Odysseus (OdsH) has been identified as a hybrid male sterility gene between Drosophila mauritiana and D. simulans with accelerated evolutionary rate in both expression and DNA sequence. LIM-homeobox transcription factor 1, alpha (LMX1A) inhibits tumourigenesis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition and stem-like properties of epithelial ovarian cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: The present study demonstrated, for the first time, that LMX1A is a bona fide tumour suppressor of ovarian cancer. The prognostic values of LMX1A may provide a biomarker for personalized treatments of ovarian cancer patients The mechanisms of LMX1A in EMT and stem-like properties in ovarian cancer warrants further investigation.

Invasive fungal disease (IFD) is an important problem complicating the therapy of hematologic patients. We conducted a retrospective review of 275 hematologic patients who were prescribed anti‐fungal drugs in a four‐year period (2007–2010), of whom 130 (47%) had undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Effect of Human Parathyroid Hormone on Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells in NOD/SCID Mice Co-Transplanted with Human Cord Blood Mononuclear Cells and Mesenchymal Stem Cells.
Conclusion: We have demonstrated a positive effect of hPTH on stem cell proliferation and a possible synergistic effect of MSCs and hPTH on the proportion of human hematopoietic progenitor cells, in a xenotransplantation model. Clinical trials of the use of hPTH after stem cell transplantation should be considered.

Transplantation is a successful treatment for end‐stage organ failure. Despite improvements in short term outcome, long‐term survival remains suboptimal because of the morbidity and mortality associated with long term use of immunosuppression. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are heterogeneous cell populations with promising therapeutic potentials in regenerative medicine. The therapeutic values of MSC in various clinical situations have been reported. Salsolinol induced apoptotic changes in neural stem cells: Amelioration by neurotrophin support.
In this study we explored the toxicity of SAL toward NSCs focusing on apoptosis and status of PI3K survival signaling. NSCs cultured from embryonic day 11 rat fetal brain including those differentiated to TH(+ve) colonies, when challenged with SAL (1-100μM), elicited a concentration and time dependent cell death/loss of mitochondrial viability. 10μM SAL on which significant mitochondrial impairment initiated was further used to study mechanism of toxicity.
