<title>A Qualitative Study of Young People's Perspectives on Receiving Psychiatric Services via Televideo.</title>
            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=3232001&amp;cid=s_37093_172_f&amp;fid=37093&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D20119561%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSION: Young people have a significant role to play in their own care. It is critical that telepsychiatry recommendations be explained and opportunities for young people to express their concerns and discuss alternatives are provided. Further efforts to include young people may include ensuring offering alternate treatments and/or negotiated when recommended treatments are unacceptable and/or resisted.

<title>Using Visual Methods to Capture Embedded Processes of Resilience for Youth across Cultures and Contexts.</title>
            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=3232000&amp;cid=s_37093_172_f&amp;fid=37093&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D20119562%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSION: Incorporating images as research data can aid in understanding previously unarticulated constructions of youth resilience. When the researcher is reflexive about power dynamics and their role in co-constructing the research environment, visual methods have the potential to reduce power imbalances in the field, meaningfully engage youth in the research process, and help to overcome language barriers.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: This study raises awareness of children living with PMI and identifies them as a population requiring services. It incorporates children's perceptions of what they know and need to know. Children require assistance to understand and to respond to PMI. Mental health and primary health care clinicians have opportunities to assist these children within collaborative care models developed in conjunction with school services.

<title>Implicit informal qualitative research processes embedded in legal proceedings: a case example.</title>
            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=3231998&amp;cid=s_37093_172_f&amp;fid=37093&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D20119564%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSIONS: Making sense of conflicting legal positions can be considered, in part, as an informal qualitative research process. The use of textual analysis, a qualitative research process, can greatly assist in making more explicit the conflicting phenomenological perspectives of the various parties latent in the hundreds of documents typically filed with the courts in any major case. This may be helpful in mediation.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: Practitioners can expect to work with children, adolescents and adults who have withheld disclosure or attempted to tell over time having experienced a wide range of responses. Multi-level intervention is recommended at the individual, community and macro-levels. Future investigations should focus on how to identify and measure the impact of community and macro level factors on disclosure, aspects that have received much less attention.

            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=2955216&amp;cid=s_37093_172_f&amp;fid=37093&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D19881937%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study show poor stability for all diagnoses, however the trend seemed to follow that reported in previous literature where moods disorders and schizophrenia showed more stability than other diagnoses. Explanations are provided for the results. A well-designed prospective longitudinal study utilizing structured diagnostic interviews to assign DSM-IV TR diagnosis from child hood to adulthood would improve the reliability of diagnoses and perhaps time for crystallization of psychopathology and clarification into more discrete diagnostic entities.

<description>CONCLUSION: This initial reliability data supports interest in the ALS as a means to evaluate a global level of affective lability, during the euthymic phase, among francophone adolescents in an in-patient psychiatric unit. A future study with a larger sample will make it possible to confirm these initial results and examine the factorial structure of the instrument.

<description>CONCLUSION: The results suggest that attachment style is related to feelings about the self and attributions about the social behavior of others, and thus may provide a foundation for generalized social expectations that underlie working models of social behavior of significant others.

<description>CONCLUSION: While co-morbid ID and ASD generally imply a poor outcome, for children and youth with ASD and normal range IQ, adult functioning is more variable and difficult to predict. Because of delays in ongoing social development, some of these individuals may attain educational, independent living and relationship goals, but reach them a decade or more later than typical for the general population.

<description>CONCLUSION: When a child is receiving a long-acting medication for treatment of ADHD, he may feel less stigmatized, is more likely to be adherent and achieve remission. A child in remission can benefit from other treatment modalities thus improving long-term prognosis.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight the importance of considering the clinical course and the family history in diagnostic formulation in pediatric patients early in the course of a psychiatric illness. The implications of these findings for early intervention and organization of child psychiatry services are discussed.

<description>DISCUSSION: BPNOS is a serious illness the diagnostic guidelines for which are still debatable. Until further clarification of this diagnosis, the COBY definitions for BPNOS can be used in a clinic. The use of stringent criteria for diagnosing the bipolar spectrum disorders allows for careful differential diagnoses of psychiatric illnesses.

