Prehospital chest tube placement: Which factors are associated with feeling confident to perform the procedure?
CONCLUSION: Prehospital chest tube placement is rare, but potentially lifesaving. An adequately high level of subjective confidence in the placement of chest tubes is a key condition for prehospital emergency doctors. Inhospital clinical routine and attendance at simulation courses are significantly associated with high levels of confidence. Our data indicate that working only in prehospital emergency settings without further clinical routine or medical specialization is not sufficient for achieving and ensuring subjective confidence in chest tube placement.PMID:38658233 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.009 (Source: Zeitschrif...

Reasons for non-participation in a patient survey in the context of prehospital emergency medical care by community emergency paramedics - A retrospective observational study
DISCUSSION: The results show that more than half of the patients were unable to take part in a written survey for various reasons, even though there was no need for urgent care. This could be due to a high demand for care and the complex consent procedure. In addition, further resources are required to provide needs-based care for these patients in order to relieve the burden on emergency medical care. Over half of the patients were unable to take part in a written survey for various reasons. Further research is needed to determine what consent procedures are appropriate to facilitate patients' study participation.PMID:386...

Latent safety threats in a pediatric emergency department: Using in situ simulation to test a new trauma room concept
DISCUSSION: With the help of this study, it could be shown that the implementation of in situ simulation before the commissioning of new clinical premises and the introduction of new processes can contribute to the detection of latent safety threats in an interdisciplinary German pediatric emergency department.PMID:38644149 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.005 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

Contextual factors and mechanisms in the implementation of Value Stream Mapping in breast cancer centres - A multiple case study
CONCLUSIONS: These results confirm the important role of leadership in implementation projects. Leadership support enabled the mechanisms found. The used combination of theoretical approaches from management research and implementation science determined the interpretation and should be applied more often in implementation science.PMID:38644150 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.006 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

Development of an indicator set for the evaluation of the quality of routine ambulatory health care for common disorders in children and adolescents
CONCLUSION: The consented QI set is currently being tested and can subsequently be used (possibly modified) to measure the quality of routine outpatient care for children and adolescents in Germany, in order to indicate the status quo and potential areas for improvement in outpatient care.PMID:38631959 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.002 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

Evaluation of the public health measures introduced during the coronavirus pandemic: Evidence-based risk communication must be a central topic
Z Evid Fortbild Qual Gesundhwes. 2024 Apr 15:S1865-9217(24)00052-7. doi: 10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEvidence-based and comprehensible health information is a key element of evidence-based medicine and public health. The goal is informed decision-making based on realistic estimations of health risks and accurate expectations about benefits and harms of interventions. In Germany, standards of evidence-based risk information were poorly followed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Frequently, public information was biased, fragmentary and misleading. Pandemic-related threat scenarios induced emotional...

Underfunding of German university-based high-performance medicine exemplified by the treatment of varices in cirrhosis
This study examines whether university-based high-performance medicine is efficient and cost-covering within the framework of the G-DRG system. We demonstrate a dramatic underfunding of the management of varicose veins in cirrhosis in our university center. It is therefore generally questionable whether and to what extent an adequate care for this patient collective is reflected in the G-DRG system.PMID:38616470 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.003 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

How can the potential of internet- and mobile-based interventions be used in the treatment of depression? Findings from a qualitative survey among German psychotherapists
CONCLUSION: The barriers identified are mainly due to insufficient information and communication channels within the healthcare market. They provide helpful guidance for understanding how the increased implementation of IMIs into the care process in the treatment of depression can succeed.PMID:38604921 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.001 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)
