Mental health nurse prescribing: using a constructivist approach to investigate the nurse–patient relationship
In this study clients and other stakeholders from one National Health Service Foundation Trust were interviewed or participated in a focus group regarding their experiences of nurses prescribing medication.
Clients in this study believed that nurse prescribing was working well and they were satisfied having their medication prescribed by their nurse. Nurse prescribers believed that their prescribing was well received by their clients and by other professionals.

Third case of novel coronavirus infection identified in family cluster
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) can confirm a third case of novel coronavirus infection in a family cluster, following the confirmed diagnosis of two cases announced earlier this week. The patient, who is a UK resident and does not have any recent travel history, is recovering from a mild respiratory illness and is currently well. This latest case brings the total number of confirmed cases globally to 12, of which four have been diagnosed in the UK.

‘Patients at risk’ from doctors’ working hours
According to research commissioned by the GMC, some doctors may still be working nearly 100 hours a week during their busiest shifts - increasing the potential for mistakes.The study, based on the views of 82 trainee doctors, found that while the regulations had led to fewer hours, it had also produced more shift work, leaving some doctors suffering fatigue and acknowledging that there were times when they performed poorly.

Importance of finger prick tests in managing type 1 diabetes
This reminder is an outcome of an all-party parliamentary group meeting with health minister Anna Soubry.
Diabetes UK and many others have expressed considerable concern that people with type 1 diabetes are not always being prescribed enough finger prick glucose testing strips to monitor their blood glucose. This means those affected cannot adjust their insulin during the day or do safety checks.
