GE has announced an initiative for developing wireless medical monitoring systems, or body-sensor networks (BSN). The new systems would replace the tangle of bedside cables used to capture a patient's vital signs.
As GE sees it, the systems would enable wireless monitoring from anywhere in the hospital - or even remotely from home. GE executives say it the switch would represent an important step forward in revolutionizing the way patients are monitored in the future,

The Delaware Health Information Network, live since March 2007 and a participant in the Nationwide Health Information Network trial implementations, is now preparing for its next transition.
DHIN has received federal funding through NHIN and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, state-appropriated funding that requires dollar-for-dollar matching in the private sector and grants from local health plans. Participating members pay based on their transaction volume.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is now releaseing healthcare IT funding from the stimulus package to state Medicaid programs.
According to a CMS letter mailed Wednesday to state Medicaid directors, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act enables the government to pay a 100 percent federal financial participation (FFP) match to states that help Medicaid providers adopt, implement or upgrade certified electronic health record technology to demonstrate meaningful use.

Garden City Hospital has upgraded its emergency department system with the addition of an electronic health record.
The Michigan hospital has installed the emergency department EHR from Dallas-based Emergisoft, which provided the hospital with its EmergisoftED emergency department system in 2004. The Web-based solution is cdesigned to automate each step of the patient management process in the emergency department and bring the hospital one step close to the "meaningful use" of IT.

Researchers in California are reporting development of a so-called "NanoPen" that could provide a quick, convenient way of laying down patterns of nanoparticles - from wires to circuits - for making futuristic electronic devices, medical diagnostic tests, and other much-anticipated nanotech applications. A report on the device, which helps solve a long-standing challenge in nanotechnology, appeared in ACS' Nano Letters, a monthly journal.

Conclusion: Results suggests that PTT response reflects the myogenic components in the early part of RH and PPG amplitude response reflects
the metabolic component reinforcing the later course of RH. PPG amplitude and PTT can be used to quantify the changes in diameter
and tone of the vessel wall, respectively during RH. The collective responses of PPG amplitude and PTT can be more appropriate
to facilitate PPG technique for monitoring of vasodilation caused by RH.

LENA Foundation has increased the accuracy of the LENA Autism Screen (LAS) to 91 percent for children 24 to 48 months. LAS - the first automatic and totally objective autism screen - is now as accurate or more accurate than other autism screens currently available to parents and clinicians.
