Comparing the Eyes Depicted in Japanese Portraits of Beautiful Women: The Meiji and Modern Periods

Conclusions The results of the study support the notion that Westernization contributed to bringing about changes in the Japanese standards
of beautiful eyes in the context of bijin-ga. However, the fact that the changeover has not occurred in all the categories in question does not indicate that the Occidental
characteristics came to be emulated in their entirety.

Conclusion A new technique for gluteal reduction that effectively reduces, tightens, and reshapes the buttocks is presented. Patient
acceptance of this surgery is very high because unlike previous gluteal reduction techniques, this procedure leaves well-concealed
scars that can be hidden even with the small type of swimsuits used currently.

Conclusions Paranasal flaps were used for effective reconstruction of lower eyelid retraction or ectropion, with achievement of good eyelid
function and a good color, contour, and texture match with the surrounding skin. Overall, the functional and cosmetic results
were satisfactory.

Abstract In the vast majority of cases, precise symmetric reconstruction of maxillofacial defects remains an unsolved problem for craniofacial
surgeons. Computer-designed alloplastic implants have contributed considerably to improvement in the accuracy and reliability
of facial rehabilitation, rapidly becoming an irreplaceable part of the surgical armamentarium. In recent years, the subsequently
developed new generation of computational technologies has allowed planning to be done by preoperative “mirroring” using the
healthy side as a template to fabricate an ideal prosthesis for reestablishment of facial symmetry. Two cases of facial defects
are reported, one of the midface and another of the lower face reconstructed using a computer-designed polyetheretherketone

This report describes a 28-year-old Caucasian woman with a perfectly
formed breast together with a meningocele in the lumbar region. Kyphoscoliosis and growth retardation were accompanying pathologies.
As far as the authors can discern, this is the first case in the literature showing a well-formed breast and dysraphism occurring
together.

Conclusion At 6 months after surgery, 19% of patients are expected to have experienced a complication. There appears to be few differences
in outcomes between the techniques of breast reductions used, and the success or otherwise almost certainly relates to factors
independent of surgical technique and includes patient selection, operative skill, and experience. Time-to-event analysis
provides a precise assessment and description of the complication profile.

Conclusion The results of this experimental study showed that acellular dermis (AlloDerm®) or solvent-dehydrated pericardium (Tutogen) may be used successfully as an “onlay” graft for dorsal nasal problems compared
to autogenous cartilage, which is commonly used for this purpose. There has been more cartilage resorption than thought. This
should be considered when overcorrection is performed.

implants should be used with caution in these patients.

We report such a case after an otherwise uncomplicated rhinoplasty. After reviewing
the other nine reported cases of Tapia’s syndrome, we found that half of the patients had undergone rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty.
The risk factors, etiology, clinical course, recovery potential, and preventive measures are analyzed and discussed. Although
Tapia’s syndrome after rhinoplasty/septorhinoplasty appears to be rare, it should be considered by both the anesthetist and
the plastic surgeon, and most importantly, special attention should be paid to preventive strategies.

Abstract The reconstruction of the auricle is aesthetically very demanding. Various techniques have been used depending on the defect
size, the defect location, and tissue involved. For better wound control and result predictability, we developed an anteriorly
pedicled retroauricular flap. We used this modified double-full-thickness skin graft in three patients. This anteriorly pedicled
flap provides a visible wound surface which makes wound dressing easy. The aesthetic outcome is good and predictable. No major
complications were encountered during surgery or the healing phase. All patients were satisfied with the outcome. The described
method offers a good option for reconstructing larger auricular defects with local tissue.

Conclusion Persistent malar bags resulting from previous blepharoplasty may be difficult to correct with conventional treatment. The
combination of liposuction and suspension of the orbicularis oculi is proposed as an efficient alternative for the correction
of persistent malar bags.

Conclusions With this technique recurrent breast ptosis can be prevented in mastopexy and breast reduction procedures. The results are
such that it eliminates the need for silicone prostheses to obtain satisfactory upper-breast fullness. The surgical technique
is especially indicated in patients with skin of poor quality or patients with high expectations.

Conclusion We believe that with respect to posture, the role played by psychological aspects is even more important than that played
by changes in body mass. Indeed, hypomastia is often associated with kyphosis because patients try to hide what they consider
a deficiency. Following breast augmentation, the discovery of new breasts overcomes the dissatisfaction with the patient’s
own body image, increases self-esteem, and modifies posture regardless of the changes in body mass due to the insertion of
the implants.

