Conclusion:
In an attempt to break down interdisciplinary silos, a CoP and interdisciplinary seminar were created. Trainee organizers benefited from an educational context that embodied adult-learning theory and promoted lifelong learning. The unique seminar that was created continues to promote a community sense of learning and practice. Outcome measures are currently being used to objectively measure these efforts.
Conclusion:
The core steps in PBL are the following: presentation of the initial problem; discussion of the problem, and development of learning objectives; independent learning focused on the objectives; and discussion, exploration of new ideas, and discovery of solutions in the reconvened group. Different from the traditional teacher's role, the PBL tutor is an active facilitator who guides learners to identify issues and ways to learn, rather than a "content expert" who provides facts.
Conclusion:
Teaching psychosomatic medicine, using PBL and role-playing, allows many of the proposed Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine residency core competencies to be met. However, further refinement of the PBL method needs to take place in order to adapt its use to residency programs. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

Conclusions:
Results reveal that training on FASDs is inadequate. Psychiatry trainees poorly understand the importance of abstinence throughout pregnancy. Trainees who report receiving supervision specifically addressing FASDs also report making the diagnosis much more frequently, suggesting that supervision in clinical settings is effective teaching. Results reveal that FASDs are underrecognized, resulting in missed opportunities for prevention and intervention. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

Conclusion:
CAP clerkship interest, but not participation, was associated with Psychiatry and Pediatrics residency matches. CAP clerkship interest among clerks presents recruitment and educational opportunities; a recruitment opportunity for clerks heading toward a Psychiatry residency, and an educational opportunity for clerks heading toward a Pediatrics residency.
Conclusion:
The mental health literature in this area is limited and dated. Implications for practice are drawn inferentially from the general-practice literature. Recommendations for increasing the consent rate include building a relationship with patients before asking them for videotaping and, when asking, explaining the educational value and specific purpose of the recording.
Psychiatric Residents' Needs for Education About Informed Consent, Principles of Ethics and Professionalism, and Caring for Vulnerable Populations: Results of a Multisite Survey [ORIGINAL ARTICLES]

Conclusion:
Psychiatric residents at seven diverse U.S. training programs expressed the need for greater educational attention to issues around informed consent, ethical and professional principles, and treating vulnerable populations. These findings reflect the ongoing need for educators to devote curricular attention to these areas so that trainees can incorporate such knowledge effectively into their daily clinical practice in an always-complex, highly fragmented medical care environment.
Conclusions:
Leading departments of psychiatry in the United States have extremely strong research divisions. The research enterprise brings a critical academic identity to the institution and a stronger reputation and differentiates the department within the health-delivery system. However, for a department developing a research program, the frontline clinicians, staff, and students may see research as an imposition on patients and a distraction from the perceived primary mission, and they may be concerned about how they will be perceived as the institution changes its identity.
Conclusion:
Residency training programs should attempt to incorporate measures that would help boost the social support and acculturation of international medical graduates (especially junior-level trainees). Acculturation could be improved by language training and courses in American history, culture, and customs, and social support could be expanded by mentoring relationships.
CONCLUSION: Narrative writing effectively fostered empathy in a PGY-1 psychiatric resident working with severely and persistently mentally ill patients. This exercise also fostered understanding of countertransference and improved psychiatric history-taking skills. Psychiatry training programs may want to consider incorporating narrative writing exercises into their curriculum. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

CONCLUSION: Psychiatrists are uniquely positioned for helping to prevent firearm suicides and homicides among the mentally ill. However, psychiatric residency programs are inadequately training residents and thereby keeping them from maximizing their roles as mental health professionals. Leadership is needed by APA to help reduce firearm violence in the United States. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

CONCLUSION: Psychiatrists deal with complex emotional issues and are alert to subtle emotional cues. They gather detailed histories, screen thoroughly for psychopathology, and consider the importance of interpersonal relationships. These attributes are potentially valuable when psychiatrists assist other specialists in addressing patients’ sexual health. Psychiatrists with additional training in sexuality may be particularly adept in educating colleagues from other specialties. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

CONCLUSION: More needs to be done nationally to prepare psychiatric residents to assess and treat sexual disorders, concerns, and problems. Curricular efforts need not require a sexuality expert. Existent faculty should be encouraged to develop their institution’s initial approach, which inevitably will evolve toward greater comprehensiveness. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

CONCLUSION: The model sexual health curricula, licensing exams, and guidelines from professional organizations mainly focus on the pathological aspects of sexuality. Student physicians should master fundamental information on healthy sexual function and become familiar with the roles of practitioners in various therapeutic disciplines in addressing sexual concerns and enhancing patients’ sexual functioning and well-being. Instruction should also address ways to incorporate this important topic in time-limited interactions with patients. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

CONCLUSION: The large size of the University of Toronto psychiatry program may make this curriculum difficult to generalize to smaller training sites. The use of online modules, collaboration between programs, or individual teaching electives may be other ways of implementing a teaching to teach program. Overall, our curriculum was well-received by trainees and they felt better prepared to take on the role of teacher after participating. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)

CONCLUSION: Service requirements were not compromised and highly valuable educational objectives were achieved for both the PGY-4 teaching residents and the PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents whom they taught. An intensive teaching rotation for senior residents who teach junior residents and medical students is an effective way to deal with systemic changes in psychiatric education.
CONCLUSION: During video game play, the therapist may observe thought processes, impulsivity, temperament, decision-making, and sharing, among other aspects of a child’s clinical presentation. Several features inherent to video games require a thoughtful approach as resistance and transference in therapy may be elaborated differently in comparison to more traditional toys. Familiarity with the video game content and its dynamics benefits child mental health clinicians in their efforts to help children and their families. (Source: Acad Psychiatry)
