Abstract  There exist many subcultures of men who have sex with men (MSM), all with differing values and health behaviors. The Leathermen comprise one such subculture, which is characterized by a heightened valuation of hypersexuality and adherence to sexual control dynamics (i.e., submission and dominance). No previous research has specifically examined this community for differences in sexual health (e.g., HIV rates) and sexual health behaviors (e.g., condom use). We conducted a large survey of men (N = 1,554) at one leather and non-leather event, collecting data from 655 Submissives, Dominants, Sw...

However, the interferon-γ release assay (IGRA) of the ascites was positive after specific stimulation with mycobacterial antigens (ESAT-6/CFP-10/TB7.7[p4]), indicating an infection with MTB. The diagnosis of tuberculosis was later confirmed by histology, MTB culture, and PCR analysis of MTB-complex DNA in tissue samples taken during laparoscopy. Thus, the IGRA of ascites may guide the decis...

Conclusions: The proportion of HIV-positive formal sector employees in Namibia is in line with national prevalence estimates and varies widely by employment sector. This suggests that anonymous HIV workplace surveys can serve as a tool to motivate private companies to provide health insurance to their workforce. Health insurance taken up by those who are able to pay the fees will alleviate the burden on the public sector.
