The HIVHSN.ORG and HIV HEALTH AND COMMUNITY NEWS are pleased to Host the 12th Edition of the International Carnival of Pozitivities. We are ALL living with HIV/AIDS. This is a carnival about living with HIV/AIDS and how HIV/AIDS has affected your life. This site assumes that HIV/AIDS is caused by a variety of HIV viruses, either wild strains or those generated from drug resistance, and is not a forum for those who do not believe that HIV causes AIDS. Your stories of life with HIV/AIDS, including your survival strategies, your medication issues, your friends or loved ones with HIV/AIDS, your efforts for the cause, in fact, anything to do with how you live positively will be accepted.I was asked by Ron to host an issue of the ICP sometime earlier in the year. We agreed that June would be a go...

The medications - Roche's Fuzeon and Merck's Isentress, which is still in development - could make HIV disappear in patients who have already limited the virus using existing drugs, Dr. Anthony Fauci told Bloomberg News. "We now have a scientific basis to feel that it's at least worth pursuing it in some select patients," said Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 04/10/07 BY MARILYN ELIASUSA TODAY HIV patients live longer if they face stress by venting their feelings, taking a realistic view of threats to their health and keeping a sense of self-worth, a study suggested. The findings add to growing evidence that how HIV-positive patients cope with their trauma can affect how rapidly the disease progresses. The study on 174 men and women was reported at the American Psychosomatic Society meeting recently in Budapest, Hungary.Participants were asked at the start to write an essay describing their emotional responses to a traumatic life event. Most wrote about HIV problems. Their blood was drawn to measure virus-fighting CD-4 cells and viral load; CD-4 cells decline and viral load increases as HIV progresses. T...

From PLANET OUT.COM Scientists in Texas and the U.K. have found that a chemical from green tea reduces HIV's ability to infect cells. The scientists from the University of Sheffield and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston found that as little as two cups of green tea could provide enough of the chemical epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) to inhibit HIV cell binding by 40 per cent. However, they do not recommend that people start drinking gallons of green tea as an HIV preventative. Rather, they are conducting research to find out if EGCG or a chemical like it would make a good HIV drug. Epigallocatechin gallate is a catechin, one of a large family of chemicals called bioflavonoids that are found in tea, red wine and many fruit and vegetables. Most are colored red or purple and/or taste ...

No other disease is so socially and politically volatile. It not only leaves the individual reeling but whole communities become torn by fear and prejudice. I am not the political person that others are. I am more concerned about the personal aspects of HIV and what has become known as STIGMA and particularly in how we create some of our own personal STIGMATIZING/ALIENATING behavior. We all feel it. We all can sense the feeling that we are now somehow different. That we havebeen changed on some deeper level that makes us alien to the people around us. Those of youthat are reading this that are gay know what I am talking about intimately. Those of you thatare not have still probably experienced this in your life at some point also.HIV has changed us. In some it has weakened you. In others it...

I am reposting this because It is a great bulletin but also because I believe that Diagnosis With HIV Is to many a very traumatic event that is filled with shame and guilt. It is something that I hope we can work to over come so that no one will ever feel shame for being Ill. Healing from Shame Associated with Traumatic EventsShame is a deep, debilitating emotion, with complex roots. Its cousins are guilt, humiliation, demoralization, degradation and remorse. After experiencing a traumatic event, whether recent or in the distant past, shame can haunt victims in a powerful and often unrecognized manner. Shame impairs the healing and recovery process causing victims of trauma to stay frozen, unable to forgive themselves for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shame leaves victims wi...
