Statement of problem: Several self-adhesive luting agents have recently been introduced on the market. It is crucial to know the effectiveness of such luting agents prior to their clinical application. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strengths (μTBS) produced by different self-adhesive cements and compare them with conventional luting agents. Material and methods: Six self-adhesive cements (RelyX Unicem (UN), RelyX U100 (UC), SmartCem 2 (SC), G-Cem (GC), Maxcem (MC), and SeT (SET), and 2 conventional luting agents, one that uses a 2-step etch-and-rins...

Material and methods: The gypsum products tested in this study were Model Plaster, Lab Plaster, and Mounting Stone. All materials were hand mixed for 5 seconds and mechanically mixed under vacuum for another 15 seconds. The mixes were poured into a linear expansion-measuring instr...

The mandibular implant-supported fixed restoration is an appropriate treatment choice for patients with inadequate bone volume in the posterior mandible. Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology has broadened the scope and application for this treatment option. A milled titanium bar retaining individual all-ceramic zirconium oxide crowns, with composite resin replicating gingival tissues, is recommended as an acceptable variation for this type of prosthesis. An alternative method for fabricating a mandibular implant-supported fixed restoration using CAD/CAM technology is described. (J Prosthe...

Surgical excision of malignant or nonmalignant tumors of the maxillofacial region can result in significant anatomical loss/compromise. Correction of the residual defect can be complicated by the presence of an underlying malocclusion and can be a significant clinical challenge if large numbers of teeth have been lost in surgery. This clinical report discusses the interdisciplinary treatment to rehabilitate a patient with a history of surgical removal of fibromatosis. Treatment involved the use of osseointegrated implants to facilitate orthodontic correction of an underlying malocclusion. The implants were subsequently use...

A round-rest, distal depression clasp is suggested as an esthetic alternative to a conventional clasp for maxillary anterior teeth serving as abutments for a removable partial denture. The facial surface of the abutment displays no metal and provides an esthetic result. (J Prosthet Dent 2009;102:286-289)

Conclusions: On average, it took two decades of betel quid chewing and cigarette smoking before oral cavity cancer diagnosis, making the life-time consumption of these substances an astonishing amount. Betel quid chewing and cigarette smoking patients are more likely to be diagnosed with oral cavity cancer at a younger age than those who have just one habit or none. Patients that smoke more are not only more likely to be diagnosed at a younger age, but also at an advanced stage.

Conclusions: There is an SES gradient in caries experience in adolescents in Pennsylvania. Disparities in caries experience, however, cannot be accounted for by SES-associated differences in brushing, flossing, sealant use, fluoride exposure, or recency of use of dental services. To facilitate the design of preventive interventions, future research should determine the pathways through which SES-associated disparities occur.
