Conclusion Although some studies suggest possible effects of micronutrients on female fertility general recommendations are not possible
since all studies had methodological or statistical limitations. Further investigations using evidence-based criteria are
necessary to analyze and to confirm these non-evident appearances.

Conclusions This study suggests that induction is associated with a higher risk for secondary cesareans and abnormally adherent placentas.
The exact time of induction seems to be irrelevant between expected date of delivery and the next 10 days.

Conclusion PChE activity was not significantly different between the groups. However, there was a positive correlation between PChE and
LDL levels in pregnant women with GD, suggesting that LDL levels in pregnant women with GD may help to predict the risk of
prolonged apnea in situations in which PChE activity cannot be measured.

Conclusion IVF outcomes seem to be unrelated to the time interval between the hysteroscopic polyp resection and the initiation of the
IVF; the success rates may not be superior if the treatment is started in the first few months postoperatively.

Conclusion The learning curve for the total operation time and incision–delivery time reaches a flatter part after 10–15 caesarean sections.
However, the learning process is highly individualised and difficult to predict, so that supervision and evaluation of the
trainee by an experienced surgeon is important.

Conclusions PAX2 is expressed in hyperplastic and malignant endometrium as well as proliferative and atrophic endometrium. As the neoplastic
lesion progresses from a premalignant state to endometrial cancer, PAX2 expression increases. These findings suggest that
PAX2 may contribute to the development of endometrial cancer.

Conclusions Court-ordered obstetrical procedures present an unsettled legal forum in terms of their complex interplay. The awareness of
legal precedent can alert providers to possibility of an exception to the general presumption that the mother is competent,
where it might trigger a legal or ethical council. Screening inventories (covering maternal–fetal attachment, judgmental fitness,
prior obstetrical history, perinatal risk, formal/informal social support) jointly developed by the health providers and lawyers
would assist involved parties in resolving complex situations without resorting to legal conflicts.

Conclusions Weight loss after the diagnosis and treatment of cancer may be an adverse prognostic factor. Although it was impossible to
distinguish between intentional and non-intentional weight loss, these results argue against weight loss for risk reduction
in patients with confirmed endometrial cancer. However, it may be reasonable regarding the risk reduction of non-cancer related
morbidity and mortality. Detailed, prospective randomised trials are warranted.

Abstract
Background Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is associated with adverse fetal and maternal outcome. The role of medication to control
blood pressure (BP) in mild to moderate PIH is controversial.

Aims We conducted a prospective study to investigate whether pharmacological treatment of mild to moderate PIH is effective in
improving maternal and fetal outcomes.

Methods A total of 150 consecutive pregnant women without proteinuria and with physician-recorded systolic BP of 140–160 mmHg and/or
diastolic BP of 90–105 mmHg on two occasions ≥6 h apart between 20 and 38 weeks of gestation were randomly allocated to receive

Conclusion In our study, we suggested that usage of hormone replacement therapy appeared to affect renal functions in postmenopausal
women. There were beneficial effects of HRT on GFR in our postmenopausal patients. HRT may have possible protective mechanisms
for kidney against adverse effects of aging.

Conclusions Expression of placental biomarkers in the early weeks of pregnancy may be influenced by intake of nutrients. Understanding
the influence of maternal nutrient intake and placental development in the 1st trimester may provide the opportunity to avert
the development or blunt the severity of preeclampsia.

Conclusions As for myometrium, the thermal damage is rather small in the horizontal and vertical directions when using BiClamp and PK
scalpel. Ligasure places larger range of thermal damage in horizontal direction with little depth in vertical direction, which
is rather safe when acting on uterine surface. Electrocoagulation was conducted with monopolar (the power is 55 W) and bipolar
forceps (the power is 40 W) continuously for 3 s, whose thermal damage range is fairly safe to corpus uteri wall and fundus
uteri.

We report a case of a vaginal yolk sac tumor in a 5-month-old female infant who presented with short history of bleeding per
vagina. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass occupying most of the vagina that had lobulated outlines and heterogeneous
echo texture. The serum alpha-fetoprotein was elevated, and a biopsy revealed a vaginal yolk sac tumor. The patient was given
six cycles of chemotherapy and continues to be disease-free on follow up. To preserve sexual and reproductive function, we
encourage consideration of chemotherapy as a sole modality to treat this rare tumor.

Conclusion In a rural, low-resource setting in China, one-time VIA/VILI screening detected more than a half of CIN2 cases, most CIN3
cases and all the cervical cancer cases. Detection rates of CIN2 lesions significantly increased with a 1-year follow-up VIA/VILI
screen. Therefore, if multiple cervical cancer screenings are not feasible logistically or financially, a one-time VIA/VILI
may be the most efficient strategy to detect cervical cancer and most CIN3 lesions in women in low-resource settings.

