Augmented low-Dye tape alters foot mobility and neuromotor control of gait in individuals with and without exercise related leg painemail this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Background: Augmented low-Dye (ALD) tape is frequently used in the management of lower limb musculoskeletal pain and injury, yet our knowledge of its effect is incomplete, especially in regard to its neuromotor effects. Methods: We measured electromyographic (EMG) activity of twelve lower limb muscles, three-dimensional kinematics of the ankle, knee, hip and pelvis, foot posture and foot mobility to determine the physiological effect of ALD tape. Fourteen females with exercise related leg pain and 14 matched asymptomatic females walked on a treadmill under three conditions: pre-tape, tape and post-tape. A series of repeate...

Treatment of Osteoarthritis of the Ankle by Intra-articular Injections of Hyaluronic Acid: A Prospective Study.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Conclusions: Symptomatic relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis of the ankle was achieved by injection of an intra-articular preparation containing sodium hyaluronate. There were significant improvements, in objective and subjective parameters, that lasted for more than 7 months. Ankle intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate is a valid conservative treatment for ankle osteoarthritis. Low recurrence rate of diabetic foot ulcer after nerve decompression.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Conclusions: Surgical decompression of lower-extremity nerves of high-risk feet at fibro-osseous anatomical tunnels was followed by a low annual incidence of ulcer recurrence. This objective outcome measure suggests benefits of nerve decompression in diabetic neuropathy, as have previous reports using pain and sensory change as subjective measures. Unrecognized nerve entrapment may frequently coexist with diabetic sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy in patients with diabetic foot ulcer. Intraosseous epidermoid inclusion cysts are rare benign bone lesions that occur most commonly in the skull and in the distal phalanges of the fingers. Herein we report a case of an intraosseous epidermoid inclusion cyst occurring in the distal phalanx of the left hallux. Only six occurrences of this lesion have been described in the foot. This patient's presentation, with active drainage (initially appearing as purulent discharge from an acutely tender ingrown hallux nail) and a known inoculation event accompanied by severe peripheral vascular disease, make this case unique. Calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystal deposition disease has various clinical features, and pseudogout is one of the six clinical forms. Chondrocalcinosis is the term used to describe the radiographic appearance of the disease. A review of the literature revealed that the appearance of this type of arthropathy in the foot is infrequent. We offer a review of the disease and report an atypical bilateral case of pseudogout in a patient 56 years of age without a history who presented with symptoms of arthritis localized in the first metatarsophalangeal joint associated with hallux valgus and was treated surgically. We report a case of venous aneurysm of the dorsal venous arch of the foot with an unusual traumatic etiology. A clinical diagnosis of venous aneurysm was made, and she was treated with surgery. Most cases of superficial venous aneurysms only arouse medical interest, with few cosmetic complaints and no complications. This case is unique because it describes a traumatic venous aneurysm associated with repeated trauma caused by inappropriate footwear. All clinicians and a...
