Pre-human med looking into vet
Hello all, I'm a 19 year old junior studying exercise science and I have had the goal of medicine for quite a while now. Lately I've been questioning my interest in human medicine as humans, while I love my fellow person, do not inspire my emotions and drive the way animals do. I'm beginning to fear that my motivations for that field might be materialistic deep down inside. For as long as I can remember I've loved animals. Most kids watched cartoons, I watched National Geographic and read zoology texts (I'm sure this in common with a lot of you!). I honestly feel like I understand animals more than I understand humans half...

MD Failed College Algebra
Okay so I know I am going to fail college algebra this semester there are no two ways around it and I'm totally bummed it's mostly my fault but the professor is also not good at all at what he does. Hence, he's not getting rehired after only 4 semesters at my university. Anyways, I carried a 4.0 (concurrent enrollment about 18 hours in non-science courses in English 1 & 2, Sociology, Psychology, US Government ) to my university and earned a 3.4 last semester grades as follow Zoology - A Zoology Lab -A Foundations of Life Science - B Foundations of Life Science Lab - B Math in the Modern World - B This left me with a 3...

Zoology?!?? for DAT prerequisite or Invertebrate Biology?!?!?
Hey what do you guys think about taking those courses as a prerequisite for the DAT or even Botany. Do you guys have any sources like youtube videos or lectures online that will help in the study of this stuff or should I stick with Campbells for all that info. Best "review" book for biology?
My school doesn't offer biology 1 & 2, only zoology and botany as equivalents. I've already taken zoology and it has nothing to do with what I see on sample MCAT questions. I'm going to take one or two upper level bio classes (cell bio and something else) before I graduate to meet the requirements for medical school admissions. However I won't be able to take these classes before the MCAT. My schedule is something like: MCAT summer 2011, upper level bios fall 11/spring 12, apply to med school the summer of 2012, graduate winter 2012. Scheduling like this sucks because I won't have bio done before the MCAT, but it giv...

Vet Interview(not for school acceptance)
I just have a few questions that I needed to ask a vet or vet student for an assignment. I am studying to become a zoological vet and am required to ask these few questions to someone who is already in the profession. What is the most rewarding thing about being a vet? What is a typical day like? What is the most challenging thing about being a vet? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

Would it be overkill to thin my course load further?
I suppose this is a little unfounded, but my adviser likes to scare me. A lot. He said my schedule for next year looks good, but he's worried about the load and wants me to take an additional summer (already planning on one) of classes to further lighten my load. If I have to keep chipping away at the number of credits and don't take a regular amount, how would I possibly be able to handle DS? On the surface, it doesn't sound too bad... Fall: micro, 5 crd; orgo 1, 4 crd; bio 2, 4 crd (schedule was lopsided, taking bio 1 this spring and a bio lab in summer); 1 crd seminar Winter: orgo 2, 4 crd; bio 3, 4 crd; medical bacte...

Which Biology course should I take? Nurse working towards med school.
Hello everyone I am 23 currently a Registered Nurse of two years employed in the Medical Intensive Care Unit of a Mid-Sized hospital. After much thought, I have decided I want to take the long journey to become a Doctor. I have my BSN and a GPA of 3.85 with a Honors Degree. Currently I need to go back to school as a post bachelors and take some med school pre requisites to start my path to med school. Besides the gen eds and your typical nursing courses I have taken chemistry, statistics, anatomy and physiology for a full year, biorganic chemistry, pathophysiology, and microbiology. So for med school I need to take 2 physi...

Anyone trying to decide between MD and DVM?
I'm a nontrad doing my prereqs right now. I originally wanted to be an MD, but the idea of becoming a vet occasionally wafts into my thoughts. I love animals and am a lot less grossed out by their blood, guts and poop than I am by human stuff (I saw a woman collapsed on the street with blood dribbling out of her mouth last week and I am still sick to my stomach about it). I like it how animals' health problems are not due to poor and self-destructive choices (you know what I mean!). I also just really like the students and professors I've encountered at my school who are zoologists/interested in zoology compared to all th...