Abstract As plastic surgeons, it has always been our goal to reduce the scarring associated with facial plastic surgeries. These scars
generally occur on the scalp and in both the pre- and retroauricular areas. In 194 of our patients who underwent rhytidoplasties,
we successfully eliminated these retroauricular and preauricular scars. To achieve these results, we did not make periauricular
incisions; instead, we made a superior incision, a subcutaneous dissection, and used various surgical maneuvers such as subdermal
plication and structural grafting. By utilizing this facelift technique, we were able to eliminate the appearance of periauricular
scars associated with facial plastic surgery, reduce complications, achieve natural-looking results, and increase patient

This study compares complication rates in
200 SF-placed implants with 83 SM implants, undertaken over a 51-month period by a single surgeon. No statistical difference
was found in the complication rate or patient satisfaction of one technique over the other. No clinical advantage can be demonstrated
by placing breast prostheses behind the pectoral fascia compared to directly behind the breast.

Abstract With adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) at the forefront of research and potential clinical applications, it is important that
clinicians be able to distinguish them from the fat grafting currently used clinically and to understand how the two approaches
relate to one another. At times, there has been confusion in clinically considering the two therapies to be the same. This
report is aimed at distinguishing clearly between fat grafting and ASC therapy with regard to the indications, harvesting,
processing, application techniques, outcomes, and complications. Findings have shown that autologous fat transfer, a widely
used procedure for soft tissue augmentation, is beneficial for reconstructive and cosmetic procedures used to treat patients

This report presents
a rare case involving giant lipoma of the breast that compromised most of the mass of the breast. After resection, the remaining
breast was reshaped using multiple dermaglandular flaps to restore the breast mound, and contralateral breast mammaplasty
was performed for symmetry. This case is a good illustration of the oncoplastic reconstruction options available after wide
local excision.

Conclusion The study aimed to observe the effects of the new technique in the treatment of localized fat associated with cellulite in
order to assess adipose tissue alterations, cellular apoptosis, and levels of serum lipid or liver markers. The findings show
that the action of Ice-Shock Lipolysis is a safe, effective, and well-tolerated noninvasive procedure for body contouring.
In particular, the authors believe that this could be an ideal alternative to liposuction for patients who require only small
or moderate amounts of adipose tissue and cellulite removal or are not suitable candidates for surgical approaches to body
contouring.

Conclusion Transaxillary muscle-splitting breast augmentation, a novel approach to a technique that has been described previously, provides
consistent, satisfactory results and good reproducibility. This new approach provides an excellent anatomic final appearance
with no risk of displacement, rippling, double-bubble deformity, or contracture-associated deformities. Furthermore, this
technique avoids any visible scars on the breast and features a low complication rate.

Conclusions The use of MDCT provides insight into the detailed changes associated with aging that take place within the lower eyelids.
This study objectively demonstrated that the major factors associated with baggy eyelids include orbicularis oculi muscle
thickness, orbital fat prolapse length, and age. Decreased orbicularis oculi muscle thickness leads to the orbital fat prolapse.

Conclusion The Mitek suture anchor is an excellent tool for lateral canthoplasty in patients with significant periorbital scarring or
suboptimal canthal positioning after multiple cosmetic surgery procedures. It is also a good option for patients with significant
soft tissue damage owing to prior surgery, radiation, or trauma in the periorbital field. This technique can be performed
quickly through small incisions and requires only a small amount of stable bone for tendon fixation. Results are excellent
and the procedure has proven to be safe and effective in our series of patients.

Conclusion Extended abdominoplasty is a safe procedure with highly satisfactory results that should become common practice in plastic
surgery. There is a group of patients who are best served by this procedure and a new classification system of the abdominal
contour deformities that includes these patients is needed and is proposed by the authors.

Conclusion Nasal reconstruction using a pericraniosubgaleal flap is one of the most reliable surgical options for treating skin-involving
nasal paraffinomas. The advantage of such a method is that a well-vascularized and durable flap, which is resistant to infection,
is wrapped over the sculpted nasal implant in a single step. It also reinforces the thinned skin, which makes it easier to
form various shapes, producing excellent cosmetic results. Finally, it can also serve as a tolerable graft bed in the case
of overlying skin loss.

