In recent years, many anatomical researches have showed that there are common and extensive connections between the trigeminal nerve and the facial nerve. They are briefly outlined as follows: (1) The infraorbital nerve communicates with buccal branch of the facial nerve. (2) The auriculotemporal nerve of the trigeminal nerve communicates with the buccal, zygomatic, temporal branches and the upper divisions of the facial nerve. (3) The supraorbital nerve communicates with the zygomatic and temporal branches of the facial nerve. (4) The mental nerve communicates with the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve. (5)...

Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a benign bone lesion. Histologically, the replacement of the normal substance of bone by fibro-osseous connective tissue is the most distinct character. Recent research shows that fibrous dysplasia is caused by a somatic activating mutation of the Gsalpha subunit of protein G. It may involve one bone (monostotic) or multiple bones (polyostotic). Diagnosis relies on X-ray examination and pathology. The indications and extent of surgical therapy for craniofacial FD are controversial. Nonsurgical pharmacological treatments have been disappointing. This review presented the recent advances in clin...

She had received BPs intravenously for 2 years to treat bone metastases of breast cancer. She was diagnosed with BP-related ONJ. Sequestrum including implants was resected, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy was performed. This case demonstrates how a conservative multidisciplinary approach facilitates excellent results in an esthetically demanding area. Atraumatic surgical techniques can maintain the natural soft tissue architecture, while a detailed approach to provisional and final restorations allows for a highly esthetic ...

Conclusions: The prevalence of carious cervical lesions among the five archaeological populations studied ranged from 0 to 65%. Much contemporary esthetic and restorative dentistry relies on bonding of resin-based materials to tooth structure. Adhesion of resin materials to enamel has proved to be extremely strong and reliable since the concept was first introduced by Buonocore in 1955 and widely accepted by clinicians 20[ndash]25 years later. Enamel bonding is a simple and predictable process, because enamel presents a relatively homogeneous and largely inorganic substrate. Dentin, in contrast, is a heterogeneous tissue containing a large proportion of organic material and fluid, and is a difficult and variable substrate for bonding. Although clin...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and semi-rapid maxillary expansion (SRME) in the mixed dentition period. The SRME group consisted of 18 patients (11 girls and 7 boys) with a mean age of 8.63 +/- 1.09 years and the RME group 17 patients (11 girls and 6 boys) with a mean age of 8.78 +/- 1.21 years. A splint type tooth- and tissue-borne modified bonded RME appliance was used, with the patients activating the screw two-quarter turns per day for the first week, followed by one-quarter turn every other day in the SRME group and two-quarter turns per day throughout t...
