Dolls: Redux.  I’ve been overdosing on Celebrex It’s a long story, but I had one on Celexa, an antidepressant as my olds ones were not doing it for my anymore. After awhile I was feeling that I was getting tired a lot, however, I also had been dealing with the effects of a cold over a month. Tired, and still depressed, I went back to talk about the meds. We decided up to twice as much. I was convinced it was not feeling well that was doing it. My doc did give me a script for Cipralex, essentially the same drug, but less side effects, to switch to if I felt I needed to over the course of the holidays. Over time, I just...

Once again Synthetic Division is teaming up with Bella Morte. They said it would never happen. They said the egos were too big for Charlottesville to handle... they were right. But, for the fans, we have all agreed to share the stage again. In the spirit of love we are playing a special late-night, acoustic Valentine's show at Gravity Lounge here in Charlottesville. Last time I played there, Synthetic Division was fully loaded with dance goodness. But this time the set is going to be stripped down a little bit- not full-on acoustic like Bella Morte- for us, "acoustic" means a few less "bleeps" and "bloops". And replacing...

I have decided to combine the aspects of an update with those of my BLOG which would give more insight as to why I have been so emotionally volatile lately and seemed so distant. I want family and friends to know why I have been so difficult since mid-October. I have earnestly begun to dig myself out of whatever doldrums I created for myself. A new attitude, right? I am hoping this sample of my writing tells my friends and family about why I should be an author and why I have worked so hard on my book. As of today (2/4/09) – my T-cells were 634 and viral load remains undetectable. I should have gone last week, but it ...

So guess whose lab results come up on my "My Pet Virus" Google Alert? None other than Steve Schalchlin, the Ebert to my Roper. Here's what he posted on Monday, in no way colluding with me... "Also went to see the doc... My highest t-cell count to date: 525. And a great percentage: 21%. So, I don't know that I'd say my immune system is strengthening since these numbers go up and down all the time, but it's clear that my health is holding its own." Too cool, even in t-cells Steve shows me who the boss is, besting my latest lab results by two measly t-cells! Well, he may have two more, but mine are wittier as a whole. Since...

I hate it when I take the wrong dolls! One definite tell-tale signs of being a d-list celebrity is when you mix your prescribed mood altering medications. For sure a-listers don’t accidently take their Lithium in the morning instead of the evening, and completely miss their anti-depressant in the morning. When do you ever hear of that? Patty Duke takes Lithium, do I need to say anymore. She probably f.s up the timing of the doses as well. Of course, this is what I did today. F. man I hate that. This is what I get for buying a pill box where the dark coloured side for AM, and the light coloured is inverted from the old on...

If you haven’t already read this item on the Huffington Post, I highly recommend you review it when you have a few minutes: Let’s Talk About Jobs. It’s a posting called “Let’s Talk about Jobs” by Johnathon Briggs, the Director of Communications at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.  I think he does a great job pointing out how some legislators are politicizing the proposal to include in the economic stimulus bill $400 million for HIV and STD screening and prevention – claiming that it has no place in a bill that is supposed to create jobs. Briggs makes a great case for how these prevention dolla...

The viral load is undetectable, and the CD4 (t-cell) count is 523... the third highest I've had recorded since the 1980's! Sweet! For those who know about my week on/week off treatment strategy, it's important to note that the labs were drawn after being two days into a week on the drugs. Huh? I take my HIV meds for seven days, then don't take them for seven days and repeat that cycle. In the March issue of Poz- out next month- there will be a c...

One thing I’ve realized is that life is a little like Paris Hilton or Britney Spears. Once you step out a limo legs wide open wearing a dress with no panties, life just is never the same again. The Medicaid Family Planning State Option was dropped from the stimulus package after a public outcry from House Minority Leader, John Boehner (pronounced "BAY-ner"). This would have either: a) provided health care coverage for 2.3 million women while generating savings for states and the federal government or b) funded the pro-abortion business. That's depending on whether you side with Planned Parenthood or John Boehner. My thinking is that contraceptives and condoms are secretly viewed as abortions by many lawmakers. As a sex educator, I support the Medicaid Family Planning State Option as part of the stimulus package...

As my ADD mind has tumbled completely into the abyss through Twitter.com, I’m resurfacing with a little tid-bit that I thought was hillarious. I’m as daft as can be as I haven’t watched the show Mad Men. So when I came across a message from Betty Draper. I had no idea, but I loved the blog and the miss manners stuff. The message I got was to vote for her for the Twitter “Shorty Award” and I did. And then, I got a message from Bad Betty Drapper with the background with Betty holding a gun. The split personalities in itself was hilarious. But I had to know, there was obviously something more to ...

Due to the difficult financial times we face, the Department of Public Health has suffered tremendous cuts to its budget and is expecting more in the next few weeks.  Public Health programs prevent illness and disease and serve our most vulnerable residents, including people with HIV/AIDS, children, elders and those who are low-income.   A coalition of Public Health programs called United We Stand for Public Health is holding a press conference this Thursday, Jan 22nd, at 1pm, at the State House to urge the Commonwealth to protect public health.  Please join us as we stand up for Public Health and protect these progr...

I’ve seen a few episodes of this show on television. This has got to be the explicit sex show I’ve ever seen. So much so that I wouldn’t be surprised it’s not banned in all the Conservative ridings in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. On this episode they tackled the subject of mixing drugs and sex. They recounted this little story: Some have gone to extreme measures to improve their sexual kick. In 1987, a man injected cocaine into his penis before having sex with his girlfriend. His erection didn’t subside for three days and nine days later gangrene began to set in, and he lost his legs, nine fingers and his...

. It’s something every person living with HIV endures. From the moment of diagnosis onward, it’s something that shadows the soul. Some losses are static; loved ones who will never again say I love you. Some are dynamic; sickness becomes health becomes sickness again. Some losses are sudden, others can be seen coming. One is like falling off a cliff, the other, like watching a slow-motion train-wreck. Loss is a gut-wrenching business. Loss eviscerates. Loss is emptiness. Cast adrift. Numb. And chilled to the bone.
