Five years of sleep apnea treatment with a mandibular advancement device.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Conclusions: Five-year oral appliance treatment does not affect TMD prevalence but is associated with permanent occlusal changes in most sleep apnea patients during the first 2 years. Patients seek several unscheduled visits, mainly because of technical complications. PMID: 19852636 [PubMed - in process]

Fixed orthodontic appliance therapy and its impact on oral health-related quality of life in chinese patients.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Conclusions: Fixed orthodontic appliance therapy did affect Chinese patients' OHRQoL. Patients were considerably compromised in terms of their overall OHRQoL until approximately 1 month after insertion. The severity of the compromised condition in terms of overall OHRQoL was greatest at 1 week with the reported impact on physical pain, psychological discomfort, and physical disability. Patients' OHRQoL was better after they completed the orthodontic treatment than before or during treatment. PMID: 19852639 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusions: The growth interval corresponding to the pubertal growth spurt (CS3-CS4) was longer in Class III subjects than in subjects with normal skeletal relationships; the larger increases in mandibular length during the pubertal peak reported in the literature for Class III subjects may be related to the longer duration of the pubertal peak. Physical properties of conventional and super slick elastomeric ligatures after intraoral use.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Conclusions: There were statistically significant differences in the failure loads of elastomerics that had not be placed in the mouth and those that had been in the mouth for 6 weeks. Tracheoesophageal (TE) speech using a voice prosthesis and hands-free speaking valve with an intraluminal attachment is the gold standard for voice restoration after total laryngectomy. Modification of a standard self-retaining silicone cannula or laryngectomy button often aids in the attachment of a speaking valve within the tracheal lumen for hands-free TE speech production. An increased number of laryngectomized individuals are able to achieve hands-free TE speech when the standard length, flange, and diameter of a silicone button is customized to accommodate individual tracheostomal contours. It has been reported that approximately one third of repairs of removable prostheses are related to the debonding or fracture of denture teeth. Most detachments occur in the anterior areas and may result from localized stress concentration. When repairing a debonded or fractured tooth, the occlusal relationship must be carefully evaluated to prevent heavy occlusal/excursive contacts on the repaired tooth. If a debonded tooth is intact and can be placed back in the denture, an index can be made to position the tooth for repair. Other techniques, such as arranging a tooth and securing it with a wax or stone index for repair,...
