SUMMARY: Diazepam is a long-acting benzodiazepine used as a hypnotic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant. Its actions are mediated by enhancement of the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain.
Data on the risk of congenital malformation following use of diazepam in pregnancy are highly confounded by the research techniques employed in the majority of the available studies. Evidence is therefore conflicting; with some older studies suggesting possible inc...

There is very little published data regarding the use of dosulepin in pregnancy. Neonatal withdrawal symptoms may occur following chronic use or use near the time of delivery of any antidepressant. The neonate should be monitored for adverse effects such as drowsiness, jitteriness, hyperexcitability and suckling problems. Some studies have suggested that exposur...

Next door in Uganda, four times as many women will become pregnant, approximately 1.5 million. If recent trends hold, nearly 10,000 of these women will lose their lives during or shortly after their pregnancy. Effectiveness of a multidisciplinary care program on recovery and return to work of patients after gynaecological surgery; design of a randomized controlled trial

DiscussionThe discrepancy between expected physical recovery and actual return to work after gynaecological surgery contributes to the relevance of this study. There is strong evidence that long periods of sick leave can result in work disability, poorer general health and increased risk of mental health problems. We expect that this multidisciplinary care program will improve peri-operative care, contribute to a faster return to work of patients after gynaecological surgery and, as a consequence, will reduce societal costs considerably.Trial registration: Netherlands Trial Register NTR2087 (Source: BMC Health Services Research)

Conclusion Unanticipated difficult airways accounted for 0.56% of all pregnancy-related surgical patients. More than 99.9% of all obstetric
patients could be intubated. A difficult airway is more likely to be encountered by anesthesia providers with <1 year of experience.
Proper use of airway equipment may help secure the obstetric airway or provide adequate ventilation. Emergency CD did not
add an additional level of difficulty over nonemergency CD.

Inactivation of GPR30 reduces growth of triple-negative breast cancer cells: possible application in targeted therapy

Abstract Triple-negative breast cancers lack estrogen receptor α (ERα), progesterone receptor, and do not overexpress human epidermal
growth factor receptor 2 (Her-2). They are neither susceptible to endocrine therapy nor to a therapy using the anti-Her-2
antibody, trastuzumab. Therefore, an efficient targeted therapy is warranted. Triple-negative breast tumors frequently express
membrane bound estrogen receptor G-protein coupled receptor (GPR30). As proof of principle, we analyzed the consequences of
a knock-down of GPR30 expression on the growth regulation of triple-negative breast cancer cell lines. Cel...
