NIH leader calls for evidence on mHealth
Only about 20 randomized clinical trials involving mHealth tools or services have been conducted in the United States since 2008 under the auspices of the National Institutes for Health. And more than half of them have failed to document clear evidence of improved outcomes.
Francis Collins, MD, the NIH's director, delivered the message to attendess at the 2012 mHealth Summit in his closing keynote on Dec. 5. Collins pointed out that the lack of trial-based evidence is hindering acceptance of the technology by a healthcare industry that could really use these tools.

New Florida ACO in town
In what's been billed as one of the first commercial accountable care programs in Florida, the Naples, Fla.-based NCH Healthcare System will team up with the state's Blue Cross and Blue Shield Company to participate in the Florida Blue Accountable Care Program.

China gets mobile medical systems
JEMS Technology has begun supplying its JEMS mobile medical systems to the Chinese healthcare market. Initial orders have been placed for use of the JEMS systems in endoscopic procedures.
The JEMS server is being integrated into systems that will allow GI physicians to consult on endoscopic procedures remotely, an advantage in China where there is a limited amount of GI physicians and a large landscape.

Upstate New York healthcare network moves to electronic medical records
Bassett Healthcare Network, a six-member hospital network based in upstate New York, is continuing its transition to electronic medical records (EMRs). The network transitioned its outpatient services to an enhanced EMR back in 2011 and has recently implemented an EMR in the inpatient setting at the 180-bed Bassett Medical Center, which went live Dec. 8.
