This Is The Stuff That Drives Me Crazy!
Sometimes little things keep happening and they upset me at the time, but I get over each one and move on until I step back and realize - hey, why are all these things happening to me all of a sudden? Nothing catastrophic, but is there something I'm doing? I got into a car accident about two weeks ago. It was totally my fault. I was in stop and go traffic on the freeway and was texting, looking down as I was driving, and hit the car in front of me. I was very upset about it, crying, but my husband was so nice about it, the other driver was so nice about it, the insurance company was so nice ab...

Should we trust GlaxoSmithKline – and Andrew Witty…?
Trust GlaxoSmithKline?
Trust GSK? – you must be mad.
Sarah Boseley in The Guardian writes:
“The British drugs company GlaxoSmithKline is to open up the detailed data from its clinical trials to the scrutiny of scientists in a bid to help the discovery of new medicines and end the suspicions of critics that it has secrets to hide.
In a speech today [11 Oct] to the Wellcome Trust in London, the chief executive, Andrew Witty, will say openness to the public and active collaboration with scientists and firms outside GSK are essential to finding new drugs to treat the diseases plaguing the world, from novel antibiot...

How Often I Miss the Memos of Life
Sunday - Entry 8:I was going to write about going to the supermarket the other day and ONCE AGAIN discovering that I had forgotten to bring my wallet only after ringing up a hundred or so dollars of groceries, but that wasn't nearly as fresh in my mind as driving to church this morning and discovering nobody was there. The Elf was wiped out from her competition the day before, and the Goblin had taken an eternal shower, so the Leprechaun and I left both of them behind and rushed off to church. It was a bit past ten, so we were late for Sunday School, and the Leprechaun was anxious to see her friends. We drove the few miles...

A Gentle Rain Begins To Fall…
I opened the front door after putting on Maggie’s leash, and a steady, soft rain greeted me and the Mag-dawg as it gently fell steadily outside. Maggie knew then and there that our walk was not about to happen. I took off her leash, and she went back to bed with a pout. Also, today is grocery day and I am running out of treats to give Maggie. I need something she can’t resist to put her antibiotic into it. We ended up eating scrambled egg sandwiches this morning with almost stale bread—not one of the finer culinary moments in my life. Maggie thought it was delicious and wanted what was left of mine as well. I o...

Diamond Shoals…
Today, I haven’t felt this good in many years. It is like walking the beach and finding the perfect hewed and cut diamond amidst the sand. I just wanted share that with you all. My relationship with my parents has finally normalized to the extent it ever will be. My sweetheart, Maggie, gets happier and healthier as each day passes. I haven’t had any alcohol in three years now I think. Christmas day should be my sobriety date. My medications seem to be at the correct levels as to help me and not hinder me. The Clonopin helps the extremely harsh anxiety that occurs within me.

On Beautiful Diamond Shoals…
Today, I haven’t felt this good in many years. It is like walking the beach and finding the perfectly hewed and cut diamond amidst the sand. I just wanted share that with you all. Too many times it is easier to dwell on the bad and not the good things in life. I hope today is not a harbinger of tough times ahead. I have my own house and cars fully paid for. My relationship with my parents has finally normalized to the extent it ever will be. My sweetheart, Maggie gets happier and healthier as each day passes. I haven’t had any alcohol in three years now I think. Christmas day should be my sobrie...

Regarding Disability: No Easy Answers
NAMI’s website reports that “bipolar is the most expensive mental health care diagnosis,” both for patients and their health insurance plans. Citing various research studies, NAMI notes that: Bipolar is the sixth leading cause of disability worldwide, that the lifetime cost per person ranges from $12,000 (for a single manic episode) to $625,000 (for nonresponsive and chronic conditions), and that indirect costs such as lost...

Mental Health Charities must oppose #IDS discriminatory ‘food stamps scheme’. #dehumanising #ukmh #disability
Should Ian Duncan Smith get away with this proposal he will not reduce drug and alcohol dependence on any level. Le’s face it if someone has an addiction to an illegal substance they’ll merely trade/sell their food to enable their habit.
What this proposal will do is further stigmatise the mentally ill. It’s embarrassing derogatory dehumanising and discriminatory, and does nothing at all to address the core issues behind alcohol and drug dependency.

Homesick
Why am I having such a hard time with this? I really don't understand, it's probably fear of the unknown, and waiting, but I'm really struggling with it. I have constant anxiety that just won't go away. Mark said he has anxiety too, but if he was feeling what I'm feeling, I think he would be talking about it a lot more and I would see him struggling with his inner fears.I heard the song "Homesick" by MercyMe on the radio on my way to school, and it made me cry. I listened to it just now, and it made me cry. I've heard it so many times before with no reaction. I'm not even sure why I rela...

To Live in a Glass House…
A few of you have emailed me lately. I will try my very, very hardest to catch up today. Don’t think I am personally ignoring you. I think my fear of intimacy with other people is what holds me back from using email. It is more of a mono y mono affair. I also fear that someone will say something so very ugly and it would be like stomping on my very sensitive heart— sending me reeling. I seem to live in a fragile glass house. Place your rocks in the basket by the front door please before you come inside.

Life's Little Adventures: The Bipolar Question of the Week
This is a simple tale of how I came to bake and decorate a birthday cake. It bears telling for the simple reason that it combines a number of key recovery ingredients. So here I was - with the birthday of the love of my life coming up. We had a number of things planned, but I wanted to make it really special. I would bake a cake, I decided. There was one catch - I didn’t know anything about baking cakes.
Not to worry. After all,...

