Dyslexia (&dycalculia), maths phobia and UCKAT QR
I will be sitting the UCKAT for the first time this year. I've started revision already, but am experiencing significant trauma with QR. A bit of a biography: I was diagnosed with dyslexia (and dyscalculia, which was not a separate diagnosis at the time) at the age of 21. By this time I had already been through my mathematics education at a very elitist state grammar school that really didn't have time for girls who struggled with anything (i.e. the kind of school that only ever rewarded high achievement and never effort or improvement). So I was left to assume I was thick, and to develop a rather potent hatred and fear ...

The Conversion of a Doss-pot to Doctor
Hi, I'm Chris! :) I thought I would start one of these trailing blogs and update it every so often just to lay out my application for other in the future. Hopefully it'll be of some help if I get to Medicine eventually. Below is a summary of what has happened to date. GCSE Through school I was mid to top of my class, I generally worked hard and always had a keen interest in science. However I had always wanted to be a pilot as my mum had worked in airlines and my grand-dad had been an aero-engineer. Towards the end of my GCSEs I was told that I would never be allowed to be a pilot; this was due to complications with m...

Advice needed on application process!!!!! :D
Hi all! I haven't made any serious decisions as of yet but I am seriously looking toward applying to one of the graduate programs in the very close future. I am currently studying in my 2nd year of Biomedical science comfortably achieving a first average. I plan to take the UKCAT this summer in order to gain some experience in taking the examination but unsure whether to apply during my third year (don't really feel ready or prepared). I am currently a ward assistant in a hospital in Bristol as well as taking part in two volunteering university programs. I have planned to visit China this Summer for close to 2 months to...

Where to apply, GAMSAT or UKCAT?
Hi guys I'm new to the forum (and new to all forums in general). I wonder if anyone could offer me any advice on where I have the best chance of getting in for 2014 graduate entry. Firstly, do I attempt GAMSAT and UKCAT and try to apply for u...

good evening all. I am applying this year for 2014 entry and have a few questions to pick your brains with. I realise its only January but with a full time job, studying and volunteering time just seems to disappear very quickly so im trying to organise myself now whil i still have time! 1 - i am a private candidate self teaching A levels so am wondering how to put down predicted grades? I have looked on the UCAS website at their 'how to' video and it appears that i can just put 'pending' down in the A2 results box with no more elaboration needed. Has anyone on here done this and is it really that simple? I dont really w...

BM4 Application
Hi guys. I've applied for GEM at Southampton for 2013 entry. I'm studying Bio medical Science in Wales and am predicted a 2:i. My GCSEs and A Levels are pretty bad (BCC including Biology) and AS Chemistry Grade E. I got a UKCAT score of ~2600. I have a fairly decent amount of work experience, both as paid employment and shadowing within the NHS. Does anyone know if Soton take your GCSE/A Level grades into account? Do I even have the tiniest chance here! This wait 'til March is not going to be fun! Thanks in advanced. (Source: New Media Medicine)

What would is the best back-up for medicine? BioMed of Physio
Just curious as to which would be looked on more favourabley if done as an undergraduate if i was unsuccesful at applying next year but wanted to continue in an academic role, an undergraduate in Physiotherapy or BioMedical science. I know on the face of it, Biomedical science would seem the obvious answer, however Physio has alot of hands on working experience in a hospital, similar in some ways to the role of a consultant. Any help would be really appreciated. (Source: New Media Medicine)

My chances as a 2013 applicant or to do an undergraduate course first?!?!?!
I have wanted to study medicine since year 10 of upper school. However up until the end of year 12 i was a committed competitive swimmer, training 22 hours a week which involved getting up at 4am six mornings per week, so have never undertaken any work experience. This being said i have very strong GCSE's, A,A,A predicted A-levels, a solid reference and time spent volunteering at my local hospital but the lack of work experience is worrying me. Do you think i am likely to get any interviews where i could to 'talk myself in' or should i look at doing an undergraduate in Biomedical science first? Thanks in anticipation. (S...

Forced withdrawal, what to do next
So I was basically forced to withdraw my 2nd year or face dismissal. Looking back I might have had a chance to appeal if I were dismissed, but because I voluntarily withdrew I can't be re-admitted unless I re-applied, and the dean wouldn't say it was likely for me to get back in. I was on academic probation when i got very sick, and ended up doing terrible on a round of exams with virtually no chance of passing, so it was either withdraw or dismissal hearing. Currently I'm teaching/tutoring MCAT, taking a harvard extension school Pathophysiology course for undergrad credit (only open enrollment pathology course I found),...