Conclusion Cervical smear seems to be more accurate without gel application. Experience of the physician is also important. Water-based
gel can be used in some women who experience overt pain during speculum examination, but these patients must be warned about
unsatisfactory results and the need of repeat test.

Conclusions Vaginal administration of estradiol is a well known and safe alternative to systemic estrogen therapy, but studies demonstrated
significant increases in plasma concentrations of estradiol. Such observations have also been reported in postmenopausal breast
cancer patients treated with AIs. Further studies are needed to explore risk of breast cancer recurrence after vaginal estrogen
application for patients on adjuvant endocrine therapy with AIs.

Conclusion After completion of this article, the reader should be aware of the symptoms of BOTs, the potential role and pitfalls of tumor
marker measurement. In addition, the reader will understand the appearance of BOTs at imaging techniques; the reader will
be able to compare and combine ultrasonography, MRI and positron emission tomography in diagnosing BOTs. In clinical practice,
the reader should be better able to assess whether an ovarian mass is a benign tumor, a BOT or an invasive cancer.

Conclusion LD COC uptake results in a significant decrease in serum adiponectin concentration, nonsignificant increase in leptin levels
and a more atherogenic lipid profile by significantly increasing LDL and nonsignificantly decreasing HDL concentrations. These
findings suggested that COC may reduce or stimulate the adiponectin and leptin concentrations, respectively. This might be
due to an effect of these pills on adipocyte maturation via inhibition or stimulation of the synthesis of new adiponectin
and leptin molecules or may be a result of the increased frequency of a particular allele of the adiponectin and leptin. It
is suggested that these alterations in adiponectin and leptin concentrations and lipid profiles may be related to their probable
effects in response to...

Conclusions A comprehensive depiction of both late therapy-related toxicity and treatment failure requires precise clinical descriptions
and analyses of the clinical courses. Our new concept to differentiate treatment failure following radiotherapy in cervical
cancer into persistent and recurrent disease permits a clear differentiation between distinct subgroups of patients with regard
to prognosis and clinical presentation and will lead to a more precise description of these cases in the future.

Conclusions In the case reported here, the careful pre-surgical evaluation, the technical expertise and skill of the surgeon, the choice
of a combined approach with laparoscopy and open surgery and the use of modern surgical instruments have enabled us to achieve
a significant result: the preservation of the anatomical integrity of the uterus and adnexa which allowed a successful natural
pregnancy with spontaneous delivery.

Conclusions Endometrial washing by hydrosonography is a simple, minimally invasive, and effective tool to use in the evaluation of cyclical
NO intrauterine production. Nitric oxide concentrations increased during the late proliferative and secretory phase of menstrual
cycle.

Conclusions Our study suggests that both Bishop score and sonographic cervical length can contribute to predicting type of delivery after
labor induction, but cervical length is a better predictor of the risk of cesarean delivery.

Right endometrioma is related with more extensive obliteration of the Douglas pouch

Conclusion Moreover, we also showed that in women with a right endometrioma, incidence of the pouch of Douglas obliteration is higher
and the endometriosis tends to be more severe compared to women with a left endometrioma. Our most relevant observation is
obliteration of Douglas pouch which was found to be more extensive in women with right ovarian endometrioma. Our results showing
left lateral predisposition of endometriomas are in agreement with the previous reports and highlight the retrograde menstruation
theory for the pathogenesis of this enigmatic disorder.

In conclusion, Brenner ovarian tumors are unilateral, small
and benign neoplasms in their majority and present specific histopathological and immunopathological characteristics and mixed
forms with other epithelial and germ cell neoplasms. This could be explained as a form of metaplasia or a diverse histogenesis
from surface epithelium and/or the germ cell ovarian component.

Conclusion The main concern for laparoscopic management of ovarian masses is unexpected malignancy. However, with careful patient selection,
proper technique and an experienced operator, laparoscopic treatment of ovarian masses is the best approach and should be
implemented, with low risk of unexpected malignancy and recurrence.

Conclusion Mothers with short stature were significantly correlated with a higher rate of CPD, even after control of birth weight, parity
and type of attendance. Clinical points could be drawn from this study including (1) definition of short statue must be developed
for particular geographic or ethnic groups. In Thai population, using 145 cm as a cut-off value, odds of CPD is 2.4; (2) Probability
of CPD may be estimated by maternal height as a single variable or multiple variables using logistic regression equations.

Conclusion Active smoking in infertile women is associated with ovarian reserve alteration, as reflected by AFC modification and decreased
serum AMH, and leads to poor prognosis in ART cycles, whatever the stimulation protocol used. Infertile women should be strongly
discouraged from smoking before they start IVF cycles.

