Pulse or hyaline ring granuloma. Review of the literature on etiopathogenesis of oral and extraoral lesionsemail this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Abstract  Since the late 1950s, reports on an unusual giant-cell granulomatous lesion affecting the jaws, lungs, stomach and intestines have been published . Histopathologically, the lesions showed the presence of structureless hyaline rings with multinucleated giant cells. The aim of this review was to summarize the literature on the etiopathogenesis of the so-called oral and extraoral pulse or hyaline ring granuloma. Literature was searched using PubMed and Medline. In addition, hand search was performed. Search words were oral and extraoral hyaline ring granuloma, giant-cell hyaline angiopathy, pulse granu...

This case report shows the possibility of the application of a mandibular osteotomy to resolve mandibular asymmetry with independent and discordant movements of both bony segments. The patient underwent a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy, midline osteotomy, and genioplasty, which corrected the mandibular asymmetry with contraction of the entire right hemi mandible. A slight left vertical increase was also obtained through the surgically created ...

Heart rate and masseter muscle activity were recorded simultaneously. Volunteers performed three tasks: (1) free gum chewing, (2) gum chewing in which mastication was limited to the right side, and (3) gum chewing in which mastication was limited to the right side and rhythm was set at 1.0&n...

Abstract [ndash] Dental trauma is more common in young patients and its sequelae may impair the establishment and accomplishment of an adequate treatment plan. This paper reports a case of complicated crown-root fracture in a young adult that was treated using adhesive tooth fragment reattachment and orthodontic root extrusion. Considering the time elapsed to follow up, the fracture extension, the amount of remaining root portion and the patient's low socioeconomic status, the treatment approach proposed for this case provided good functional and aesthetic outcomes. Clinical and radiographic results after 2 years were succ...

Conclusion: The DEFB1 -44 G allele is associated with an increase in overall constitutive antimicrobial activity and expression of hBD1 and hBD3 in a manner that is consistent with protection from candidiasis, while the more common C allele is associated with IFN-gamma inducibility of these beta-defensins and is likely to be more protective in conditions that enhance IFN-gamma expression such as chronic periodontitis. These results suggest a complex relationship between genetics and defensin expression that may influence periodontal health and innate immune responses.

This article describes the fabrication and use of a graft-stabilizing clip (GSC) in such situations. The GSC ensures positive contact of the graft at the recipient site. It is simple in design, easy to fabricate, and requires use of commonly available instruments and materials. The clip can also be used as an oral stent to prevent relapse. It can be worn, removed, and cleaned by the patient easily. Being removable, the GSC facilitates periodic examination of the surgical site.

Dentists, dental students, and laboratory technicians would benefit from reduced time and cost by using fewer instruments to accomplish the laboratory phase of arranging prosthetic denture teeth. Clinically, patient office visits may also be more productive if fewer instruments are used. Clinicians would benefit by having the ability to reposition teeth more easily, satisfying esthetic and functional concerns. This can contribute to greater predictability in potentially shorter appointments. Modification of a spatula is described to allow improved control over the arrangement of individual prosthetic teeth.

Maxillary anterior tooth display should be predicted and controlled for an esthetic outcome in an edentulous patient. The customary prosthodontic procedure requires an occlusion wax rim to be contoured for adequate lip support and occlusal vertical dimension determination. The lip line is marked on the rim when the patient is in the full smile to determine the amount of tooth display and guide the selection of the artificial denture teeth. However, the smile line is dynamic, and the degree of anterior tooth display will vary depending on gender, race, lip fullness, age, and upper lip length.

The Essix design interim removable dental prosthesis (IRDP) has been recommended as an esthetic, quick, and inexpensive technique for replacing missing teeth. It is made from a trimmed, vacuum-formed thermoplastic sheet incorporating a commercial acrylic resin denture tooth or custom pontic. Because it is tooth supported, the Essix IRDP avoids transmucosal loading of healing areas following tooth extraction and implant site development or placement surgery. It may also be used following fixed orthodontic appliance therapy to replace missing teeth prior to definitive prosthodontic treatment.

An accurate transfer of the interocclusal relationship to the articulator is essential for the fabrication of a prosthesis. The accurate articulation of working casts results in less time spent adjusting occlusion. This has a direct effect on the quality of the restoration and the operational cost of treatment. Therefore, an ideal registration material and technique combination would allow the placement of an indirectly fabricated prosthesis intraorally with minimal occlusal adjustment.
