Stillbirth And Liver Problems: New Treatment Target On The Horizon
Obstetric cholestasis (OC) is a liver condition that occurs during pregnancy in women. It affects about one in 140 pregnancies in the UK, and can result in stillbirth.1,2 Abnormally high levels of substances in the body linked with pregnancy hormones can contribute to the development of OC, by reducing the body's ability to remove bile from the liver. This results in a build up of toxic bile acids in the bloodstream, causing severe itching especially on the hands and feet, from around week 28 of pregnancy...

[Rupture of membranes: Pathophysiology, diagnosis, consequences and management.]
Abstract
Rupture of membranes (ROM) depends on mechanical stretch, extracellular matrix components imbalance and increased apoptosis. It occurs in 2 to 3% of all pregnancies before 37weeks' gestation (WG) and in up to 10% at term. Main consequences are labor induction and risk of maternal-fetal infection. ROM is associated with one third of preterm births and about 20% of perinatal mortality. This review deals with recent knowledge concerning ROM including diagnosis and management. In many cases, ROM is easily identified by clinical examination. In other cases, the use of vaginal pH appears to be less efficient tha...

Current methods and attitudes of women towards contraception in Europe and America
Conclusions:

Do parental heights influence pregnancy length?: a population-based prospective study, HUNT 2
Conclusions:
Women with shorter stature had shorter pregnancy length and lower risk of post-term births than taller women, and when EDD was based on ultrasound, they also had higher risk of preterm births. The effect of maternal height was generally stronger when pregnancy length was based on second trimester ultrasound compared to last menstrual period. The association of maternal height with pregnancy length could not be explained by cardiovascular risk factors. Paternal height was not associated with pregnancy length or with the risk of pre- and post-term birth.

An integrative review of the side effects related to the use of magnesium sulfate for pre-eclampsia and eclampsia management
Conclusion:
Concerns about safety and toxicity from the use of magnesium sulfate should be mitigated by findings from this integrative review, which indicates a low incidence of the most severe side effects, documented in studies that used a wide variety of standard and modified drug regimens. Adverse effects of concern to providers occur infrequently, and when they occurred, a delay of repeat administration was generally sufficient to mitigate the effect. Early screening and diagnosis of the disease, appropriate treatment with proven drugs, and reasonable vigilance for women under treatment should be adopted as global policy and practice.

Ultrasound‐accelerated catheter‐directed thrombolysis for the management of postpartum deep venous thrombosis
Abstract
Pregnancy and the postpartum period are associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism, which remains an important cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. Although oral or systemic anticoagulation therapy may minimize thrombus propagation, it remains ineffective in removing thrombus burden and consequently does not prevent post‐thrombotic syndrome. A novel technique, ultrasound accelerated catheter directed thrombolysis (UACDT), has been developed to rapidly and completely resolve thrombus. While pregnancy and the postpartum period are generally considered as contraindications for thrombolysis, w...

Pregnancy following ovarian induction in a patient with premature ovarian failure and undetectable serum anti‐Müllerian hormone
We report the first case, to the best of our knowledge, of successful conception following ovarian induction in a patient with premature ovarian failure and undetectable serum anti‐Müllerian hormone. A 34‐year‐old woman was referred because of ovarian amenorrhea. After endogenous gonadotrophins were normalized by hormone‐replacement therapy and gonadotrophin‐releasing hormone agonist, ovarian induction was performed using exogenous gonadotrophins. On ovarian induction day 8, one follicle had reached a mean diameter of 19.6 mm, the serum estradiol level had increased to 516 pg/mL, and human chorionic gonadotr...

New horizon on successful management for a woman with repeated implantation failure due to unresponsive thin endometrium: Use of extended estrogen supplementation
Abstract
An adequate thickness and pattern of the pre‐ovulatory endometrium is considered one of the essential requirements for a successful pregnancy. Although various methods for increasing endometrial thickness have been proposed, the real value of these interventions remains controversial. Here, we present a case of successful administration of extended estrogen supplementation before conventional controlled ovarian hyperstimulation in a woman who had experienced repeated implantation failure because of an unresponsive thin endometrium. After the estrogen supplement was administrated for an extended period, the in vi...

According to research reported early online in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, use of oseltamivir to treat or prevent H1N1 influenza during pregnancy does not appear to increase the risk of early birth, poor foetal growth or a low Apgar score at birth.
The researchers note that only a few studies have examined the association between maternal use of oseltamivir and pregnancy outcomes. Although the benefit of treatment of pregnant women with antivirals is presumed to outweigh its risks, the limited information available is challe...

I feel sad as I never managed to have that child I always wanted even after lots of infertility treatments. Now it’s too late . I know it’s early days but am glad to,be home. I am taking regular painkillers but sleep is still evasive! hopefully this is just a new chapter in my life but my hubby is worried that I will change now. We will just have to see.