<description>CONCLUSION: A number of deficits have been consistently identified in both adolescent and adult populations that perhaps reflect disease traits. Future research needs to focus on these and employ multimodal tests in pristine patient groups, with a view to identifying reliable biomarkers.

<description>CONCLUSION: Depressive symptoms and coping style appear to predict children's self-reported anxiety, but clinicians may place greater emphasis on maternal report in assigning diagnoses, potentially missing some children with significant anxiety.

<description>CONCLUSION: Most of the 34 patients traced seemed to have satisfactory personal and professional lives, in contrast to the high level of repeated suicide attempts. Repeated suicide attempts during adolescence appear to be one of the major risk factors in attempting suicide again within 10 years. This confirms the importance of preventive measures after a first suicide attempt.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: The treatment of substance misuse in adolescents with psychosis may be complicated by a number of factors including deviant behaviour and negative affective symptoms. Thus, the current results point to the importance of integrated treatments to help reduce substance misuse and associated problems.

<description>CONCLUSION: The COPE program represents one approach to linking mental health services with students through schools. Further study is required to determine the range of such models used in Canada. In addition, evaluation of these and other models are sorely needed to better determine the cost-effectiveness of these approaches.

<description>CONCLUSION: The impact of these disorders affects not only the diagnosed adolescents and their families, but places a significant burden on the health care system and society. This article adapts an evidence-based intervention to improve prognosis, social and peer functioning, and reduce relapse in children and adolescents throughout their life cycle.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: The best evidence available suggests that family-therapy models are most effective for treating adolescents with AN, and that CBT models are most effective for adolescent BN, although family-based treatment may also be effective for adolescents with BN. Too few studies have been done on BED in adolescents to draw any conclusions; however CBT, IPT and DBT are all theoretically promising.

<description>CONCLUSION: As a minimum initial intervention, the combination of the manual and DVD/video was found to be convenient to use and was well received by families with eating disordered youth. These resources could be used by clinician treating an eating disordered youth and his or her family in order to start addressing the food issues.

<description>CONCLUSIONS: Evidence-based pharmacological treatment for children and adolescents with eating disorders is not yet possible due to the limited number of studies available. It appears that olanzapine and other atypical antipsychotics may prove to be promising for AN at low body weights. It remains uncertain whether SSRIs are helpful in preventing relapse in AN. For children and adolescents with BN, the first line pharmacological option is fluoxetine given the large evidence base of this drug with the adult population and a small open trial of adolescents with BN.

The diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD) has been increasing at an alarming rate, paralleled by the prescription of highly effective psychostimulants whose developmental effects on growing brains remain inadequately characterized. One reason for the increasing incidence of ADHD may be the diminishing availability of opportunities for pre-school children to engage in natural self-generated social play. Pre-clinical work indicates that play can facilitate behavioral inhibition in growing animals, while psychostimulants reduce playfulness. The idea that intensive social play interventions, throughout early childhood, may alleviate ADHD symptoms remains to be evaluated. As an alternative to the use of play-reducing psychostimulants, society coul...</description>

<description>CONCLUSIONS: Research into the risk factors and evidence-based interventions for Aboriginal suicidal behavior are required. A programmatic approach is described in detail in this paper. It is hoped this informed approach would systematically address this important public health issue that afflicts a significant proportion of the Canadian population.

            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=1519678&amp;cid=s_37093_172_f&amp;fid=37093&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D18392194%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSION: This work highlights the need for greater cultural and contextual sensitivity in how resilience is understood. Implications for practice with at-risk youth include the need to understand the contextual specificity of positive development under stress.

<title>Using Stimulant Medication for Children with ADHD: What Do Parents Say? A Brief Report.</title>
            <link>http://www.medworm.com/index.php?rid=1519675&amp;cid=s_37093_172_f&amp;fid=37093&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Fentrez%2Fquery.fcgi%3Ftmpl%3DNoSidebarfile%26db%3DPubMed%26cmd%3DRetrieve%26list_uids%3D18392197%26dopt%3DAbstract</link>
<description>CONCLUSIONS: Universally, parents want to do what is best for their child. Adverse effects, concerns about stigmatization, and the child's dislike of taking pills, all contribute to parents' decisions to discontinue medication even when the child shows symptomatic benefit.
