It's not usually a manufactured holiday I choose to indulge in, but I have to say that this year's Valentine's Day was highly enjoyable. Perhaps that's because it wasn't spent alone, and there were two events that could have been, well, lonely. And they weren't.
The first being the "Boy, Girl, Virus" program that Gwenn and I did at Hiram College in Ohio.
That's Gwenn before the program, smiling kindly for the camera.
This is at the end of the program... can you find me? I'm thinking of doing a "Where's Waldo?" picture at all future talks, though I'll hide better next time. What's cool is that there were about 60 stude...

This week ended just the same as it began, expensive and unproductive.
On Monday my Hildy went to the vet to get spayed at a price tag (I thought – 300 to 400) but instead it all added up to over 7 hundred with some other things that have to be done. In the end the spaying never happened because there was not the right sized tube for the gas to keep her out.
Wednesday, I think, I woke up and it had felt as if I had done crystal the night before. I called the dentist to see if this was a case of severe grinding, or if there was something up with a tooth.
As it turns out, something was up with the tooth. I was sent back to...

This subject may, or not pertain to any person afflicted with HIV/ AIDS or even PML, but it is something I have to deal with for now. I never used to concern myself with issues about the disabled, but then, PML. I have been driving for one year and seven months. I am so excited to be driving again. It remains a thrill for me, but has become routine for me now at times and presents me with a unique view of life, so I notice things now like parking, curbs, doors, bathrooms, etc. Just be happy if you ca...

In view of the fact that people in Nata Village do not attend kgotla meetings in large numbers. Nata Clinic staff decided to reach different village wards and explain the effects of Cholera and HIV/AIDS.
Miss Shathani Kenneth and Geoginah Bojosi addressed people on the Cholera symptoms and what should be done. They also talked about prevention. People should always wash hands after using the toilet and always boil water from the river.
Peter Martinez talked about the HIV/AIDS virus. How it is contracted and how people can prevent being infected ( Precautions). He...

I made a big mistake. Turns out the Lauretta Braden email was a scam. Not only am I not rich, but I have many valuable relationships to rebuild.
Fortunately, I've already won back one loved one: my mother-in-law, who has welcomed me back into the family with open arms. But it was easier to charm her, since I was able to do so in person. See, Gwenn and I are speaking at Hiram College tonight, which is conveniently located near Cleveland where Bev (Gwenn's mom) lives. We'll see how everyone back home responds to my brush with riches on Saturday, when I play a Valentines show with Bella Morte.
I'm looking forward to speaking...

I feel as if I have just come off a couple day crystal binge. For quite some time my dentists have been telling I grind my teeth. The first time they suggested it, I didn’t believe it.
Over time however, I noticed at that it was quite natural for me to be clenching my teeth.
“God” I thought, and not literally, “Do I ever maintain a lot of stress in my jaw.”
“Is that the carpel tunnel syndrome of too much cock sucking?”
The dentist, on that visit, told me I had needed a night guard; something else I had been avoiding getting.
Today however, I woke up and I swear I was doing a whack of meth last night. Not only...

This study not only shows the inefficacy of the travel ban, but shows the harm presented to HIV positive individuals who desire to visit the United States. The study showed that patients on anti-retroviral therapy (212 patients) were more likely to go off their medication, increasing their chances of developing drug-resistant HIV strains or developing AIDS. The study concluded that people do so “with insufficient planning and advice.”Only about a dozen countries around the world maintain a travel ban on people living with HIV. These countries are: Iraq, China, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan, Qatar, Brunei, Oman, Moldova, R...

This weekend the Black AIDS Institute issued its yearly report on the state of AIDS in Black America: Making Change Real.
The report addresses both the good and bad elements of this year’s landscape: while the new administration and Congress are supportive of HIV/AIDS issues, the CDC’s announcement of a 40% higher new-infection rate than previously thought, and the ongoing racial disparity in HIV infection rates are sobering facts. The report includes in-depth statistics on HIV infection rates and race, and positive steps taken by the Black community in the past year to fight the disease.

My poor little Hildy did not get spayed today. They were unable to find a tube to the gas to keep them out that was the right size for her. One was too big, and the other was too small. The final result was that they could not safely put her out in a way where she wouldn’t have every person’s nightmare of waking up during surgery happen.
So, my wallet is safe for one more week longer.

I said I could never own a car because I couldn’t afford one, or a condo/house.
Little didn’t know I was purchasing a smaller version of the equivalent of one of the above when I made my pilgrimage to Quebec that this was exactly what I was getting with my little Hildy.
To start with she cost a bloody fortune, not to mention the investment of time, energy, and cost of driving 600 kms with someone who is even worse with direction the me, AND we had no map.
That was then, and this is now, and I love her to death. I had to spend a few bucks on her shots and initial exam.
Today she is being spayed, pretty routine I thought...

There is this blond chick on a red eye to LA. SHortly after take off, she heard the announcement that everyone was free to walk around.
She unbuckled herself and got up. She looked around and then went into the first class.
A few moments later a flight attendant went over and said ‘’ You weren’t sitting her on take off, I am afraid I am going to have to ask you to return to your seat in economy.’...

Should there be a "Black" AIDS Day in addition to the December 1st observation of World AIDS Day? Hell, yes. You can never have too many AIDS Days as far as I'm concerned, and with February being Black History Month, I'm all for setting aside one day to insure that this issue- and it's devastation in the black community- becomes, well, history itself.

Here is the latest installment of the Hildy Cam. She was unhappy because I wouldn’t take her off the bed where she was happy for the last half hour. At my desk, I grabbed my camera and just started shooting. I love it when she squeals and Hildy works it like a charm, a true Diva.
It’s Friday night and I’m about to have dinner and watch a dark-comedy called “Just Buried” instead of “Just Married.” I’m not sure why, but I can never just watch normal movies.

February 7, 2009 will commemorate the ninth annual National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. In the year that has passed since last February 7th, what have we learned? What has changed? Are we any closer to defeating the “Black Plague” of our times?
Well, we have learned that the number of new infections per year in the U. S. was 40% higher than we previously were told. We know that nearly half of those new infections are Black Americans, and more than half of those infections are in gay or bisexual Black men. What has changed? Well as the national HIV epidemic has progressively become a disease of color, young Black gay ...

I highly recommend reading the CHAMP’s February “HHS Watch” special issue, which is devoted to the highly politicized debate over the inclusion of HIV/STD funding in the national economic stimulus bill.
The titles of the articles put the issue right out there:
• “The View from Under the Bus: HIV and STD Funding Becomes Lightning Rod for Stimulus Foes,” by Julie Davids of CHAMP (Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project)
• “Shovel-Ready, But Shoved Aside? HIV Prevention is Real Work,” by David Ernesto Munar of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago
