I told my mentor about my pregnancy yesterday at our team meeting. In front of the other team members, just in case (I'm paranoid like that). And he responded with genuine sounding congratulations.And today we met one on one to talk about my project and what I should be working on right now, and AGAIN he offered sincere congratulations, said it was a great time to have a kid, and offered childcare advice(!). It's best that we give balance to what we're doing. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since the Twin Towers fell. In these last few days there have been numerous articles about that day and of memorials being held in NYC. There's an article in the NYT about how Orthopedic surgeons and Primary Care doctors in the US get paid a lot more than in other countries. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people tell me that it's wonderful that I chose to go to medical school because being a doctor is such a great career..... for a woman.

VolunteeringPatient ContactResearch (any, whether it is in a lab doing chemistry or clinical with a hospital)Work ExperiencePrograms/activities helping the under privilegedMedically relatedDivision 1 Softball playerThe list goes on. My advice is to find something you enjoy and stick with it. It's better to have three things with 600 hours total versus having 20 to 30 things you're involved in. Sometimes be careful when you put down your hours.. I've heard that some people put more hours than whats possible in one week lol.
