Diversity in the chiropractic profession: preparing for 2050.
Abstract
As the diversity of the United States (US) population continues to change, concerns about minority health and health disparities grow. Health professions must evolve to meet the needs of the population. The purpose of this editorial is to review current trends in the diversity of chiropractic students, faculty, and practitioners in the United States. This editorial was informed by a search of the literature, to include PubMed, using the terms chiropractic and diversity, minority, and cultural competency. Demographic information for the chiropractic profession was obtained from the National Board of Chiropr...

Manikin-based clinical simulation in chiropractic education.
CONCLUSIONS: High levels of student satisfaction and perceived achievement of learning outcomes were consistently achieved. A trend to successful integration of basic science knowledge provides reason for cautious optimism. More research is recommended.

Degree of vertical integration between the undergraduate program and clinical internship with respect to cervical and cranial diagnostic and therapeutic procedures taught at the canadian memorial chiropractic college.
CONCLUSION: There was a low degree of vertical integration for cranial procedures as compared to a much higher degree of vertical integration for cervical procedures between the undergraduate and clinical internship programs taught. Vertical integration is an important element of curricular planning and these results may be helpful to aid educators to more appropriately allocate classroom instruction.

Formative dialogues in teaching nonthreatening peer coaching.
Abstract
Teaching universities, while claiming to value good teaching, do little to help individual faculty members improve learning in their classrooms. One effective way to help teachers reflect on their teaching and improve their teaching skills is to have a colleague observe and discuss the teaching episode, yet these dialogues seem to be rare. Visits to the classroom, if they occur at all, are usually summative, with little or no discussion, and typically used for the purposes of evaluation. The formative dialogues program, however, provides opportunities for faculty members to request a collegial, nonthreaten...

Perceptions of the ankle brachial index amongst podiatrists registered in Western Australia
Conclusion:
Western Australian podiatrists agree that the ABI is a useful tool for lower limb vascular assessment, however, various factors influence uptake in the clinical setting. This study suggests that a podiatrists' profile has a significant influence on the use of the ABI, which may be attributed to different patient types across the various settings. The influence of time spent in practice on ABI usage may be attributed to differences in clinical training and awareness of lower limb pathology over time. The authors recommend publication of 'best practice' guidelines to ABI performance, as well as further education ...

Prescribing powers proposed for physiotherapists and podiatrists
Ministers have agreed to lay amendments to medicines legislation before Parliament that would enable independent prescribing responsibilities to be extended to appropriately qualified physiotherapists.

Screening for foot problems in children: is this practice justifiable?
Podiatry screening of children is a common practice, which occurs largely without adequate data to support the need for such activity. Such programs may be either formalised, or more ad hoc in nature, depending upon the use of guidelines or existing models. Although often not used, the well-established criteria for assessing the merits of screening programs can greatly increase the understanding as to whether such practices are actually worthwhile. This review examines the purpose of community health screening in the Australian context, as occurs for tuberculosis, breast, cervical and prostate cancers, and then examines po...

Equine Imaging: The Framework for Applying Therapeutic Farriery
Radiographic evaluation of a horse's foot gives tremendous insight into the relationship between the structures within the foot and between the foot and distal limb. The information gained from a radiographic study is highly dependent on the quality of the radiographs. A systematic approach should be taken when planning a radiographic study of the foot. Taking the time to examine the foot and prepare it properly will avoid the need, risk, and expense of repeating images and will improve the quality and therefore the interpretation of your radiographic images. When evaluating the foot for podiatry reasons, it is crucial tha...

Foot‐related healthcare use in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in an outpatient secondary care center for rheumatology and rehabilitation in the Netherlands: a cohort study with a maximum of 15 years of follow‐up
Conclusion. In an outpatient secondary care center in the Netherlands, RA patients with foot complaints visit the podiatrist in an early stage of the disease. When foot complaints deteriorate, patients visit the rehabilitation physician, who subsequently refers patients to the multidisciplinary foot‐care clinic for therapeutic footwear. The orthopaedic surgeon is the final step in the management of foot complaints.

Workplace Exposure to Bioaerosols in Podiatry Clinics
Conclusions
Even if statistical analysis of data is limited by low sample numbers, this study showed that the frequency of cleaning and use of RPE varied between clinics sampled, and it is likely that refresher health and safety training focusing on health and safety hazards inherent in podiatry work and practical control measures is warranted.

An analysis of Euroqol EQ-5D and Manchester Oxford Foot Questionnaire scores six months following podiatric surgery
Conclusion:
Both the MOXFQ and EQ-5D index (but not the VAS) appear sensitive to changes in health status at 6 months following elective foot surgery. Both instruments were particularly responsive to changes in pain, mobility and activity or social interaction following treatment. The MOXFQ was developed specifically for foot surgery and as such appears to be the more sensitive instrument. However the generic EQ-5D may allow comparison of general health states in the wider health community. Both instruments when used together appear well suited to the measurement of change in perceived health status following foot surgery.

Metabolic Memory and Chronic Diabetes Complications: Potential Role for Epigenetic Mechanisms
Abstract Recent estimates indicate that diabetes mellitus currently affects more than 10 % of the world’s population. Evidence from
both the laboratory and large scale clinical trials has revealed that prolonged hyperglycemia induces chronic complications
which persist and progress unimpeded even when glycemic control is pharmaceutically achieved via the phenomenon of metabolic
memory. The epigenome is comprised of all chromatin modifications including post translational histone modification, expression
control via miRNAs and the methylation of cytosine within DNA. Modifications of these epigenetic ma...

Physical therapies for Achilles tendinopathy: systematic review and meta-analysis
This study aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis (where possible) of the evidence for physical therapies for AT management. A comprehensive strategy was used to search 11 electronic databases from inception to September 13th 2011. Search terms included Achilles, tendinopathy, pain, physical therapies, electrotherapy and exercise (English language full-text publications, human studies). Reference lists of eligible papers were hand-searched. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were included if they evaluated at least one non-pharmacological, non-surgical intervention for AT using at least one outcome of pain ...
