Intravenous immunoglobulin for treatment of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease: a phase 2 dose-finding trial

It has been suggested in three small trials that intravenous immunoglobulin can affect biomarkers and symptoms of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.
A multicentre, placebo-controlled phase II study at sites in the USA and Germany was carried out to test the safety, effective dose and infusion interval of immunoglobulin in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease. Timing of diabetic patients consuming food following insulin administration

Type 2 diabetics can eat right after an insulin injection, according to a new study from Germany.
In a study of 100 diabetics (mean age 66.7 years), researchers found that blood sugar levels remained steady regardless of whether or not participants waited 20 to 30 minutes between using insulin and eating a meal.
In a crossover trial, they randomly assigned half their diabetic patients to wait 20 minutes to eat after injecting human insulin, and the other half to eat immediately.

Observational study suggests nitrofurantoins may pose little risk of birth defects

A large observational study in Norway, published in the February edition of the journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, suggests that nitrofurantoins may pose little risk for birth defects when taken during pregnancy.
The researchers studied a Norwegian national birth registry and a national prescription database for pregnancies in 2004-2008 to find 5,794 women exposed to nitrofurantoins (3.2%) at different stages during their pregnancy, (1,334 women (0.7%) in the first trimester and 979 women (0.5%) in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy). NICE has opened its consultation on potential additional indicators for the proposed 2014/2015 Clinical Commissioning Group Outcomes Indicator Set (CCGOIS, formerly known as the 'Commissioning Outcomes Framework').
