It's Halloween! One of my favorite times of the year! That's why I'm turning off my brain, and turning the blog over- for the very first time-, to a special guest: Frankenstein...
But, before I do so, I want to post a couple of funny videos. Here are some not-so-scary outtakes from the Dark Shadows TV series, which, upon first glance, should have been called "The Fly".
Alright, have fun tonight and eat lots of candy. I am off to scare children in my Frankenstein costume- that's how I get my free candy.
Positively Yours,

This weekend exists out of time and space for me. Whatever I am going through, Halloween is a great opportunity to step outside of myself and be someone else. In pagan ritual, this was meant to confuse the dead.
Sometimes I think I do this for the same reasons, today.
Just finished carving my Jack O'Lantern out of a pumpkin Adam brought from the zoo. Adam and i were going to hang out tonight, while I finished my Captain Kirk costume (need to cut the boots and dye the strings on the sweats). But he was tired, and bummed. I was sorta hoping to be a cheerleader of sorts tonight, give him some distraction (food and TV) that ...

Somebody recently asked me what I was looking for in a lover. “Wow!” I thought to myself. I never really considered forming a list whether in my mind or on paper, but it has made me think about it a lot the past few days. What DO I want in a lover?
Other than the obvious – he must be sexually compatible to me first of all.
Then temper that sexuality with romance, passion and desire. Monogamy is a must because I would only hope we complete each other and we would only need each other. I know that may sound so provincial to some, but all those damned romantic books and movies end with a “Happily ever after” and I...

CALIFORNIA PROPOSITIONS….This is a special post for California readers. The rest of you may safely go about your Sunday business normally.
This year we have 12 initiatives on the California ballot. As longtime readers know, my default position is to very strongly oppose all initiatives. My reasons are here, but the nickel version is that (a) most initiatives these days are funded by corporate interests, not the grassroots, and corporate interests don’t really need yet another avenue to work their will on the public, (b) generally speaking, laws should be laws, not constitutional amendments or initiative statute...

It's one week until our next president is elected. All the polls indicate that Obama is in the lead, and that Virginia is going to be a key state. They say if Virginia is called early, Obama likely has won. If it trails off into the night, I say that Joe the Positoid will be Joe Six Pack times two.
Or no, wait, if I vote for Obama I'm not a "real Virginian". And I probably would be considered Joe Chardonnay, not Joe Six-Pack. Either way, if Obama tanks, I'm getting tanked. If I have to resort to huffing to get through the night, then so be it.

In late 2002, as President George W. Bush began building his case for preemptive war in Iraq, a remarkable thing happened. Opposition to war with Iraq has come from a wide spectrum of the churches - Roman Catholic, Protestant denominations, Evangelical, Pentecostal, black churches, Orthodox. All of the stateme...

No matter how corrupt, greedy, and heartless our government, our corporations, our media, and our religious and charitable institutions may become, the music will still be wonderful.
If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:
THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED
FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD
WAS MUSIC
Now, during our catastrophically idiotic war in Vietnam, the music kept getting better and better and better. We lost that war, by the way. Order couldn’t be restored in Indochina until the people kicked us out.

A story that is getting national headlines right now involves a high school in St. Louis, where up to 50 students are being tested for HIV , after being exposed to the virus.
The details are fuzzy- someone tested positive and informed authorities that quite a few people were in danger of also being positive. The article skirts around how these people were exposed- it mentions all the risk factors, including sexual contact, unsafe piercing and tattoo'ing- but I'm guessing it was probably unsafe sex.

it is my joy to unofficially inform you that SCHAC has come out in opposition to prop 8; we have vowed to say no ...

Last night I was at an Award night for the organization that gets my prize for the longest name and acronym in the HIV world, CWGHER (pronounced CWIGER), the Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation.
God that wears me out even typing it. The evening for the first night where they gave out their award for excellence, and the recipient was Greg Robinson, someone who’s been working hard for a long time as an advocate, researcher and doctor.
“Damn” I said to myself many a time when I was there, “Why didn’t I bring my camera???”
I did pose for one shot with Suhana Meharchand, a journalist from CBC who was ho...

Nata Prtimary School has no problem accommodating students in their facility. Because of the growing population in Nata, more young children are registering for Primary School. Teachers make sure that no child is left behind by creating classes outside the classrooms. Education is very important to all the children of Nata.

Nata Primary School has a unique boys and girls volleyball team. This weekend they will compete with nineteen other schools from around the district. Nata Primary School took first place last year in their division. The sixteen person team has been practicing very hard every day after school. Nata is the team to beat on this tournament. if i embedded these all on the same post, they’d all go off at the same time, doing a video impression of the leaning tower of babel. and that would be the last time i ate lunch in this town.
i like eating lunch in this town.
so here is a suite of 8 video posts supporting “no on 8” that you can share with your friends and acquaintances, and jump back and forth between. if you open everything on separate tabs on your browser, you’ll get the babel thing.
but then maybe you like the babel thing.

Dear Neighbors:
Halloween is nearly upon us and we must all make our preparations to vote in the incredibly important election this November 4th. Absentee Ballots will be sent to you if you are a PAV (Permanent Absentee Voter) or if you submitt an application prior to October 28th. The ballot must be received by the LA County election office by November 4th at 5 pm. Applications for an Absentee Ballots can be found here.
Recent polls show that if the election were held today, Proposition 8 would pass by a 6-point margin, despite being down in the polls just weeks ago. This dramatic swing is credited to a b...

Erin Weed arrived, and she didn't kick my butt. In fact, we had a great time catching up, and realized it's been over a year since we hung out in person.
I didn't even have to pull out my fake letter from my hematologist. Or the fake emails from readers concerned for my well-being, hoping against hope that I wasn't going to be beaten to a pulp... so I could live to blog again. So what saved me?
A wedding anniversary. Today is Gwenn and I's four year wedding anniversary.
Positively for using anniversaries to your advantage, Positively Against Prop 8.

I'm not doing well medically at all, and prefer not to say much. Still in a state of total overload. I have been tossed back and forth between specialists, the last hope meeting with a neurosurgeon who basically said, "you have been a total mystery to us and we think it's a neurological problem that we can't locate, sorry but that's all I have for you. They have tossed around all sorts of equally unpleasant theories, HIV wasting, latent activated polio, MS, ALS, muscular dystrophy, even mad cow disease was considered, but brain MRI and EEG came back clean. but for almost 15 years my leg muscles have been wasting to the poin...

Two nights ago, while flipping around the channels, I came across an old (Season 3) episode of Seinfeld in which Kramer gives George some free, promotional condoms he was given. George uses them and has a scare with a new girlfriend because her period is late and they think she might be pregnant (she wasn't). I remembered seeing the show when it first aired and being amazed that in 1992, on prime time cable, on a hit TV show, people were talking openly about condoms. And it made me wonder: Where are the condoms on TV today? Has anyone seen one brandished recently?
Not only are we missing educational and prevention opport...

. . . One size [marriage] does fit all for heterosexuals. Full faith and credit assures that they’re just as married in Massachusetts as they are in Mississippi.
Just let one state, any state, try and refuse to recognized a heterosexual marriage legally entered into in another state and see what happens. I guarantee that heterosexual couples would not have to put up with losing their legal rights, losing custody of their children, and losing their health benefits just by moving to another state. Trust me.
