Chemical Stimulants and Behavioral Conditioning
Abstract: How effective are behavioral conditioning techniques such as: Neuro-Linguistic Programming, self-hypnosis, meditation, the application of specialized kinesthetics, proper nutrition and others, at replicating or mimicking the effects of mood-altering stimulants (e.g. Adderall, Caffiene, etc) which cause elevated mood, increased productivity, clarity of mind, and confidence, while decreasing anxiety? If these behavioral techniques do mimic the positive mood-related effects caused by chemical stimulants, could there be a synergism when one uses behavioral and chemical treatments simultaneously? In result, on...

ongoing gastro problems
<BR>My daughter has recurring gastrointestinal problems where she has throwup episodes which come without warning despite being on prevacid, miralax twice daily, MOM, and a gluten free diet. Sometimes she gets some acid reflux before the throwup episode and sometimes not. Also, it's not even apparent that she has an obstruction as she's done gastrogaffin enemas. Any advice?

First meeting with Nutritionist
Hello All,<div><br></div><div>I just got the pleasure of meeting with a&nbsp;nutritionist for the first time, but I had a tough time. I have major digestive issues, like using the bathroom 2ce a month issues, but my doctor has been against putting me on enzymes. So I went to the nutritionist and the first thing she did was put me on an over the counter food enzymes called nature's sunshine. Has anyone used these bef...

Anyone else have reactive hypoglycemia?
The nutritionist at CF clinic told me I have reactive hypoglycemia - Every morning, I wake up feeling fine, sometimes hungry, and eat breakfast at around 7:30. Around 10:00, my blood sugar crashes - I feel ravenous, spacey, shaky, and sometimes sweaty. I eat a snack with protein and carbs, which helps for a little while, but in an hour it will happen again and will still feel like crap until I eat lunch. By lunchtime I am so hungry that I feel like I could eat a thanksgiving dinner (and I usually pig out). Then I am fine for the rest of the day.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>The nutritionist told me ...

Gaining Weight the Healthy Way
When I was younger (before I was diagnosed and shortly after) I had no issue gaining weight. I danced so I was big on eating healthy because that was part of dancing. Now I am 21 and I need to gain weight. I have never been strict about enzymes. I will go forever without taking them. I just accept the&nbsp;repercussions of what happens with certain things I eat and not taking them. My RD has just told me to eat any and everything...just gain weight. This doesn't work well for me. My husband needs to lose weight and I know that if I could diet with him it wouldn't be an issue, but he needs about 1,700 kcal and...

How will tution fee changes affect GEP application numbers?
In conclusion I haven't got a clue how this will turn out, but somehow I don't think GEP entry will be quite the olympic event that people assume. The perceived increase in competition might be self perpetuating as people strive harder... but this should have happened last year and the annual UKCAT report tells a different story. 5 year medicine will almost certainly be easier for those of us lucky enough with the means to fund it, but may be harder than you'd think due to the hopeful and the ignorant factions muddying the water. Only time will tell.

Re: Losing Weight Made Easy
A good diet makes much difference in weight. Eating junk food just to satisfy hunger is harmful, because they can fill their stomachs at this time, but the presence of fat and cholesterol in these foods is not simply a breakdown in the stomach.

Soreness in some spots (sides ...

Funding for alternatives to medicine
Hi all, With the funding changes expected from 2012 onwards for medical degrees, I am now beginning to consider alternatives to medicine. The thought of getting into debt by another £28,000 in tuition fees on top of the student loans I would have to take out for living costs is certainly a worry for me, especially on top of my debts from my previous degree. Therefore, I am starting to think about doing a graduate route MSc in something like physiotherapy or dietetics instead.
