Abstract
Glucocorticoid (GC) plays an important role in anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic effects and immunosuppression, and has become a widely used drug in clinical departments. However, GC also produces a number of serious side effects at the same time. After GC acting on human body, the syndrome change has some regular pattern and it can be treated on the basis of syndrome differentiation and stage to aim at further improving therapeutic efficacy. The Chinese medicine can reduce the side effects of GC when treating the primary disease, thus plays a role in Synergism and Detoxification.

This article studied on five elements system and set general and strict model expectations combining with Traditional Chinese Medicine Zang-fu organs theory, in which absolute stable state, conditional stable state or transient stability and instability in mathematical models were corresponding to human healthy state, sub-healthy state (pathological plateau phase) and health deterioration state respectively. Model parameters were set up according to the mutual generation and restriction relations among five elements. The dynamic model of Five-Elements System was built, of which impulse responses were corresponding to human response under TCM treatment. Analyses of initial value and excitation response were conducted by numerical simulation and results turned out to meet the requirements of...

Authors: Zhang C, Jiang M, Lü AP
    Abstract
Chinese medicine (CM) has long been adopted for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). CM approaches RA as it does for other diseases by holistic treatment, focusing on the whole body condition, and giving a variety of applications in accordance with the stage and symptoms of the disease. For seeking the best evidence of CM in making decisions for the care of RA individual patients, a number of clinical studies have been conducted in China to gain credibility with the researchers' unremitting efforts. But the heterogeneity in many of these clinical trials and the low quality of design in some previous studies present an obstacle to the meaningful systematic reviews (SR) and meta-analysis. Some favorable results in improvement of response ...

Authors: Xu WR, Lin HS, Chen XY, Zhang Y
    Abstract
Researches have shown that cancer stem cells, regulated by the niche where they reside, are the roots of oncogenesis, relapse and metastasis. To date, very few treatments have targeted on cancer stem cells. The authors study that the regulated factors in the niche share the characteristics of yin-yang in the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, which has confirmed its therapeutic effects in the prevention and treatment of cancer. So the authors presume that the mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine on the prevention and treatment of cancer may be related to the yin-yang balance of the niche of cancer stem cells.

Authors: Lai XS, Tong Z
This essay studies the phenomenon of 'obtaining of qi' in acupuncture. Combined with clinical practice, the authors think that it was a habitual misunderstanding in the past to equate 'needling sensation' to 'obtaining of qi' in acupuncture practice. The two concepts are different and are related with each other. The authors have also classified the phenomenon of 'obtaining of qi' according to its depth in the skin layer. Based on the research achievements in neuroscience, the authors propose the study on 'catching' the specific cerebrations, so as to reveal the essence of 'obtaining of qi'.

Based on the combination of the traditional TCM theory and the idea and results of modern medical research on atherosclerosis (AS), the authors understand the pathology of AS in three stages and have studied the stage-oriented differential treatment of AS, namely, 1) the formation stage of AS plaque treated with the principle of regulating the liver, nourishing the kidneys and strengthening the spleen; 2) the stable stage of AS plaque treated with the principle of clearing away heat and toxic materials; and 3) the breaking stage of AS plaque treated with the principle of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. We propose that the TCM treatment of AS should be based on the achievements of modern medical research, utilizing stage-oriented treatmen...

Authors: Zhang ZL, Zhu MP, Liu Q, Lei YX
Prof. CAI Gan is an academic leader in TCM treatment of the spleen and stomach disease. He insisted that liver depression, spleen deficiency and poor nourishment of the intestines are the core of pathogenesis for chronic constipation. Therefore he often treats the disease by strengthening the spleen, relieving the depressed liver, nourishing yin and moistening the intestines. Meanwhile he attaches great importance to syndrome differentiation and comprehensive regulation and treatment. As a result, good therapeutic effects are often achieved. The authors summarized his ways for treating chronic constipation with the following 10 methods, which are introduced below.

Authors: Deng Z
Bronchial asthma is a disease with reversible tracheospasm and tracheostenosis due to excessively increased tracheal-bronchial reactivity induced by sensitinogen or non-sensitinogen. Although its etiology is complicated, the disease is generally caused by internal injury resulting from accumulation of phlegm in the lungs, damage to the spleen by improper diet and impairment of the kidneys by overstrain and excessive coitus; or it can be caused by six exogenous pathogenic factors, with obstruction of the airways by phlegm and upward adverse flow of the lung-qi. TCM usually categorizes the disease into the following 3 types: invasion of the lungs by wind and cold, stagnation of phlegm and heat in the lungs, and deficiency of the kidneys and lungs, which should be respecti...

CONCLUSION: Either the blood-activating and stasis-removing Chinese drugs or VEGF gene transfer can promote the angiogenesis and building of collateral circulation for femoral head ischemic necrosis, and the combined therapy with Chinese drugs or VEGF gene transfer may show a better therapeutic effect. The present study provides an experimental basis for clinical application of the combined therapy with the blood-activating and stasis-removing Chinese drugs and VEGF gene transfer.

The present paper studies gene regulation in kidney deficiency syndromes from the simple Nephrotic Syndrome and with the principle of positive-negative regulation to control the change-over of yin-yang, the modern molecular biological techniques can be used, such as gene chip, representational difference analysis (RDA) and gene sequence analysis, so as to investigate the inner relationship between the genes and kidney deficiency syndromes and prove the effect given by these genes on the pathophysiological status of change-over of yin-yang in kidney deficiency syndromes. This philosophical approach and method can also be adopted for studies of the related genes in other TCM syndromes.
