<description>CONCLUSIONS: Our work is the first report on reference gene selection for RT-qPCR applications in mixed tumors, smooth muscle sarcoma and stromal sarcoma of the uterus. A ranking of candidate genes' stability values for the three types of tumors is provided and might serve as a valuable guide for future gene expression studies of these rare entities.

<title>Evaluation of the warfarin-resistance polymorphism, VKORC1 Asp36Tyr, and its effect on dosage algorithms in a genetically heterogeneous anticoagulant clinic.</title>
            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=5639012&amp;cid=s_34411_60_f&amp;fid=34411&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D22266406%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSION: Warfarin sensitivity was predicted by known VKORC1 and CYP2C9 SNPs. However, resistance associated with p.Asp36tyr in VKORC1 would not be predicted by the usual markers. Despite its relatively low frequency (3/186 or 1.6%) clinical considerations may warrant its inclusion in pharmacogenetic screening for initial warfarin dosing in clinic populations with a heterogeneous population base.

<description>We examined the nocturnal profiles and levels of the following blood parameters: electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus), nonprotein nitrogenous compounds (uric acid urea, creatinine), and glucose, in 15 men (38.0±0.9years) exposed chronically and daily for a period of 1-20years, in the workplace and at home, to a 50-Hz magnetic field in search of any cumulative effect from those chronic conditions of exposure. The weekly geometric mean of individual exposures ranged from 0.1 to 2.6μT. The results are compared to those obtained in our control group: 15 unexposed men of similar age (39.4±1.2years), with the same synchronization and physical activity that served as controls (individual exposures ranged from 0.004 to 0.092μT). <description>CONCLUSION: The new Hbs result from an initial β37Trp→Cys mutation (-83Da) followed by oxidation to cysteine sulfinic acid (+32Da) and the formation of a glutathione adduct (+305Da). Despite the hydrophobicity change and the critical location of the side chain on the α1β2 interface, there was no evidence of molecular instability or altered oxygen affinity, and no clear phenotype apart from discordant HbA(1)c.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: Obesity-related disorders including breast cancer have emerged as major health problems in almost all the nations. There is a need to elucidate different biochemical markers that are being used in the clinics or have the potential for such use. A precise understanding of the complex pathologies related with obesity is useful in prevention, early diagnosis and overall clinical management.

<description>We report an unusual case of severe abdominal arterial thrombosis in a young woman using oral desmopressin. Only a few cases with cerebrovascular accidents and coronary syndromes have been described so far, which could be attributed to intravenous administration of desmopressin. Because extensive diagnostic and laboratory investigations for (un)common coagulation disorders could not identify an alternative explanation associated with arterial thrombosis, we hypothesise that desmopressin in an oral dose of at least 200ug once daily must have been sufficient to cause this dramatic vascular complication. Supportive of our hypothesis, we found remarkably high levels of factor VIII activity, Von Willebrand factor (vWF) antigen and vWF ristocetin cofactor activity (268%, 740%, 590% respectively)...</description>

<description>CONCLUSIONS: IL-21 is decreased in HD patients and is not affected by gender, age, inflammation, the vintage of HD, type of medication and type of used dialysis membrane. The etiology of chronic kidney disease and anti-HCV seropositivity independently affect its plasma levels in these patients.

            <description>Authors: Robertson DS
    Abstract
The imidazole structure is involved in the formation of several compounds in the human metabolism including methyl imidazole, imidazole acetic acid, histidine, histamine, carnosine and homocarnosine. A number of these compounds are widely distributed metabolites such as histamine which is present in basophil and mast cells as well as being present in muscle and brain cells. This work advances detailed proposals on the metabolic chemical reactions which produce and decompose the compounds. The activity of these compounds in detrimental allergic medical conditions is discussed and the origin of the medical observations of the imidazole based medical compound known as cimetidine is discussed.

<description>CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our results indicate that bone formation and resorption parameters are already altered in young HD subjects. These changes may lead to vascular calcifications and cardiovascular complications, given that elevated OPG levels predict cardiovascular events in HD patients. Furthermore, low levels of vitamin D metabolites have been associated with the presence of vascular calcification.

    Abstract
A case of altered consciousness in which ethanol ingestion was one of the differential diagnoses is described. Three separate blood samples were conveyed to the hospital biochemistry laboratory and each returned a positive value when assayed via an indirect, enzymatic method. The family strongly denied alcohol ingestion and hence, a few days later, the samples were conveyed to an external laboratory using a 'specific', chromatographic method. These samples were all reported as negative for ethanol. Alternative causes of altered consciousness were restricted by the false-positive ethanol laboratory results.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: We concluded that increased serum TAC of the patients with altered levels of CA 19-9 and PSA may be due to the response of increased reactive oxygen species and can be considered as a sign of oxidative stress of these patients. We know that tumor markers are a useful tool for follow-up care of oncologic patients, whereas their role in the diagnosis of a malignancy is controversial. Therefore, the evaluation of serum antioxidant capacity in these pathological processes could contribute to improve diagnosis of these patients.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: The immunoproteomic approach implemented here offers a powerful tool for determining novel tumor antigens that induce a humoral immune response in cancer patients. From our findings, the immunoreactive EF-Tu protein and/or the related circulating antibodies may display clinical usefulness as potential diagnostic markers and provide a means for a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying breast cancer development.

<title>Analysis of serum adenosine deaminase (ADA) and ADA1 and ADA2 isoenzyme activities in HIV positive and HIV-HBV co-infected patients.</title>
            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=4910962&amp;cid=s_34411_60_f&amp;fid=34411&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D21640091%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSIONS: Serum ADA was significantly increased in HIV and HIV-HBV co-infections. Therefore, because of its low cost and simplicity to perform, ADA activity might be considered as a useful diagnostic tool among the other markers in these diseases.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: The diagnostic performance of Elecsys assay for anti-CCP antibodies detection was satisfactory and comparable to that of classical ELISA assay. Under the same specificity Elecsys assay has a slightly but not significantly higher diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity than ELISA assay.

<description>CONCLUSION: The frequency of the underlying genetic defect in our patients with NC-CAH is similar to that observed in most Mediterranean populations. Although the genotype cannot solely explain the clinical expression of NC-CAH, discrimination between mild and severe alleles is crucial in antenatal diagnosis and genetic counselling.