Conclusion In this retrospective analysis, the rate of complications for LASH was very low in a hospital of standard care and residency.
LASH has to be considered as a minimally invasive method with a low perioperative morbidity to treat benign uterine pathologies
even in a teaching setting and should therefore be the method of choice if the cervix can be preserved.

Conclusions CCRT using combination chemotherapeutic agents may not have survival advantage over single agent cisplatin-based CCRT. Further
improvement in treatment is needed to increase survival outcomes and to decrease treatment-related toxicities in patients
with stage IVB cervical cancer.

Abstract
Objective We set to estimate the genotype-specific prevalence of human papilloma virus (HPV) and its associated risk factors responsible
among women with normal and abnormal cytology by systematic literature survey.

Methods Reports on HPV prevalence published between 2000 and 2011 were retrieved. To be included, studies required information on
cervical cytology, plus detailed descriptions of study populations, methods used to collect cervical samples, and assays used
for HPV DNA detection and typing. Final analyses included 280 studies of which 120 were included in the final analysis. The
OR, 95% CI and P value were calculated using SPSS 16.0.

Results Overall HPV prevalence in 576,281 women was estimated to be 32.1% (95% CI 3...

Abstract The clinical manifestations of severe endometriosis are variable and unpredictable in both presentation and course. There
are also a proportion of women with severe endometriosis who remain asymptomatic. The treatment of severe endometriosis must
be individualised, taking into account the impact of the disease and treatment on pain, fertility and quality of life. Surgery
is usually required and multiple organs are sometimes involved. Therefore, if endometriosis is severe, referral to a center
with the expertise to offer all available treatments in a multidisciplinary team, including advanced laparoscopic surgery
and laparotomy, is strongly recommended. It is also important to involve the woman in all decisions, to be flexible in diagnostic
and therapeutic thinking...

endocrine mechanism of CoQ10 in the follicular fluid and its correlation with oocyte and embryo development is unclear, a

Bonding in women with postnatal anaemia: a pilot case control study looking at postnatal bonding in women who have been diagnosed with anaemia at a University Hospital in the East of England

Conclusion Our study suggested no evidence of an association between postnatal anaemia and the mother’s ability to bond with the baby;
however a small but significant effect may still exist which we were not able to detect due to a possible lack of power, hence
we suggest, further larger studies to be conducted.

Conclusions Hysterectomy will remain a common gynecological operation in both developing and developed countries. The clinical and the
pathological correlation are poor, when abdominal pain or dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) was the preoperative clinical
diagnosis. However, there was a very high correlation when the clinical diagnosis was a fibroid. All hysterectomy specimens
should be sent for histopathology regardless of the preoperative histopathology of the endometrium.

Conclusion This study reported methylation frequencies for MGMT, RAR-β2 and DAPK1 in normal cytology of the general female population.
The combination of MGMT methylation, cytology and HPV infection is preferable for early detection of CIN2+ in cytology samples.
There was no relationship between MGMT, RAR-β2 and DAPK1 gene methylation and HPV infection.

Conclusions Cervical culture has a low concordance with endometrial culture. In fact in only 33% of cases was the microorganism found
in the cervix the same as that found in the endometrium. These results infer that an endometrial culture is a useful investigative
tool for determining the microorganisms in endometrial pathology.

Abstract Tumor excision and dermal-flap skin graft operations were performed on a 72-year-old woman diagnosed with extramammary Paget's
disease at our hospital in August 2001. Paget cells were identified in the external urethral meatus even though nine local
excisions of recurrent tumors had been performed. She was suffered from severe vesical pain from May 2007. Urine cytology
was class V and physical examination revealed redness in external urethral meatus. Pelvic MRI did not show apparent lymph
node swelling and the endoscopic multiple biopsies performed at multiple bladder mucosa and distal urethra. Pathological diagnosis
of the endoscopic biopsy showed multiple Paget cells from urethra, posterior and bilateral lateral wall, and bladder neck.

Conclusions Shoulder dystocia, associated with macrosomia, labor dystocia, diabetes mellitus, and advanced maternal age, is an independent
risk factor for perinatal mortality. In an era of increased rate of cesarean deliveries, and perhaps increased accuracy of
birth weight estimation, the rate of shoulder dystocia gradually declines.

Timing of antibiotic administration and infectious morbidity following cesarean delivery: incorporating policy change into workflow

Conclusions A multidisciplinary approach was successful in achieving 100% adherence to our institution’s policy change regarding timing
of prophylactic antibiotics. This approach was necessary in order to incorporate this type of change into the labor and delivery
workflow and may serve as a paradigm for success in implementing labor and delivery quality improvement projects. In addition,
administration of prophylactic antibiotics before skin incision resulted in fewer surgical-site infections following cesarean
delivery. As the clinical and economic impact of surgical-site infections is considerable, the once common practice of administering
antibiotics after cord clamping should be avoided.

