MPH what kind of jobs does an MPH open?
I have tried to look for this but can't seem to find a straight forward answer. Is hospital administrator one of the jobs that an MPH can get or are they MD's? If anyone can give me a few examples of what can be done with an MPH I would greatly appreciate it. (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

dont worry about residency slots not being available for imgs
To those medical school applicants who could not get into a US school and are hearing of this thing that no fmgs will be accepted in the future. well let me tell you the facts. this year over 40% of the internal medicine residency positions went to IMG's. I as a US-IMG who went to UK for medical school (right out of high school, completing high school in south carolina) just matched into integrated vascular sugery for residency this year. And there are some programs that explicitly say they will not consider DO applications, but will look at IMG's. And if your goal is to possibly practice international medicine in places l...

Public Health or Psych for UG Major
As of right now I am majoring in Psychology and attending class on campus at a State University, however I have the option of doing eLearning/Blackboard classes through University of South Florida for a BS in Public Health. I have taken Intro to Epi and Public Health Writing using USF's distance learning option and I would really like to apply for a Public Health graduate program after graduation. I have a few questions I was hoping to have answered. 1) Would a Public Health undergrad major make me more competitive for a graduate program? 2) Given that most, if not all, of the courses can and will be taken through dista...

MPH Uw 2013
I'm in at UW's Global Health MPH for the Health Metrics & Evaluation track. IHME is a huge draw for me, but I worry that with a specific MPH in Global Health, I could find myself unable to work more locally if I so chose. My global health coworkers speak very highly of the program. Any current UW students have comments on: -Seattle / cost of living (especially transit / living without a car)? -Funding / assistantships (a grad told me most people get an RA/TA position)? -Practicum opportunities internationally? -Possibility of getting in-state tuition for year 2? I've spoken with grads who loved the program, and I'm m...

MD MD Application Question
Hi all, quick summary: Attending a tier 1 college, will be applying in state (Texas) with a 3.52-3.56 GPA. Excellent EC's (published biomed research with BCM/UTH, public health research abroad, v. strong letters of rec, held a job all throughout college, shadowed same physician team since high school, good on campus involvement, professor recently spoke to me about applying for a Fulbright, etc.). Can send more info on ec's/job if necessary. Took my first MCAT a year ago (early 2012), scored a 29. Thought it would be wise to re-take, in order to offset my average GPA. Studied very hard May-August, was averaging aroun...

UCLA Fielding SPH - Fall 2013
I just got my acceptance email from CHS today. I am so excited! UCLA's my #1. Anyone else out there ready to be a Bruin this fall?? What scholarships/fellowships have people gotten? They offered me $10,000 University fellowship for the first year. The agreement says if I got a Graduate Researcher position it might affect the fellowship. Any thoughts on how to fill the gap then? Just loans? I'm planning to go to the March 18 event, if I can get out of work. :naughty: (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

Upon accepting, what exactly happens to existing student loans?
I believe student loans (or at least loans above the college level) started to accumulate interest the moment I earned my MPH. This change is something new to 2012 I think, as this used to start 6-months after graduation. My question is, what happens to existing loan-debt after starting a PhD? Do the existing loans accumulate interest, or are they "frozen"? I believe they used to be frozen, but I'm not sure if anything else changed with the end of the 6-month grace period. SF Bay Area MA Counseling programs
Hi, I have been reading many of the threads on this board and have found it extremely helpful, especially in honing in on what degree would be the best fit for me given my ambitions. As a little background, I have a master in public health and have been working in the public health field for the past 6 years. While there are many things I enjoy about my work, I am realizing that I think work in counseling would be more fulfilling and more in line with my skills. MPH FAFSA question
Hi everyone- So I'm applying to George Washington for my MPH, and recieved an e-mail that said: "Do you plan to apply for Financial Aid? If so, submit your FAFSA by the Priority Deadline (January 15) to receive your financial aid package in early April." I'm working on FAFSA now, but there's some information that I just don't see how I can fill out until I file taxes, which I'm not doing until about a week after the "priority deadline". Namely, the amount of income tax I'm paying in 2012. On one part of FAFSA, it said I could use information from 2011 if it was similar to 2012, but I wasn't working...

Science LoR Question
Hey everyone, I recently graduated as a psychology major and am having difficulty with the "science letter of recommendation" requirement set forth by most medical schools. First off, I know the psychology professors will not count. However, my human sexuality professor (which is a class in the bio department) recently agreed to write me a letter. Will this count as a science LoR, even if she technically works in the "College of Public Health," rather than the "College of Biology?" Thanks in advance. (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

2 year non-research gap year job advice?

I'm wondering if its possible for me to get into an Epi PhD program without an Epi MPH, as its my 3rd time applying I really want to set myself up for success. I graduated from a top ten SPH with a 3.8 and got a V163(91% Q155(64%) AW4.5 (73%) and since then have been working as a Research Analyst I don't have any pubs (some abstracts and presentations) which was seen as a weakness from schools I didn't get ...