I Think I Figured It Out
Mark told me what the relocation package to Chicago is today from his employer, and I fell apart. I've been feeling extremely anxious for awhile now which is one of the reasons I took my blog private. I thought maybe I couldn't put down what was bothering me because wasn't being honest enough with myself in fear of other people reading it. It's a process I use often to work through what is bothering me when I don't understand it.But it didn't work. I was still incredibly anxious, and was racking my brain as to why. I knew it had something to do with moving, but what? Over the last several...

Aggravation and Frustration is the Name of this Tortuous Game…
Sometimes things just don’t go your way when it comes to computers. You win some and you lose some. I’ve been looking for an updated bios (basic input and output system) for my computer all morning. Google is about useless as you have to sift through five to ten pages deep to find anything relevant that is not an advertisement. Bing is a much better search engine – often finding what you need on the first page. I finally found my latest bios on the Asus Asian support page. Now it needs a program call EZ-Bios Update (which I can’t find) to update the bios rom on my motherboard. I’ve jus...

“Are You Ready to Cut Some Grass?”
That is what Charlie just asked me over the phone this morning. There just went my super lazy Saturday. I owe Charlie much more than just this, though. “We’ll cut mine first, then we will do Mr. Ed’s, and finally yours,” Charlie said. “And then we will go get something to eat. It will be about time for Horsefly’s daily KFC chicken finger box.” “What about dad’s yard?” I asked Charlie very warily. “He's got a lawn service cutting his grass now,” Charlie replied. I secretly sighed with relief as dad’s yard can be an extreme bi@tch to cut. Especially the huge front yard with lots of inclines. ...

#Reading Uni launches free #iPhone app to help people with #depression
Uni launches free iPhone app to help people with depression:
Psychologists at the University of Reading have launched a free iPhone app to help people with depression get direct access to help – without needing to go to their GP.
Developed as part of a PhD research project, the app, called Mood Mate, is available for download now. It was launched on October 10, World Mental Health Day.
The free app will help people monitor their own mood and will help detect signs that they are becoming depressed or anxious. If the app finds a person could benefit from help, it will point them towards local treatment services, often ones...

Liza’s story in her own words..
“(A journalist asked me why I have to rummage in supermarket skips for food. Here’s my reply.)
I got sick. I have a long-term conditions (bipolar, ADHD) that had always been successfully kept stable/under control with medication. Was able to work very long hours, I thrived under pressure. I’d never had to take any time off work due to disability-related ill-health. Then 3 years ago I went through a period of intense stress, lost my job. It triggered a severe depression. Tried to work, I was really desperate to work, never been unemployed before. I got a part-time job ...

“Dear Ms Poulton,Thank you for your emails to Mr Miliband and my sincere apologies for the delay in replying. As you have highlighted, many disabled people and charities continue to express very serious concerns about the way that the WCA is operating. The Government need to undertake a fast and fundamental review of the test and Atos Healthcare also have questions to answer about the effectiveness of the current assessment process. It is wrong for people to have to worry about having their support taken away from them when, for example, they are battling against a disease like cancerIt is vitally important that the b...

Relo Info Today.
The relocation package to Chicago was approved, and Mark finds out today what his company is offering him. He is absolutely freaking out with worry. Not that it won't pay enough for us to move, but where to buy a house in Chicago, how we'll come up with the downpayment, etc. etc. He doesn't even KNOW anything yet, we haven't talked to a real estate agent, we don't know anything at all. Not even what they are going to do for us at his company - buy our house? Realtor fees and closing costs on a new house? Anything left over for a down payment on a new house? I mean he just doesn...

Helen Makes a House Call…
Someone knocked very loudly on my front door this afternoon. It startled me out of the daze I was experiencing. It was about 4pm so I thought we weren’t going to get Helen Friday. I was in my computer room listening to music, fully reclined, and was almost asleep. I also had all the shades and curtains drawn so as to make it very dark and cool. With great trepidation and despite all the social anxiety odds, I opened up the front door as Maggie went nuts barking extremely loudly and uncharacteristically viciously. You would think we were being invaded by the Mongol hordes or barbarians. “Put lit...

Down Your Gullet!
I woke up ravishingly hungry at 3am. Maggie was practically under my arm. “You hungry doll?” I asked Maggie who was laying next to me in the bed as I turned on my bedside lamp. My stomach was grumbling in protest. Maggie jumped off the bed knowing the word very well. Dog food is one thing, but Andrew prepared food is whole other thing indeed. Maggie and I both seem to love a traditional Southern breakfast. Hell, who am I kidding? Maggie will eat just about anything dead or alive. Maggie's food palette is just not very avant-garde or complicated. I turned the heating and cooling off when I went t...

Value in Depression
Depression sucks, make no mistake. I know this from years of experience. When I'm depressed I can't work, I can't exercise, I don't want to socialise. Just about every single aspect of my life is worse. All I seem to be able to do is eat (way too much) and sleep (way too much).
But I am also learning more and more as the years go by that absolutes don't exist. There is nothing that is 100% bad, even depression. So here are a few potential "silver linings":
WISDOM - I read somewhere recently that the wisest people are those that have "seen the same thing from many different perspectives". Being very depressed is its own ...
