A Practical Guide to Reducing MRSA: A Patient Safety and Quality Indicator (<STRONG>Church House, London </STRONG>)

"As a Board, we are all agreed that the goal for MRSA must be to eliminate all preventable MRSA bloodstream infections in the NHS. However, we don't yet have enough evidence to show what proportion of infections is genuinely not preventable. In other words, we don't know the 'clinical irreducible minimum' for MRSA bacteraemias. Numbers of MRSA infections in England are still going down and some trusts have achieved much lower rates than other, similar trusts, so we are confident that we are not yet at that level and that there are further gains to be made.
We therefore want to set a challenging and realistic Objective which will continue to drive down MRSA bacteraemia. We are looking for a measure that can be applied equally to different trusts and equally to different PCTs across the NHS...

The views of patients, their carers and others must be taken into account when designing, planning, delivering and improving health and social care services. How can we do this in End of Life Care and how will it help us to provide better services? This one day conference will showcase examples of how involvement has helped transform end of life care services. It will provide practical guidance, along with opportunities to share successes and explore challenges (Source: HealthcareRepublic Events)

Developing an integrated resuscitation policy used by all services in a particular locality to allow people to die naturally and peacefully in their place of choice and to avoid unnecessary and inappropriate hospital admissions is an important goal of the End of Life Care strategy. This conference will be a practical masterclass that showcases the experience in creating an integrated policy from three different locations:· SHA level: The South Central SHA Unified DNAR Strategy Working Group· PCT: The Bexley Palliative Care Strategy Group· The Lothian experience since introducing an integrated policy in 2006 (Source: HealthcareRepublic Events)

In June 2008 Lord Darzi's NHS Next Stage Review promised to create an "NHS that gives patients and the public more information and choice" and does more to "improve the prevention of ill health". But how much has been achieved so far?
GovNet Communications is delighted to invite you to join professionals from across the healthcare spectrum, and invited speaker Lord Darzi, to discuss these issues at the Preventive Health 09 Conference, taking place on Thursday 25th June, 2009 at the QEII Conference Centre, Westminster.
Expert speakers will examine the progress made to date - and work still to be done - with particular focus on six key goals;
·         tackling obesity
·         reducing alcohol harm

A chance to explore and debate the specific opportunities and challenges for future commissioning of end of life care services. The conference will draw upon the work of the World Class Commissioning programme and the End of Life Care Strategy to discuss both policy and implementation in this challenging field. It will provide a forum to consider the priorities emerging from both benchmarking work and emerging practice. The conference is designed to support commissioners to develop their understanding of palliative and end of life care needs and commission accordingly, and for providers to reflect on how they can best develop services in response to those needs.
Autism is a complex developmental disorder that affects the individual's ability to understand and use social communication as a means of relating to others effectively. The condition may be accompanied by additional learning difficulties. Learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder(ASD) tend to experience significant difficulty with regard to developing social understanding of themselves and others.
This has a profound effect on all areas of the individual's life - the ability to make sense of the world, to learn, and to establish and maintain social relationships effectively. The delivery of effective and meaningful sex and relationships education (SRE) to individuals with ASD can therefore be particularly problematic.
This two day course addresses these issues and looks at ways of presen...

Around 770,000 children aged under 16 in the UK are disabled. Disabled young people face multiple barriers which make it more difficult for them to reach their potential, achieve the outcomes their peers expect and succeed in education.
They can be forgotten when it comes to sex and relationships education (SRE). Sometimes information is not thought to be relevant to them, so they don't get the level of information and support they need.
The Every Disabled Child Matters campaign is calling for 'an education system that meets the needs of each child and enables them to reach their full potential', which includes good quality SRE.
This course is suitable for anyone working with young people with physical impairments in a formal or informal education setting. This course is not suitable fo...

With the NHS now in its 60th year and with a new vision for health from Lord Darzi in improving quality of care there can be little doubt that such moves by the government to improve preventive health measures are timely. Public Health is failing: levels of obesity, STDs and substance abuse are at an all time high, progress in smoking cessation is stalling and there are rising levels of infectious disease such as TB. It is now vital that the entire healthcare community are able to navigate suitable care pathways for those already at risk and implement communication, education and screening to combat future problems. On January 7 2008 the Prime Minister Gordon Brown delivered a speech at King's College Hospital on the future of the NHS. He outlined his vision of the NHS of the future- doing...
