Enzyme Kinetics

Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this is on the PCAT but I heard you needed to know enzyme kinetics pretty well for pharm school. My question is about the Michaelis Menten eq. For Km, I understand that it is a constant that dictates an enzyme's affinity towards a substrate, and that Km = rate of the breakdown of enzyme-substrate complexes divided by the rate of enzyme-substrate formation. But when more enzyme is added, why is there no change in Km?
I'm confused bc if you add more enzyme, wouldn't there be more formation of enzyme-substrate complex?
Thank you.

Yes, I'm non-traditional. I graduated in 2006 with a BA in music, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. Owned my own business for three years, which has been one of the most eye-opening learning experiences imaginable for me.
I also worked for four years after college in medical billing at our local EMS service. It was first and foremost a job in billing and insurance. I'm well-versed in insurance practices, Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs, etc., which I find to be a great asset. I also got to intera...

I need an immunofluorescence scope for skin direct immunofluorescence studies. I have noticed Chinese scopes at 1/3 to 1/2 of Japanese brands. The pricing is reminiscent of Japanese brands versus German brands 30 years ago.

I was wondering how medical schools perceive classes taken over intersession? I like to take my gen-ed classes over intersession because my university offers the classes online, the classes only take about 3 weeks, and intersession classes are usually a lot easier than the class during the Spring/Fall semesters.
The classes show up on my transcript as the exact same credit as if I had taken it over a Spring or Fall semester and it does not show that I took the class online. However, it is labeled as its own semester on the transcript.
Just wondering how many people take advantage of the intersession semesters (if your ...

Has anyone worked at a place where you spend the first part of your shift(5-6hrs) seeing higher acuity patients, and the second part of your shift seeing lower acuity patients(4-5hrs)?
How is it setup at your shop? Does it work well to get out on time and minimize signout? Or have you found it can keep the less acute patients waiting longer because you are tied up managing your prior patients?
This is assuming you are staying in the same patient care area, ie no separate fast track.
Thanks ahead for any advice or thoughts!

So I've read a lot on here about an upward trend in grades blah blah, this ones a little different:
I'm currently a junior bio major. Freshman year I took Calc 1 & 2 and got a C+ and B+ respectively. Calc 1 just slipped away from me on the final but Calc 2 I really did my best (2nd highest grade in the class he only gave 1 A). This semester I took Stat 515.. I had an A by about 0.5 points before the exam this morning and I'm not feeling too confident about it after taking it. Theres still a slim chance of an A, but more than likely it'll be a B+.
Outside of these three math classes I have a 4.0 (cGPA 3.88). I actual...

In conclusion, I'm feeling bummed out. I feel this was a sham interview. And although I feel I had a substantive discussion with the PD for the most part, I feel that he was bull-****ting me also at times. I've met quite a few PDs and am now getting good at seeing through their crap. The more I think about this experience, the more I alternate between laughter and anger. But honestly, I think I've been hosed.

How competitive am I for PEDS? What "tier" programs should I be applying to?

Hi!
I have seen a lot of varied opinions regarding the competitiveness of candidates applying for a residency in pediatrics. So I decided to just get straight to the point, post my stats, and ask what "tier" of programs I seem to be competitive for. Should I avoid the top 3? What about the top 25?
Step 1: 235
- 1 paper published, middle author, BEFORE medical school
- 1 research experience with presentation, DURING medical school, no publication. Was basic science.
- President of an interest group (not pediatrics)
- 3 community service (includes a pediatrics clinic and giving vaccinations to kids)
- 2 teaching ...

This is my first post and I really need some advice here. Thanks in advance!
I just completed my first semester as a sophomore (cumulative GPA before this semester was a 3.5). I was doing extremely well in calculus 2 getting A's on my first two exams, but however was suffering in organic chemistry.
It was my orgo professor's first time teaching at a university and it was absolute horror (The original professor that I signed up for decided to give the new professor the time-slot). There were no curves, she could not explain anything clearly for students to understand, etc. So I ended up devoting the rest of my study time t...

So I started working at a new hospital, and they told me that there was a no texting policy and that I would get written up for texting since they said it was a HIPAA violation.
At my old hospital, we had to use Tigertext which is HIPAA compliant. For my new job, cant I tell them that I use HIPAA compliant texting and they should make an exception for me?
Is it better to go to IT, and show the tigertext and see if they will get it for everyone, or is it better to go to my boss with this?

I am a mature EU citizen interested in a 4 year graduate entry medicine course in UK. I am a bit confused about funding so I would like to ask you some questions. I read online that students in this course are paying directly only 3000-4000 pounds the first year and the rest are covered by bursaries and student loans. Is this accurate, because elsewhere I read that there's no funding for students taking a second undergraduate degree (which would be the case for all graduate entry medicine students)? Moreover, as a non British EU citizen am I entitled for this sort of funding as well or do I need to pay all fees for the 4 y...
