Atypical clinical case of solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPPT) of the pancreas in a 37 year-old man with acute abdominal pain.
CONCLUSION: ACGT generally occurs after menopause and intraoperative biopsies are commonly inconclusive. Only advanced staging was related to the worst prognosis.INTRODUÇÃO E OBJETIVO: O tumor de células da granulosa tipo adulto (TCGA) corresponde a menos de 5% das neoplasias ovarianas.

CONCLUSION: It was observed a good correlation between CBG and VBG (r = 0.8742). However, there was a significant difference between CBG and EVG (r = 0.6543) and between VBG and EVG (r = 0.5038) (p < 0.001). These differences are even more substantial considering only normoglycemic patients. The existence of different studies with inconsistent results does not depend only on the glucometer brand or its specific series, as the same device may present inconsistent results in different studies.
Comparative analysis of p53 protein immunostaining (antibodies DO-7 and PAb-240) in oral cavity and lip squamous cell carcinomas

CONCLUSIONS: The expression of p53 protein was observed both in the oral cavity and lip OSCC, which suggests the occurrence of mutations in TP53 gene. The quantitative differences between the antibodies studied, regardless of the site of the lesions, reflect different specificity between clones DO-7 and PAb-240. Further studies are required to establish the best antibody for p53 protein in oral squamous cell carcinomas.

CONCLUSION: In the analyzed group of hypertensive patients, not-HDL-C was an important inter assay correction factor of lipidic parameters. The association with Apo B/HDL-C relation may be an additional factor as to the choice of hypolipemiant treatments. (Source: Jornal Brasileiro de Patologia e Medicina Laboratorial)

DISCUSSION: As to sensibility and specificity of FAN test for results grouped into different intervals, it was confirmed that results with low titer do not change post test probability of disease occurrence. Complementary tests with high specificity have major clinical value. Both the investigation of parameters such as sensibility /specificity and likelihood ratio of diagnostic tests have crucial importance in efficient clinical evaluation.
The incidence of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in children (0-18 years old) is low.
CONCLUSION: The 3rd ANA Consensus emphasized the need for quality control in indirect immunofluorescent assays since there is a considerable heterogeneity of available microscopes and reagents. It also promoted adaptations in the previously approved terminology used to classify the different patterns and finally updated the clinical associations of the several patterns with the purpose of providing guidance for interpretation of the assay by clinical pathologists and assistant physicians.
CONCLUSION: Both forms of classic and new BPD have a multifactorial etiology, but they are different among themselves. The anatomopathological diagnosis of new BPD may require morphometric analysis. Histopathological and morphometric alterations in this study preceded the need for oxygen for more than 28 days. Accordingly, our histopathological and morphometric findings would justify the establishment of treatment for BPD before the 28th day of life in premature neonates.
In this report, we explore an unusual case of adenocarcinoma detected in the sinonasal mucous membrane in order to illustrate the diagnostic decision process in the immunohistochemical diagnosis. The patient is a 86-year-old man with an intranasal mass. In the immunohistochemical study, it was found expression for both PSA and CDX-2, raising the divergent diagnostic possibilities of a prostatic adenocarcinoma metastasis or an intestinal type sinonasal adenocarcinoma. In search for a solution for this diagnostic dilemma, we tried to establish how these immunohistochemical markers could be confronted in a diagnostic decision by defining the qualities that good immunohistochemical markers consist of and how the panel markers may be compared as to these qualities and the diagnostic hypotheses....

We report herein the case of a 67 year-old female patient with calcified mass in the left adnexal region. The awareness of HMO may avoid an erroneous diagnosis of extraskeletal osteosarcoma. This case differs from most cases of HMO as it is the third one reported in females and does not present a diffuse involvement, which leads to obstructive symptoms.

In conclusion, although PCR is highly specific and sensitive in fresh or ideally fixed material, a careful standardization of PCR assays is necessary when using formalin fixed paraffin-embedded tissues by applying primers that require smaller DNA fragments for amplification.

CONCLUSION: Fine needle aspiration of lymph nodes associated with cytomorphology and flow cytometry immunophenotyping allows a fast differentiation between reactive processes and B lymphoproliferative cases. The high expression of Bcl-2 by cytometry shows its usefulness in the diagnosis of the most frequent type of B-LPD. Fine needle aspiration sampling requires training and more than one aspiration is recommended.

In this study, 40 pregnant women with gestational age of approximately 25 weeks, prenatal diagnosis of non immune hydrops fetalis and suspected of human parvovirus B19 infection were studied between January 1999 and December 2005. Serology results and detection of DNA in the maternal serum, foetal serum and amniotic fluid confirmed that 20 pregnant women had been infected by human parvovirus B19. The ultrasound examination demonstrated foetal hydrops, anaemia, hepatosplenomegaly, ascites, cardiopathy and amniotic fluid disorders. Among the positive cases, there were three fatal losses, one by miscarriage and two by intrauterine foetal death.
