Cross‐sectional and dynamic change of serum metabolite profiling for Hepatitis B‐related acute‐on‐chronic liver failure by UPLC/MS
Summary Summary Acute‐on‐chronic liver failure(ACLF) is an increasingly recognized entity encompassing an acute deterioration of liver function and results in the failure of one or more organs with high short‐term mortality. The focus of this study was to discover noninvasive and reliable biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of hepatitis B‐related ACLF. Ultra‐performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS) was used to analyse serum metabolites of 28 patients with hepatitis B‐related ACLF, 35 patients with Child‐Pugh A cirrhosis, 30 patients with chronic hepatitis B and 35 healthy volunte...

Inflammatory parameters and prediction of prognosis in infective endocarditis
Conclusions: For the first time, this study shows that in IE, an initial value of PCT > 0.5 ng/mL is a useful predictor of poor outcome, i.e. death or serious infectious complications. PCT > 0.5 ng/mL should raise the suspicion of Staphylococcus aureus as the etiological pathogen, whereas PCT levels < 0.5 ng/mL make staphylococcal infection unlikely. Exuberant inflammatory reaction after an infiltration of platelet-rich plasma (prp).
CONCLUSIONS: This case report calls attention to potential side effects that are linked to this new therapy by infiltration of platelet rich plasma in case of tendinopathy, in particular when used in patients with type 1 diabetes. Thus, the balance between benefits and risks must be carefully evaluated before using this treatment in patients with type 1 diabetes.
