Symptoms in chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps
Conclusions:Although there were significant differences in scores on several symptoms, there was considerable overlap of many symptoms, and it remains difficult to distinguish between CRSwNP and CRSsNP based on clinical impression alone. Laryngoscope, 2013

Th17‐cells in atopic dermatitis stimulate orthodontic root resorption
ConclusionTh17 cells may therefore be associated with the deterioration of root resorption of AD mice, and may explain why AD patients are more susceptible to root resorption than healthy individuals when an excessive OF is applied.

Emerging insights into head and neck cancer metastasis
Abstract
The purpose of this review was to provide biological concepts of head and neck cancer metastasis. To attain this goal, we analyzed peer‐reviewed articles related to head and neck cancer metastasis obtained though PubMed and archived articles. Articles related to the biologic principles of head and neck cancer metastasis were reviewed and summarized. As locoregional control has improved for patients with head and neck cancer, rates of distant metastasis have not decreased. As patients live longer, many will die of complications related to the development of disease at sites below the clavicles. Emerging evidence ...

[Dizziness from the viewpoint of otorhinolaryngology.]
Abstract
Dizziness is a common symptom in daily clinical practice. Dizziness and vertigo affect the quality of life as they are associated with the risk of falls leading to limited ability of independent locomotion and thus to a reduction in social contact. The source of problems with dizziness is localized in the area of visual, somatosensory and vestibular sense inputs. The ear nose and throat (ENT) specialist is involved in an interdisciplinary context to elucidate and treat peripheral vestibular disorders. The subjective symptoms of dizziness have to be clarified by taking a careful patient history. By means of...

Association between early bacterial carriage and otitis media in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children in a semi-arid area of Western Australia: a cohort study
Conclusion:
Early NTHi carriage in Aboriginal children and Mcat in non-Aboriginal children is associated with increased risk of OM independent of environmental factors. In addition to addressing environmental risk factors for carriage such as overcrowding and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, early administration of pneumococcal-Haemophilus influenzae D protein conjugate vaccine to reduce bacterial carriage in infants, may be beneficial for Aboriginal children; such an approach is currently being evaluated in Australia.

The emergent surgical airway: cricothyrotomy vs tracheotomy
Abstract: The American Society of Anesthesiologists difficult airway algorithm identifies two acceptable emergency surgical airways in the ‘cannot intubate, cannot ventilate’ scenario: cricothyrotomy and tracheotomy. Little has been published regarding the emergency surgical airway practices at different institutions. The authors investigated whether the primary choice of emergency surgical airway at a major level I trauma centre was cricothyrotomy or tracheotomy. A retrospective chart review was conducted of emergency airways performed over 6 years using relevant current procedural terminology codes. The electronic me...

Prevalence of oral lesions of autoimmune etiology in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome
ConclusionThe results of our analysis suggest that patients with pSS have a 12% prevalence of OLAIE with a wide range (7.3–21.2%) found between practices. This difference is likely related to the different screening protocols for oral dryness between sites.

Pediatric Ameloblastic Fibro-Odontosarcoma of the Mandible: A Challenge of Diagnosis and Treatment
Ameloblastic fibrosarcoma (AFS), ameloblastic fibrodentinosarcoma, and ameloblastic fibro-odontosarcoma (AFOS) are rare malignant variants of combined odontogenic tumors. They may arise de novo or in a pre-existing benign tumor such as an ameloblastic fibroma (AF). AFS and AFOS occur mostly in young adults (mean ages, 27 and 30 years, respectively).

Morphologic Features of the Mandibular Ramus Associated With Increased Surgical Time and Blood Loss in Sagittal Split-Ramus Osteotomy
Conclusions:
The greater protrusion of the medial oblique ridge, thickened ramus, and longer distance from the mandibular incisors to the posterior border of the mandible may increase the surgical time and blood loss in patients undergoing classic SSRO. When planning or performing an SSRO, the morphologic features obtained from computed tomographic images may help surgeons gain a better understanding of the potential difficulties when the surgical site involves the medial aspect of the ascending ramus of the mandible.

Multiple Remediation of Soft Tissue Reconstruction in Osteoradionecrosis of the Mandible: A Case Report
Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the world. It accounts for approximately 4% of all cancers and 2% of cancer deaths worldwide. In the United States alone, about 21,000 new cases develop and 5,200 deaths occur from oral cavity cancer annually. The incidence is twice as high in men as in women.

Catheter-Based Donor Site Analgesia After Rib Grafting: A Prospective, Randomized, Double-Blinded Clinical Trial Comparing Ropivacaine and Bupivacaine
Conclusions:
The use of catheter-based analgesia after rib harvesting provides excellent postoperative comfort, with ropivacaine providing an earlier return to normal function compared with bupivacaine. The duration of action of ropivacaine was significantly longer and, hence, decreased the need for rescue analgesics.

Journal Alliance to Address Issues of Dual Submission and Plagiarism⁎
Submitting the same work, in whole or in part, to be considered by more than one journal at the same time—a practice known as dual submission—is a breach of professional and publishing ethics. Another serious ethical violation is plagiarism—namely, the use of the printed words of another individual or from another publication without giving the source appropriate credit.

Marketing—Preparing the Soil for Success
January represents different things to different people. For many, it is a time for new beginnings, full of New Year's resolutions to try new things or to stop doing unwanted things. Those in cooler climates who are employed to tend swimming pools during summer may find January a prosperous time to clear snow. Individuals in northern hemispheric subtropical climates enjoy January as a time to enjoy outdoor activities during less hot and humid days. I am an avid gardener. To some, this might suggest that January has little to offer someone with that avocation. However, the dedicated gardener will use the winter months to se...

Conclusions:
By this study, the relationship between concha bullosa in osteomeatal complex and the severity of sinusitis was not cleared. No relationship was found between the severity of sinusitis, osteomeatal involvement and the degree of septal deviation. Also SeD (either to right or left) was not found to be associated with the severity of sinusitis in different sinuses.