Conclusions Prineo™ enables the surgeon to perform a quick and smooth skin closure, especially in long incisions frequently encountered
in excisional body-contouring surgery. The application is fast and easy if basic guidelines are respected. Operating time
is saved by eliminating the need for time-consuming intracutaneous running sutures. Removal is easy and painless for the patient.
However, there is a potential for local allergic adverse effects of which the surgeon must be aware.

Conclusion Our results indicate that Q10 does not improve preadipocyte viability. Preadipocyte cell death induced by lidocaine is not
caused by apoptosis but by necrosis, which cannot be prevented by coenzyme Q10. These findings should be taken into account
when searching for solutions to improve preadipocyte viability in the context of soft tissue engineering and autologous fat
transfer.

Conclusions The reverse nasal SMAS-perichondrium flap is a new flap. The results presented here are not long term; however, the preliminary
results are promising. The flap should be avoided in cases of thin skin, or at least be used with caution, whereas in thick
skin cases it is very safe. Further studies in larger groups are required to better define the advantages and disadvantages
of this flap.

Abstract Templates and sizers are used as tools to assist in the design and construction of both structural and artistic works. These
templates and sizers are used frequently in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. The use of a template to assist
with construction of cartilage grafts in rhinoplasty allows the surgeon to sculpt by replicating the template model. Templates
and sizers are useful and advantageous tools in the rhinoplasty operation.

Abstract Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) filler is widely used for the correction of wrinkles because of its relative long-lasting cosmetic
improvements and the rarity of reported complications. However, early and delayed complications, ranging from minor to severe,
can occur following PMMA filler injection. We evaluated and treated 13 cases of PMMA filler-related complications that were
referred to our institution from July 2005 to June 2010. Of these patients, 92.3% were female and 7.7% were male. Complications
were roughly classified as (1) nodular masses, (2) inflammation, (3) allergic reactions, and (4) discoloration. Affected locations
were the lips, periocular wrinkles, nasolabial folds, forehead, marionette wrinkles, and cheeks. As there is no standard treatment

A Comprehensive Screening, Education, and Training Tool for the Psychological Assessment of Patients Seeking Aesthetic Surgery: “DESIRABLE OP?”

Abstract Patients may seek aesthetic surgery for many reasons. They may present with expectations for both the surgical outcome and
the impact that their changed appearance will have on their lives. The desire for an aesthetic procedure is usually driven
by increased levels of self-consciousness. The surgeon must be able to identify those patients where the psychological outcome
of aesthetic surgery is likely to be poor, and where the self-consciousness of the patient is abnormal. A mnemonic (DESIRABLE
OP) is presented with the aim of providing surgeons with a screening tool that can lead them through the psychological assessment
of any patient seeking an aesthetic procedure and enable them to determine whether its undertaking constitutes a desirable
operation?

DIEP Flap Donor Site Versus Elective Abdominoplasty Short-term Complication Rates: A Meta-analysis

Conclusions This meta-analysis reveals that DIEP donor-site complication rates were comparable to those in elective abdominoplasty, and,
the rate of seroma in DIEP is an even lower than that of one of the most performed procedures in plastic surgery. We argue
that patients presenting for a DIEP flap should be informed about this interesting comparison.

Conclusions These three new cases and the review of 43 cases reported in the literature call attention to the clinical features of carcinomas
arising in the context of rhinophyma, raising further concerns about the possible association between these two entities.
The need for histologic examination of all surgically removed tissue in patients with rhinophyma is highlighted. Several macroscopic
changes, including ulceration, drainage, and a rapid growth pattern, should alarm the physician and should be considered as
suspicious of a malignant degeneration. Unexpected clinical modifications of a preexisting long-lasting silent rhinophyma
could indicate the possibility of hidden malignancy rather than a rhinophyma itself. Although evidence of an association between

Conclusion The data showed that the “blue-eyes stereotype” does exist. People consider blue eyes attractive, but in reality, blue is
rated as attractive as other iridal colors. Bright scleral color and large pupils positively affect attractiveness because
both features are significantly correlated with youthfulness.

Conclusion The ROE questionnaire is a tool for evaluating the outcomes of different surgical indications for correcting nasal deformities.
The kind of surgical procedure had no influence on the mean difference between pre- and postoperative satisfaction scores.
By using this tool we found that the younger age group reported lower postoperative satisfaction scores than older patients.

