Article: "Shadowing: Thinking outside the [clinical] box."
The interviewer solemnly looked down at the papers scattered before him. Interrupting his own seemingly deep thought, he quickly glanced up at the nervous applicant, "I see that you have 10 hours of formal physician shadowing." After taking in a breath that was perceivably deeper than before, he continued, "So, tell me, do you feel that was enough exposure? Are you confident that those 10 hours were representative of the profession, representative enough for you to validly spend the rest of your life on this journey through medicine? Did those 10 hours render the entire spectrum of medicine [from the highest...

<p>First let me say thanks to the many on this board...There was lots of info flying around about getting a prescription for VX770 Kalydeco. I called Vertex Pharma and asked would they fill a prescription if I did not have the G155 mutation. The answer YES!. As long as my DR. will prescribe it and insurance or I am willing to pay for it ie. cash, they will fill that script through one of thier pharmacies that has it. Now when they put in the order there is a form that asks do you have g155...Feel free to check no if you don't have it. It is then up to your insurance company to go ahead and pay for it or not. Aga...

Cystic Fibrosis is a Business!!!!!!!!
Originally posted by: Solo I actually somewhat agree with imanov here. And I know what I have to say will not be popular, but I call em like I see em. I disagree with him, in that there are specific genetic mutations that are used to identify the illness. Diseases, IMO, are just names given to a set of symptoms. But that's common sense I suppose. As far as CF being a business, I agree. How much money does the CF and other pharmacies rake in annually just dispensing meds to treat these symptoms? Compare that to how much they would make if a cure was suddenly found. Many millions of people would be jobless and the pharmacie...

Pharma NAC fizzy tablets
i have not tried it specifically on my dd, but several members here swear by it. I don't remember why, but Bioadvantex is considered superior to other brands. Hopefully someone will reply. Maybe you can post it in adult section where more people can see it. PS. you can check out Amy's blog (saveferries something screen name). if i remember correctly she had good results and might have more info on it. (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Nutrition Forum)

Remember this wonderful thread? http://forums.studentdoctor.net/show...ight=oxycontin Anyway, does anyone know if the new formulated oxycontin has some of its dose dumped - or immediately released, or is it finally a true sustained release product? The Purdue Pharma rep would not let me know either way. If Oxycontin if finally a sustained released drug, I may not have such horrible disdain for it now. (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

How is Big Pharma complicit in all this?
My biggest gripes with them is that: 1. They spend more on marketing than development, but they act as if they spend a lot on development. I realize that to develop a drug is typically $100B. I've seen the numbers myself, and I believe this. 2. A pharma-salesperson is NOT a biotech major in college or a bio major or even a chemistry major. The uber-photogenic pharma salesperson is a super good looking marketing or business major from a nice sorority. They get paid to seduce MDs, if you think about it. 3. Pharma companies are very profitable! The average profitability of an S&P 500 company in aggregate is 7%, and fo...

It's finally almost here!
I was not able to see the results of my sweat chloride tests nor was the clinic. The test was analzyed by a lab and results sent straight to the pharma co. As for the NPD results...there was a difference on my pre drug NPD results and after I received drug in Ph. 2B (ie. more "normalized"). I have worked very closely with Chris Kubrak & Ron Rubenstein of CHOP. They are very sweet and intelligent people & very dedicated to finding a cure. I will be in touch with them for the rest of my life. You are in good hands and Ron would serve well as a doc to get second opinions on stuff throughout the kid(s) lives. (Source: Cystic F...

warning to anyone who has ever used an internet pharmacy
Author: Matt2 Posted: Sat Aug 15, 2009 10:16 am If I'm not mistaken here in the states we're allowed to order non controlled substance medications from abroad with a valid prescription. I'd definately be careful though and only order from a site that requires you to actually send them the prescription, has a listed address and phone number. I'd even call them ahead of time before ordering anything just to make sure it actually seems like a legit pharmacy. Another important thing to remember: if it seems to good to be true (as far as how much the medication costs) th...

Help with mood
Author: hawker1 Posted: Sun Jul 19, 2009 2:28 pm Hi Guys, I don't know if this site frowns upon sharing ideas about supplements you can take to help with this process but I found one that I think is a HUGE winner. They may sound a bit cheesy or like it's a code name for a real drug but happy pills have helped me a ton. We all have those moments where we feel so down and want to give in. I went through a short phase where when I felt like that I'd take one of my girlfriend's concertas (add meds)...huge mistake! Then I'd feel even worse. So give these a shot guys. I'...
