patients Undergoing Nonsurgical Root Canal Treatment, Nonsurgical Root Canal Retreatment, and Endodontic Microsurgery
There is considerable variation in the reporting of treatment outcomes in endodontics. Patient-centered outcomes are often inadequately reported in endodontic outcome studies. This paper explores patients ’ expectations and reported outcomes in nonsurgical root canal treatment (NS-RCT), nonsurgical root canal retreatment (NS-ReTx), and endodontic microsurgery (EMS). Enhancement of Antimicrobial Effect of Endodontic Sealers Using Nanoparticles: A Systematic Review
The elimination of biofilms during root canal therapy continues to pose a challenge due to complex anatomies and un-instrumented portions of the root canal system. The incorporation of nanoparticles in endodontic sealers is an area of interest for potentially enhancing antimicrobial activity and improving treatment outcomes. This systematic review evaluated the antimicrobial effects of various nanoparticles in endodontic sealers. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Management of apico-marginal defects with endodontic microsurgery and guided tissue regeneration: a report of thirteen cases
The loss of periodontal tissue support and vertical buccal bone loss in apico-marginal defects can often be mistaken for features indicative of vertical root fractures and this study reports thirteen cases with persistent symptomatic apical periodontitis, apico-marginal defects, and large periapical lesions that were managed with endodontic microsurgery in conjunction with bone grafts and barrier placements with a follow-up period of up to 9 years. At the recall sessions, all cases were asymptomatic with radiographical success with only two cases exhibiting residual apical radiolucency, but with evident reduction in the le...

Metformin reduces bone resorption in apical periodontitis through regulation of osteoblast and osteoclast differentiation
We have previously demonstrated that auxiliary metformin therapy promotes healing of apical periodontitis. Here we aimed to investigate the effects of metformin on osteoblast differentiation and osteoclast formation in cultured cells and rat apical periodontitis. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Augmented Reality and 3-dimensional Dynamic Navigation System Integration for Osteotomy and Root-end Resection
This study investigates the feasibility of integrating an augmented reality head-mounted device (AR) into a 3-dimensional dynamic navigation system (3D-DNS) for osteotomy and root-end resection (RER). It compares the accuracy and efficiency of AR + 3D-DNS to 3D-DNS for osteotomy and RER. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Could low-dose cone-beam ct be used for endodontic intraoperative diagnosis?
Cone-beam CT (CBCT) allows three-dimensional evaluation and has high diagnostic accuracy of endodontic conditions. Considering that the most indicated protocol for endodontics should have smaller field-of-view and higher spatial resolution, a higher radiation dose may be associated. Thus, this study evaluated the accuracy of an optimized CBCT protocol for the detection of intraoperative endodontic complications. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)
