CONCLUSION: CT enteroclysis may help establish a diagnosis of uncomplicated CD and may clarify the cause of nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with unknown CD. However, future prospective trials are needed to determine the actual value of CT enteroclysis in patients with CD and validate the clinical usefulness of CT enteroclysis in the detection of unknown uncomplicated CD. As many as 170,000 cancer patients will develop brain metastases each year . Brain metastases represent the most common neurologic manifestation of cancer, occurring in 15% of cancer patients, particularly those with lung and breast cancer diagnoses . Clinical , imaging , and autopsy series have shown that approximately half of brain metastases will be solitary and half will be multiple. Among patients with multiple lesions, the majority of metastases (70%) are found supratentorially . The most common symptoms of brain metastases are headache, altered mental status, and focal weakness, occurring in up to half of patients. ...

Minimizing the mortality associated with the H1N1 flu virus, also known as swine flu, will require creative use of various tools to assess the disease and its severity. For that task, chest CT is emerging as a useful modality, both to confirm H1N1 diagnosis (more) (Source: AuntMinnie.com Headlines)

CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of an adjacent VCF 1 year or less after vertebroplasty was comparable with that expected for untreated osteoporotic VCFs. Neither the volume of cement injected nor extravasation of cement into the intravertebral disk affected the likelihood of subsequent adjacent VCFs. Cement volume did not correlate with pain relief. Conclusion: Experience with SKyphoplasty is relatively limited, and little information has appeared in the literature to support its theoretical benefits. After review of previously published material, an audit of our institutional experience, and discussion with other practioners who perform this procedure, it would appear that pain relief by using this device is at best similar to that of conventional vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. There was no evidence of height restoration in our patient population, an advantage that has been brought into question.Abrégé: Objectif: La skyphoplastie est une nouvelle méthode d'augmen...

Asystole and increased serum myoglobin levels associated with 'packing blackout' in a competitive breath-hold diveremail this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
We report a case with a breath-hold diver who inadvertently experienced a packing blackout. During the incident, an electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure were recorded, and blood samples for determinations of biomarkers of cardiac muscle perturbation (creatine kinase-MB isoenzyme (CK-MB), cardiac troponin-T (TnT), and myoglobin) were collected. The ECG revealed short periods of asystole during the period of 'packing blackout', simultaneous with pronounced reductions in systolic, diastolic, and pulse pressures. Serum myoglobin concentration was elevated 40 and 150 min after the incident, whereas there were no changes i...
