Momentum for the alternate HIV/AIDS explanation started in 1987 when Dr. Peter Duesberg, a professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California at Berkeley and initial demonstrator that the influenza virus has a segmented genome, published a paper claiming that HIV cannot be the cause of AIDS. Four years later, a number of scientists formed “The Group for the Scientific Reappraisal of the HIV/AIDS Hypothesis” which later established itself as an official non-profit organization. Within another four years, 32 scientists with advanced medical degrees published a statement in Science asking for the rec...

It's probably depression, mixed in with apprehension, but I still cannot find the words to write whenever I sit at the keyboard. The ideas flow freely when I'm up and about, but as soon as I begin to write, it's like, "what's the use, why bother."Another factor is that I'm one of the fully awake who see clearly that we are heading for a bottomless abyss, and not sure if I will survive what's to come. I wish I had the unshakable faith that I have seen in some Christians, and maybe I'm just kidding myself that I am a Christian as I don't dedicate every waking hour to worship, not can I recite from memory chapter and verse fr...

Ouch.
Gwenn and I can't stop watching. The guys get little tool badges when they pass tests and make the inevitable cut at the inevitable "ceremony" at the end of each show. Formulaic? Sure, but it's must-see TV... speaking of tools, did you hear about the senator from Colorado, Dave Schultheis?

To feel at one with those suffering through hard economic times, I thought I’d do my bit to feel at least little of the pain. So I bought a Chihuahua puppy who’s new job would be to cost me money far beyond the purchase price. That was in the early fall, I was thinking ahead, and preparing for Obama’s message.
In addition my dental was quoted to me at a cost of a maximum of 2350 dollars.

The Associated Press ran a story yesterday about a report on the tainted blood scandal in Britain, which you can read here.

"Long after alarms had been founded about the risks of obtaining paid-for blood donations from communities with an increased incidence of relevant infections, such as prison inmates, this practice continued. It ...

At first this Newark airport jerker moment was a bit stealth for my detecting abilities.

I have a new column in the latest issue of Poz Magazine, you can read it here: "Week On, Week Off". It's about the ups and one big down of my last seven years on my Structured Treatment Interruption.
Hope you enjoy reading it- I am especially proud of all of the Karate Kid references and am honored to be included in an issue that focuses on what we as positoids can do to improve our health.
Positively Yours,

More than twenty-five million people have died from AIDS since it was first recognized in 1981, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in history. It is undeniable however, that sub-Saharan Africa is the hardest hit and most affected area in the world. Of the global 2.9 million AIDS related deaths in 2007, 72% occurred in this area. AIDS has devastated the social and economic framework of societies in sub-Saharan Africa by mostly infecting people in the age group of 15-49, while 63% of the 40 million people living with HIV/AIDS today live in Sub-Saharan Africa. What is also startling is that, of the 2.9 million pe...

Bugs in the Bedroom

Tomorrow Gwenn and I are heading out again, only this time we are going to be doing an HIV education program called "Bugs in the Bedroom".
It differs from "A Boy, A Girl, A Virus" in that it also focuses on general STIs and involves a lot of props and role playing with students. The program is livelier, but it also has a chaos element that is both exhilarating and terrifying. Telling our personal story is easy- trying to fit a condom onto a 12-inch fake penis, called "The Czar", is not.
You should see airport security's face when we go through screening: someone always nudges a co-worker, as if to say, "Get a look at thi...

The HIV Vaccine research community was excited to learn of Dr. Bruce Walker’s recent grant of 100 million dollars from Cambridge high tech software developer Philip Ragon and his wife Susan to fund the Ragon Institute. Such a generous and committed donation – 10 million dollars per year for 10 years– will allow Dr. Walker and his collaborators at MGH, MIT, and Harvard to do the basic research needed to advance the knowledge needed for the development of a safe and effective vaccine against HIV infection. This initiative and similar collaborations around the world are answering basic immunological...

One day until I get to New York, I can’t wait. Now I’m telling you this string of character building bad luck better f.ing end, because I’m telling you right now I don’t want any wet luggage, or emergency landings in Buffalo!
The last time I was there, I went just off the heals of a six-week working trip (my hooker with a passport days) in Europe. I was bagged. I think going to the leather party in North Amsterdam and doing copious amounts of drugs kind of did me in.
My relationship wasn’t doing too well (no kidding, whose would within that context).
When I came home I saw that the traditional welcoming was not t...

This arrived in my email mailbox yesterday. I thought it was a bit funny.
Dear Brian Finch,
Good news! Hilda’s claim for [add in autotomic robot voice filling in the form letter blank] Vomiting [end voice] has been approved for $73.49 and your cheque is on its way, including a detailed summary of your claim approval.
So now I know that a 140 dollar claim is going to give me 73 of it back. Better than nothing I suppose, and I do have to make a claim after the weekend, and another for her dental that will be done during spaying.
It’s 40 dollars a month, and for some reason, I feel as if I’m going to need it...

I gotta mention that I got something wrong in a previous blog. It was Troy, Michigan that banned the mall condom display, not Troy, New York.
It has been corrected, my apologies to Troy, New York!
Hope everyone is having a great President's Day. I still find myself smiling goofily in regard to Saturday night's show. If you want to see more, check out Chad Van Pelt's Flickr page. He always beats TMZ to the punch.
OK, it's off to find an Abraham Lincoln costume to spice things up here on President's Day. Wish me luck.

In this week’s episode of My Life on the AIDS-Celebrity D-list, or for short simply put, The Acid Reflux Reality Show, I have a definite doozy of a challenge to take on this week.
The test: Heading out to New York City to watch Kathy Griffin, with an infection that requires root canal surgery, while still maintaining my consistent ability to pull off HIV effortlessly and glamorously.
Our newly created “Family Day,” our governments pandering to the middle-class Christian families of Ontario, has meant trying to move forward on the surgery will be all but next to do before I head out. I might be able to get to my doc...

I haven't been doing much other than reading more, plus watching to a lot more lectures and sermons online. As I was saying to a Christian pen pal last night over the phone, "we should enjoy and be thankful for the Internet while we still have it", which for an "Amen" from her end.The only other thing Ive been up to other than implementing my personal austerity program is becoming more active in the little Evangelical church I've been attending. True Christianity has gotten a bum rap from the glaring excesses and snake oil put forth by the big televangelists. I have been fortunate to have met groups of "real" Christians, w...

Today while doing the dishes, I looked over at the bottle of lube laying on my counter top stuck in the corner between the wall and the fridge. The only thing I could think was “God is this is a sad state of affairs, there is my bottle lube, jammed into this corner, all but forgotten about…….this is what my sex life has been reduced to ¬¬– a three second glance to remind me that once I had one as I wash up my dirty dishes.”
Over the last couple of days my mood has kind of sucked. The amount of money I was having to spend just kept adding up. While I was yet again trying to work out what ever this computer...