This report presents a preliminary study investigating the effects of large-volume liposuction on the parameters that determine
type 2 diabetes. The study enrolled 31 patients with a body mass index (BMI) exceeding 30 kg/m2 over a 1-year period. All the liposuction procedures were performed with the patient under local anesthesia using ketamine/valium
sedation. Pre- and postoperative blood pressure, fasting glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C), weight, and BMI were evaluated
for 16 of the 30 patients who returned for a follow-up visit 3 to 12 months postoperatively. The average aspirate was 8,455 ml
without dermolipectomy and 5,795 ml with dermolipectomy. The data reveal a trend of improvement in blood sugar levels associated

This report describes a 42-year-old
woman with TTP after prophylactic usage of cefuroxime axetil in relation to a liposuction procedure who was treated successfully
with plasma exchange and VCR. The patient fully recovered after 17 TPEs and three doses of VCR. At this writing, her TTP still
is in remission after 6 months of follow-up evaluation. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report in the literature
describing a patient with TTP after cefuroxime axetil administered in relation to a surgical procedure who was treated successfully
with TPE and VCR.

Simultaneous Augmentation Mastopexy: A Technique for Maximum En Bloc Skin Resection Using the Inverted-T Pattern Regardless of Implant Size, Asymmetry, or Ptosis

Conclusions The described technique maximizes the amount of tissue to be resected in simultaneous augmentation mastopexy for moderately
to severely ptotic breasts. Symmetry is more easily achieved with this approach regardless of the implant size used or the
amount of skin to be resected. This technique minimizes the chance of tissue necrosis from devascularized skin edges. It also
may shorten the inverted T scar and reduce the operative time.

This report
aims to describe a procedure for deactivating these bands using a percutaneous approach that eliminates the need for submental,
cutaneous incision and dissection. This technique involves the use of a steel wire loop that encircles the platysma band and
is connected to a device known as the platysmotome through two puncture holes in the skin. Three to six sections along each
band eliminate the platysma band, leaving no visible marks on the skin. This method is indicated as an isolated procedure
for patients with visible platysma bands and no skin flaccidity, patients with recurring bands after face-lifting and no cervical
skin flaccidity, patients who have bands with little cervical skin flaccidity but do not care to undergo face-lifting, and
patients who undergo face-lif...

This article aims to describe bilateral
liponecrotic pseudocysts after injection of fat into the breast. A 42-year-old woman presented with palpable indurations and
pain with pressure. She also showed abnormalities on her breast cancer screening. The woman underwent mammography, magnetic
resonance imaging, and pathologic confirmation to evaluate the breast abnormalities. These radiologic examinations were consistent
with liponecrotic pseudocysts on both sides. Bilateral lumpectomies were performed through an inframammary approach. Histologic
examination of the specimens showed fat necrosis and dystrophic calcification. Autologous fat grafting to the breast is not
a simple procedure and should be performed by well-trained and skilled plastic surgeons. During the surgery, caution shoul...

Conclusions Anthropometric analysis suggests differences between the Indian female nose and the North American white nose. Thus, a single
aesthetic ideal is inadequate. Noses of Indian women are smaller and wider, with a less projected and rounded tip than the
noses of white women. This study established the nasal anthropometric norms for nasal parameters, which will serve as a guide
for cosmetic and reconstructive surgery in Indian women.

Abstract Over a 5-year period, my technique of approaching and modifying the aging neck has changed from direct suturing of the medial
platysma bands and strong posterior traction of the platysma to superior elevation of the posterior platysma and strong fixation
to the tympanoparotid fascia. When indicated, redundant anterior platysmal bands are resected instead of approximated. Evaluation
of these anterior bands preoperatively for thickness and degree of descent allows more precise decision-making regarding the
need to resect redundant and excessively thick or long anterior platysmal bands. The added advantage of the strong fixation
of the platysma in a vertical fashion to Loré’s fascia (the tympanoparotid fascia) leads not only to an improvement in the
contour of the...

Conclusion Prophylactic mastectomy is becoming an increasingly frequent procedure. Plastic surgeons should consider the aesthetic outcome
when planning mastectomy and reconstruction. Our ability to predict the high-risk population has improved and it is that population
who can get the best benefit from this intervention. The recommendation against subcutaneous prophylactic mastectomy lacks
scientific evidence. There is plenty of evidence that prophylactic mastectomy lowers the risk of breast cancer in the high-risk
population in at least 95%. Our experience with prophylactic mastectomy is extremely satisfactory, with an overall patient
satisfaction rate of 94%, no mortality, and an oncologic long-term outcome of 0% of ulterior development of breast cancer.

