Twenty pre-machined abutments with a plastic sleeve were used. The abutment screws were tightened to 32 N cm in group 1 (n=10 [ndash] control) and to 32 N cm, loosened and re-tightened with the same torque twice in group 2 (n=10). Reconstructive procedures present a higher rate of biological costs due to the necessity of bone harvest and grafts, use of semipermeable barriers etc. On the hand, implant supported cantilever prostheses could allow a simpler rehabilitation procedure. The aim of the present study was to assess the clinical outcome of patients treated with implant-supported fixed partial dentures (FPD) with cantilever after a mean follow-up time of 8 years. The study included 45 consecutive partially edentulous patients treated between January 1994 and August 2006 with 59 partial cantilever fixed prostheses supported by 116 ITI® implants....

To compare the interproximal soft tissue dimensions adjacent to single implant restorations in the premolar[ndash]molar position with those adjacent to the contra-lateral natural teeth. Twenty-five patients with a single-tooth implant in premolar[ndash]molar position and healthy contra-lateral teeth were enrolled in this retrospective cross-sectional study. The reason for the extraction was periodontitis. Radiographs were used to measure the shortest distance from the tip of the papilla to the crestal bone in single implants and contra-lateral teeth. A Wilcoxon's signed-ranks test was used to examine the differences betwee...

Abstract [ndash] The purpose of this study was to test the null hypothesis that there is no difference in the pH on the external apical dentin surface when the canal is completely filled with calcium hydroxide or when it is placed 3 or 5 mm short of the apical foramen in extracted human teeth. The root canals of single-rooted anterior human teeth were cleaned and shaped after decoronation. Cavities about 0.50 mm deep and 1.0 mm wide located at 1, 3 and 5 mm from the radiographic apex were prepared on the external root surface and the teeth were randomly divided into four groups. The roots were filled with calcium hydroxide...

Abstract [ndash] Restorative odontology is in constant evolution and is constantly seeking more aesthetic solutions to attend to demands from patients in search of the perfect smile. The case study presented herein refers to the aesthetic and functional recuperation of dental element 21, through the use of a dental fragment obtained through an extracted tooth, a technique known as 'Biological Restoration'. The results obtained, which were highly satisfactory, lead one to conclude that this technique can be considered as an alternative to all others and can be carried out successfully, quickly, and inexpensively.

With the increase in the elderly population, the prevalence of systemic diseases such as strokes and heart attacks will also increase. Persons who have had a stroke will be more susceptible to mistreatment, neglect, abuse, and aspiration pneumonia. The expansion of the elderly population will make the training of professional healthcare workers and other auxiliaries extremely important. Quality of life can be maintained if poor oral health is reduced through better daily oral hygiene practices. Informing others about the known association between oral health and systemic diseases will increase the awareness of the need for...

The number of food items considered easy to chew, maximum bite force, occlusal contact area, number of teeth, and ADLs were significantly reduced (p < 0.05) at the second assessment when compared to the first. During the intervening 5 years, six of the eight patients adopted a soft diet. These results suggest deterioration in ADLs a...
