Lab testing company Quest cutting hundreds of U.S. jobs
Quest Diagnostics Inc. will trim between 400 and 600 jobs nationwide by the end of 2013 in a move that will save the company $65 million. Riddle Memorial breaking ground for emergency department expansion

Navy says Bethesda medical center expansion won't add much traffic
Bethesda residents expressed outrage over the Navy's first public explanation of how its expansion plans would affect traffic around the medical center campus along Rockville Pike at a public meeting on Thursday, the Washington Examiner reported. The Navy is planning a five-story building, a 341,000-square-foot research center and a 500-space underground parking garage.

Kansas Supreme Court to rule on pain-and-suffering cap
After three years of waiting, the Kansas Supreme Court is expected to issue a decision Friday on a state law that limits to $250,000 the amount a plaintiff can receive in a civil suit for noneconomic damages, commonly known as pain and suffering. The U.S. economy added an estimated 114,000 jobs to nonfarm payrolls in September, according to the federal government's monthly jobs report. Riverside General Hospital CEO Earnest Gibson III, his son and five others were arrested by the FBI Thursday, according to media reports.