Conclusions The results of this clinical evaluation support the use of the soluble hCCM produced under embryonic-like conditions to accelerate
wound healing after laser resurfacing procedures. The utility of the × 10 concentration appears to promote more rapid, scarless
wound healing after resurfacing procedures and more normal skin recovery.

Conclusions The evaluation of aesthetic damage is a tricky question due to different aspects such as the psychological component or the
frequent lack of adequate photographic documentation of the patient before the operation. Moreover, whenever possible reduction
of the damage is proposed, the patient’s willingness to undergo another operation, with all its related costs and benefits,
must be considered.

Abstract Injectable polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG) is a jelly-like transparent implant used in breast augmentations. This type of implant
had been used since 1998, but its use was prohibited in China in 2006 due to numerous complications that had arisen from its
use. In one case, a rare appearance of PAAG tissue degeneration was observed 7 years after an injectable breast augmentation

Abstract The growing phenomenon of patients seeking medical procedures abroad (MPA), formerly known as a medical tourism, is discussed.
The dark side of the trend is exemplified by the tragic case of a 31-year-old Swedish woman who upon seeing a web advertisement

modern hospital depicted in the ad. As a result of the grave mistakes in anesthetic care and lack of a postoperative recovery
routine, the patient sustained severe brain injury because of prolonged hypoxia. Now, 6 months after the fateful operation,
the patient is decorticated and has only vegetative functioning of the left side of the brain. Firm managers, who do not have

Conclusion This is the first such report on performing chemical analysis of a leaked injected gel from human breast implantation. The
removed gel from the breast augmentation was revealed to be prolamin, which is a cereal seed storage protein. We think FTIR
might be a useful tool for analyzing and confirming extracted materials that were previously injected to the body.

Conclusion The hatchet-skin flap procedure is a versatile technique for the repair of medium defects in the three parts of the cheek.
The defects in each part of the cheek should be repaired separately depending on the characteristics of the natural lines.

Conclusions This technique, which uses the advantages of both subpectoral and subfascial techniques, can offer a high-grade result. Especially
for thin patients with less subcutaneous tissue, it provides excellent upper and lower pole coverage and gives the shape of
the breast a natural appearance, with no palpability or rippling.

Conclusion After the L short-scar mammaplasty, breast sensitivity to pressure in most cases returns to preoperative levels or improves
primarily in those with larger breasts. The data of this prospective study contradict the misconception that mammaplasty techniques
with resections at the breast base leave the patient with reduced breast sensitivity because the fundamental neural pathways,
such as the lateral neurovascular pedicle, are preserved.

Conclusion The rehabilitation obtained with a megafilling session and further touch-up procedures and that with a gradual build-up of
the localized soft-tissue loss seem not to have differences in terms of safety for the patients. However, with a megafilling
session satisfaction is achieved earlier and it is possible to reduce hospital costs in terms of gauze, gloves, and other
items.

Conclusions Restoration of facial harmony through aesthetic correction of the ears is a highly satisfying procedure for both patients
and surgeons. Since 1988, the author’s unit has pursued and improved a technique that could provide shorter recovery times,
minimal morbidity, and predictable results for a population consisting primarily of adults. This minimally invasive technique
can achieve these goals with excellent long-term aesthetic outcomes.

Conclusion In case of unexpected breast enlargement after prosthesis implantation, the physician should first rule out infection, then
investigate possible friction irritation from either a fold in the device or rubbing of a textured implant. According to the
authors’ experience and another report, this complication occurs in 1% to 2% of cases. The inclusion of this complication
in the informed consent form should be considered. Long-term studies designed to investigate the underlying causes of late
seroma are warranted for the prevention and treatment of this complication.

Discussion As a typical epidermoid cyst, REIC consists of squamosed stratified epithelial cells that continue to the granular layer.
In most cases, the cyst is filled with a keratin-like material. When this tumor is solid, a histologic evaluation may be necessary.
When the cyst has been excised, the umbilicus gets reconstructed after the abdominoplasty. A history of poor healing in the
umbilicus area may arouse suspicion of an epidermoid cyst. Epidermoid cysts in the region of the umbilicus could easily be
overlooked in preparation of the umbilicus.

