This study evaluated the deterioration and wear of bristles of toothbrushes used by preschool children. For the sample selection, five elementary schools were assorted from a city of the São Paulo State northwest region, one from each city area. All toothbrushes used by preschool children who aged between 5 and 6 years old and who attended the assorted schools were visually analysed by two calibrated examiners, according to the criteria proposed by Rawls HR, Mkwayi-Tulloch NJ, Casella R, Cosgrove R (J Dent Res 1989; 12:1781): 0 [ndash] it is impossible to state if the toothbrush was used or not; 1 [ndash] the bristles see...

Gerodontology 2009; doi:10.1111/j.1741-2358.2009.00343.xImplant-supported overdenture in an elderly patient with Huntington's disease Huntington's disease is a hereditary, progressive, neuro-degenerative disorder characterised by increasingly severe motor impairment, cognitive decline and behavioural manifestations leading to functional disability. Dyskinesia and hyperkinesia of the tongue and the peri-oral musculature make it impossible for the patient to wear a conventional complete denture, despite an adequate alveolar ridge. The present paper reports on a patient with Huntington's disease who was rehabilitated with a m...

Conclusions: The results of the in vitro experiments suggest that salivary film influences early colonisation of different C. albicans strains. The film layer also minimises the differences among different strains. The Candida carriage of these patients was similar to denture-wearing patients without soft liners.

The aim of this study was to comparatively evaluate the intrusive forces and buccolingual torquing moments generated during anterior maxillary intrusion using different maxillary incisor intrusion mechanics. Five wire specimens were used for each of the following intrusive arches: blue Elgiloy utility arch 0.016 x 0.016 inch, TMA utility arch 0.017 x 0.025 inch, Burstone TMA intrusion arch 0.017 x 0.025 inch, and reverse curve of Spee NiTi 0.016 x 0.022 inch. The wires were inserted on bracketed dental arches constructed on maxillary Frasaco models, segmented mesially to the maxillary canines. Simulated intrusion from ...

Background:
Aim of this in-vitro-study was to assess the remineralization potential of a tooth cleaning tablet with different fluoride content.
Methods:
Twenty three caries free impacted third molars were examined, enamel surfaces were wax coated leaving two 3x4mm windows for exposure to demineralization/remineralization cycles. The teeth were randomly assigned to 4 Groups of 5 control and 6 experimental teeth. Demineralization by standardised HEC-gel, pH 4.7 at 37degreesC for 72h, was alternated by rinsing in remineralization solution, pH 7.0 at 37degreesC for 72h, total challenge time 432h. Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a benign bone lesion. Histologically, the replacement of the normal substance of bone by fibro-osseous connective tissue is the most distinct character. Recent research shows that fibrous dysplasia is caused by a somatic activating mutation of the Gsalpha subunit of protein G. It may involve one bone (monostotic) or multiple bones (polyostotic). Diagnosis relies on X-ray examination and pathology. The indications and extent of surgical therapy for craniofacial FD are controversial. Nonsurgical pharmacological treatments have been disappointing. This review presented the recent advances in clin...

Conclusion: Regardless of gender, there is a correlation between the pupils and the tangent with the incisal edge of the maxillary central incisors. Despite diversity in individuals, facial and anatomic measurements may aid in the execution and planning of rehabilitation treatments. (J Esthet Restor Dent 21:318[ndash]323, 2009)

Conclusions: The prevalence of carious cervical lesions among the five archaeological populations studied ranged from 0 to 65%. Non-carious cervical lesions were not prevalent among these populations, being found predominantly in Mexicans (26%). Historically, carious and non-carious cervical lesions can be found in individuals with no access to modern oral hygiene tools. The findings of this study are not conclusive, however, as the associations described are not causal. (J Esthet Restor Dent 21:324[ndash]335, 2009)

Conclusion: Use of light enhancement for in-office whitening leads to immediate color change, after which there was significant color and shade rebound within 7 days as well as moderate-to-severe tooth sensitivity during and after treatment. Increased tooth sensitivity during treatment and appreciable short-term color rebound after treatment may impact the utility of in-office tooth whitening with peroxide and light as a stand-alone esthetic procedure. Much contemporary esthetic and restorative dentistry relies on bonding of resin-based materials to tooth structure. Adhesion of resin materials to enamel has proved to be extremely strong and reliable since the concept was first introduced by Buonocore in 1955 and widely accepted by clinicians 20[ndash]25 years later. Enamel bonding is a simple and predictable process, because enamel presents a relatively homogeneous and largely inorganic substrate. Dentin, in contrast, is a heterogeneous tissue containing a large proportion of organic material and fluid, and is a difficult and variable substrate for bonding. Although clin...
