Humoral and cell‐mediated autoimmunity in lichen sclerosus
We read with great interest the paper of Edmonds et al. 1 who observed that men with penile lichen sclerosus (PLS) have significantly increased extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1) serum levels when compared to healthy controls (HC). Similar results were previously found in women with vulvar LS (VLS).2 Edmonds et al. 1 postulated that anti‐ECM1 antibodies are not the causative mechanism but present an epiphenomenon in LS. Nevertheless, there is evidence for humoral as well as cell‐mediated autoimmunopathogenic mechanisms driving LS.1‐5

Ichthyosis vulgaris ‐ the filaggrin mutation disease
Abstract Ichthyosis vulgaris is caused by loss‐of‐function mutations in the filaggrin gene (FLG) and characterized clinically by xerosis, scaling, keratosis pilaris, palmar and plantar hyperlinearity, and a strong association with atopic disorders. Clinical and epidemiological comparison of patients affected by palmoplantar plaque psoriasis and palmoplantar pustulosis: a case‐series study
ConclusionsOur data suggest a close relationship between PPP and psoriasis. The existing data concerning epidemiology, clinical presentation, genetics, histopathology and pathogenesis do not permit a clear distinction between these two entities, which seem to coincide in many aspects. PPP appears to have a marked predilection among female smokers.

Digital compression of facial arteries facilitates cutaneous nasal surgery
Non‐melanoma skin cancers on the nose frequently present to dermatology for surgical excision. This anatomical area has an excellent vascular supply and, consequently, increased intra‐operative bleeding (Fig. 1 (a)). Pinching the nasal tip to control bleeding is commonly used, however this can be uncomfortable for the patient because the nasal septum may not be anaesthetised (Fig. 1 (b)).

Cholinergic Urticaria Responding to Botulinum Toxin injection for Axillary Hyperhidrosis
A 43 year old caucasion gentleman had been receiving Botulinum toxin type A injections (BOTOX®, Allergan) for his axillary hyperhidrosis since 2004 with good effect. In June 2009 he gave an 18 month history of developing small prutitic wheals on his chest, arms and to a lesser extent his legs and back.. The lesions lasted between 5 and 120mins. There was no dermographism. Triggers included anxiety, physical exercise and hot showers.

Estradiol promotes the development of a fibrotic phenotype and is increased in the serum of patients with systemic sclerosis
Conclusions: Our findings implicate estrogens in the fibrotic process and may explain the preponderance of SSc in women. ICI or other ER signaling antagonists may be effective agents for the treatment of fibrosis.

Tacrolimus abrogates TGF‐β1‐induced type I collagen production in normal human fibroblasts through suppressing p38MAPK signalling pathway: implications on treatment of chronic atopic dermatitis lesions
ConclusionsThe present results demonstrated that tacrolimus significantly inhibited physiological functions of fibroblasts enhanced by TGF‐β1 in vitro. Clinically, we propose that topical tacrolimus may not only reduce AD recurrence but also ameliorate dermal fibrosis often seen in chronic AD lesions.

Molecular microarray analysis reveals allergen‐ and exotoxin‐specific IgE repertoires in children with atopic dermatitis
ConclusionAllergenic molecule microarray analysis can be regarded as a suitable research tool for large‐scale IgE screening in infants and children with atopic dermatitis (AD). Deep Vein Thrombosis in A Patient with Lepromatous Leprosy Receiving Thalidomide to Treat Leprosy Reaction.
We describe a case of deep vein thrombosis in a 43-year-old man with lepromatous leprosy who was being treated with thalidomide and prednisone for a type 2 leprosy reaction (erythema nodosum leprosum); the patient also had transiently positive antiphospholipid antibody results. Comparative Study of Biological Activity of Four Botulinum Toxin Type A Preparations in Mice
ConclusionThe dose‐conversion ratio between onabotulinumtoxinA and abobotulinumtoxinA was determined to be 1:2.6; previous reports of 1:3 were considered too high. A dose‐conversion ratio between onabotulinumtoxinA and new botulinum toxin of 1:1 was deemed appropriate. OnabotulinumtoxinA and incobotulinumtoxinA demonstrated a dose‐conversion ratio of 1:1.07. The efficacy of incobotulinumtoxinA was slightly lower than that of onabotulinumtoxinA. These dose‐conversion ratios are applicable solely from an efficacy standpoint and not for safety. This study was conducted in mice, so it may not translate perfectly to human applications.

Measurement of stress–strain behaviour of human hair fibres using optical techniques

In this study, the distribution of a new triazole drug, iodiconazole, in rat dermal interstitial fluid and blood was investigated by double-site microdialysis following dermal administration. Association between obesity and atopic disorders in Chinese adults: an individually matched case--control study
Conclusions: Obesity is positively associated with the presence of atopic diseases in Chinese adults. Specifically, obesity is significantly associated with atopic dermatitis and rhinitis. Our findings warrant further investigation on the causal nature between obesity and atopic diseases and the effect of weight reduction on preventing atopic diseases.

Familial short stature and intrauterine growth retardation associated with a novel mutation in the IGF‐I receptor (IGF1R) gene
ConclusionOur results show a novel missense mutation in the IGF1R gene (c.A1549T, p.Y487F) associated with prenatal and postnatal growth failure and microcephaly in the context of familial short stature. The functional studies are in line with the inactivation of one copy of the IGF1R gene with variable expression within the same family.