Conclusion The described method offers numerous advantages for the treatment of capsular contracture. It is minimally invasive and performed
through a small axillary or submammary incision. It is simple, offers little trauma, has less bleeding, and results in a good
outcome based on our follow-up assessment in the medium term. It is our preferred method for the treatment of capsular contracture.

In conclusion, the modified and accurately designed Z-epicanthoplasty can avoid some complications such

shape in the medial corner can be obtained by developing and accurately designing different types of flaps.

We describe a case of flap necrosis after a reoperation of medial thighplasty. Treatment included debridement of necrotic
tissue and healing of the wound by secondary intention (vacuum-assisted closure and dressings with calcium alginate). Complete
healing was achieved in 4 months. As the patient refused any new procedure, skin grafting was not performed. The aesthetic
results of plastic surgery procedures are often imperfect. Patients should be clearly prepared and informed about the results
expected from the operation. Surgeons should know contraindications for reoperation.

Abstract Autologous fat grafting has been regarded as the ideal soft tissue filler for more than a century. Low long-term retention
rate and unpredictability limit it from widespread clinical practice. Many theories for this have been proposed: lack of sufficient
blood supply and subsequent necrosis is the most accepted. In this pilot study, we showed both macroscopically and microscopically
the viability of muscle-derived stem cells (MDSCs) cotransplanted with fat placed intramuscularly for 3 months. MRI scanning
showed a stronger fat signal in the MDSC-treated group than that of the control group. Moreover, histological evaluation exhibited
well-preserved and intact fat cells in the MDSC-treated group. In contrast, the control group showed extensive fibrosis and

This study aimed to analyze the clinical outcome after frontal bone remodeling with HAC for gender male-to-female reassignment.
The 21 patients in the study were treated for gender reassignment of the male frontal bone using HAC. The average age of these
patients was 33.4 years (range, 21–42 years). The average volume of HAC used per patient was 3.83 g. The authors’ clinical
series demonstrated a satisfactory result. The surgery was easy to perform, and HAC was easy to apply and shape to suit individual
needs. Overall satisfaction was very high. Therefore, HAC is a welcome alternative to the traditional use of autogenous bone
graft for correction of cranial vault irregularities.

Conclusion With the overall acceptance of aesthetic surgery increasing and the number of patients undergoing liposuction increasing,
it is likely that plastic surgeons will see more patients requesting secondary contour surgery in the future. The key to successful
autologous fat grafting is familiarity with the technique, recognizing its limitations, and understanding the goals of the
patient. This study has shown that the patient satisfaction rate observed after autologous fat transplantation produces aesthetically
acceptable results in correcting post liposuction deformities.

This article aims to bring
attention to this disorder and to review the use of Botox injections to treat these patients. Vaginismus, also known as vaginal
penetration disorder, is an aversion to any form of vaginal penetration as a result of painful attempts and a fear of anticipated
pain. It is involuntary and uncontrolled and functions much the same as any reflex to avoid injury. It is the most common
reason for unconsummated marriages. The etiology is thought to be unknown. Numerous papers note a history of religious or
strict sexual upbringing or aversion to penetration because of perceived pain and bleeding with first-time intercourse. Sexual
molestation may be more prevalent in this group of patients. The Lamont classification is very helpful in stratifying these
patients for ...

Conclusion The vertical suture of the rectus abdominis sheaths was stronger than the horizontal suture because of the more transversal
arrangement of its aponeurotic fibers. Thus, routine use of the vertical suture in plications of the aponeurosis of the rectus
abdominis muscles is suggested.

Conclusion Exposure of the entire lateral curs with the use of a medially based composite flap containing most of the lateral crus is
an excellent means to control its shape. Mattress sutures applied to the surface of the cartilage will result in increased
stiffness and strength. The net result is a simple correction of what might otherwise be a complicated problem.

Conclusion The study results imply that the brow does not drop in women with age. It is recommended that in most instances, the lateral
brow should be preferentially elevated, whereas the medial brow should undergo minimal or no elevation. Most patients require
brow reshaping by restoration of the brow apex lateral to the level of the outer corneal limbus. By comparing eyebrow shape
and position in both young and mature women, this study provides objective data that can be used to plan forehead-rejuvenating
procedures in Indian women.