Skin closure with subcuticular absorbable staples after cesarean section is associated with decreased analgesic use

Conclusions Our results suggest that the use of subcuticular absorbable staples for skin closure at the time of cesarean section may lead
to less in-hospital analgesic use, and thereby positively impact a patient’s post-operative course. In addition, while reduced
analgesic use may represent a small cost savings for each individual patient, there is the potential for significant savings
when one considers the large number of cesarean sections performed in the US annually. Prospective studies will be required
to assess the full impact of the use of this new skin closure technology.

Conclusions We report about the possibility to assist women affected by May-Hegglin anomaly requiring reproductive assistance. However,
a multidisciplinary team composed of gynecologists and hematologists should follow such patients carefully, in order to carry
out a complete clinical evaluation and to prevent the potential risks of bleeding. Clinicians must be vigilant in their presentation
of risks, benefits, and alternatives.

Conclusion To fulfil our duty to provide best possible care for our patients, it is now time to regard adhesions as the most common complication
in surgery. Further research is needed to fully understand adhesion formation and to develop new strategies for adhesion prevention.
Large clinical efficacy trials of anti-adhesion agents will make it easier for surgeons to decide which agent to use in daily
routine.

Conclusions Although prior bariatric surgery is associated with multiple negative maternal and fetal outcomes, it is protective against
infant macrosomia in obese mothers. Our findings support the need for preconception/interconception services tailored for

Discussion To our knowledge, this is the first report wherein MRI was used for the detection of incarcerated omental fat within the uterus.
Delayed presentation of uterine perforation may be observed 1 month or more after D/E&C, although such a finding is extremely
rare. Therefore, postabortal follow-up bimanual vaginal examination using transvaginal ultrasonography is recommended. The
current study indicates the usefulness of MRI when myometrial perforation with or without incarceration of an extrauterine
organ is suspected.

Conclusions Ectopic leiomyomatosis is an uncommon complication after GLM, and does not justify follow-up in all asymptomatic cases. However,
the gynecologists should bear this unusual condition in mind, and inform the patients that leiomyoma fragments can grow in
ectopic sites.

Conclusion Physicians should be aware of transverse vaginal septum in the differential diagnosis of hematocolpos with abdominal pain
and primary amenorrhea in the early adolescent years. Early diagnosis could be based on premenarcheal gynecological examination
and could lead to correct management in order to avoid the complications of endometriosis (dysmenorrhea or infertility).

Conclusions ‘Pure’ LCH of female genital tract without any other spreading is a quite rare disease and it might be misrecognized as some
other diseases, so both gynecologists and pathologists should keep it in mind when encountered with such cases. The three
patients we reported appeared to be the first cases having ‘pure’ lesion of female genital tract in China.

followed by buccal misoprostol is better, buccal misoprostol alone can be used for termination of pregnancy in patients where
mifepristone is either unavailable or contraindicated.

Conclusions In the current study, the probability of ipsilateral tubal obstruction depends on the β-hCG levels. The increase in β-hCG
levels is followed by an enhancement in tubal obstruction risk. Therefore, assessment of the β-hCG may be an effective tool

Abstract Non-invasive first trimester screening for fetal aneuploidy is based on the consideration of fetal nuchal translucency, biochemical
serum markers ‘pregnancy associated plasma protein A’ (PAPP-A), and ‘free beta-humane chorionic gonadotropin’ (fβ-hCG). The
blood sera of 168 pregnant women in 11 + 0 to 13 + 6 weeks of gestation were examined by both the COBAS (Roche Holding GmbH,
Germany) and KRYPTOR (Brahms GmbH, Germany) immunoassay systems in two quality controlled laboratories. The concentration
values were converted into multiple of median (MoM) values and compared through a two-tailed t test. The concentration values of PAPP-A differed significantly from each other (p < 0.0001). COBAS produced on average 0.09 MoM hi...

development of venous side effects. In contrast, levels of endothelial cell-derived microparticles did not differ.

Abstract It is rare to find osteoclastic giant cells (OGCs) as a stromal reaction in uterine adenocarcinoma of endometrium. Here, we
report a case of a 60-year-old female diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of endometrium. Total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy
and removal of pelvic lymphnodes was performed. Histologically, the tumour showed adenocarcinoma of the endometrium with mucin
secretion. The stroma showed some plump reactive pleomorphic cells, resembling stromal cells, infiltrated uniformly with OGCs
and mononuclear cells (MNCs). The epithelial cells of adenocarcinoma stained positive for cytokeratin (CK 7) (CAM 5.2). The
osteoclastic giant cells and mononuclear cells stained positive with CD68 and negative with cytokeratin and vimentin. We conclude
