Dutch researchers have reported on a four year project to follow a group of women who had received either an abdominal hysterectomy or a laparoscopic hysterectomy for benign conditions to find out if there was any difference in their quality of life post operatively.
They found that those women who had received a laparoscopic hysterectomy reported a better quality of life post operatively than those women who had received an abdominal hysterectomy. The recommendation is that for women where a vaginal hysterectomy is not feasible, that they are considered for laparascopic surgery instead.