Abstract Delayed hematoma associated with breast implants, whether for reconstructive or aesthetic purposes, is a rare entity. Most
reported cases have been intracapsular. Although several mechanisms for delayed hematoma have been proposed, its exact etiology
and mechanism of formation are not yet fully understood. The authors present a unique case of hematoma formation 5 years after
breast reconstruction with a textured anatomic cohesive gel breast implant. The patient experienced severe thrombocytopenia
secondary to chemotherapy, which most probably was the triggering etiologic factor. The hematoma was both intra- and extracapsular.
The authors speculate that the retrocapsular hematoma component was due to firm adhesion of the textured prosthetic membrane
to the pos...

Conclusion Although the evidence supporting these nonsurgical methods is suboptimal, their uses continue to expand. As with any plastic
surgery procedure, providing patients with realistic expectations is essential to achieving optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Therefore, critical investigation is warranted. In addition, these methods are most effective when included within a comprehensive
skin care regimen consisting of sunscreen, vitamin therapy, and lifestyle modification.

Abstract Autologous fat grafting for breast augmentation has faced some historical hurdles. However, in recent years it has been gaining
acceptance from the medical community. This prospective, nonrandomized open-label study of 20 Japanese women supports the
use of autologous fat grafting in breast augmentation and explores enhancement of fat graft tissue with autologous adipose-derived
regenerative cells (ADRCs). After adipose harvesting using syringe liposuction, the tissue is processed in the Celution 800
System®, which washes the graft and isolates ADRCs. The average cells per gram of harvested adipose tissue was 3.42 × 105, and the mean cell viability measured using an automated cell counting system before graft delivery was 85.3%. All patients

Conclusion This technique is a valid alternative treatment for capsular contracture or malpositioned implant after breast augmentation
surgery. It may be less traumatic than the conventional method of total capsulectomy. In addition, this technique reduces
the relapse rate of capsular contracture significantly compared to a partial capsulectomy or capsulotomy as the new implant
is inserted into a scar tissue‐free environment. Good aesthetic results and patient satisfaction was achieved using this method.
In our experience, this novel technique is a good alternative method of correcting complications of submuscular implant augmentation.

This study evaluated a uniform group of eight paraplegic
patients with sacral decubital ulcers and covered the lesions using gluteal rotation flaps with a deepithelialized tip to
anchor the flap subcutaneously on the contralateral ischial tuber. Initial wound healing and recurrence after one year were
evaluated. All but one flap showed uneventful wound healing, and all the flaps presented without any signs of recurrence or
instability. The authors suggest that sufficient anchoring using a deepithelialized part of the flap helps to integrate and
stabilize sacral rotation flaps.

Conclusion The results of the present study emphasize the high rate of BDD (12.2%) in subjects seeking rhinoplasty. The BICI appears
to be an internally consistent and valid brief multiple-choice instrument for assessing dysmorphic concern. To our knowledge,
this is the first time that this measure has ever been used for identifying BDD patients in a rhinoplasty setting; it is also
the first time that ROC analysis has been used for calculating and analyzing the results of BICI. Our study suggests that
rhinoplasty surgeons could rely on the scores of the BICI to identify subjects with probable BDD among their consultants with
no or one slight defect.

This article briefly reviews the evolution of
individual approaches to treating atrophic acne scarring, followed by case examples illustrating results that can be achieved
using a multimodal approach. Representative cases from patients in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are presented. In the author’s
clinical practice, multimodal approaches incorporating fractionated laser, injectable poly-l-lactic acid, and sub-SMAS face-lift procedures have achieved optimal aesthetic outcomes, high patient satisfaction, and durability
of aesthetic effect over time.

A Novel Autologous Scaffold for Diced-cartilage Grafts in Dorsal Augmentation Rhinoplasty

Conclusion The use of ATG to stabilize diced-cartilage grafts is a safe, reliable technique for dorsal nasal augmentation. The platelet
gel provides growth factors while the fibrin glue creates a scaffold that allows stabilization and diffusion of nutrients
to the cartilage graft.

Staged Stem Cell-enriched Tissue (SET) Injections for Soft Tissue Augmentation in Hostile Recipient Areas: A Preliminary Report

Conclusion These preliminary results suggest that SET is safe and may provide superior results compared to traditional fat grafting.
By performing the procedure in a staged approach, operating room expenses are minimized, which ultimately decreases the cost
of the procedure. Adipose-derived regenerative cells may mitigate early ischemia by increasing angiogenesis, decreasing apoptosis,
and modulating the local inflammatory response. This technique may be of particular value to the surgeon when grafting high
volumes of fat or when faced with hostile recipient area conditions, including fibrosis and post radiation.
