The results point to a significant participation among nurses, physicians, and professors in the development of studies. There was predominance of education and research institutions and research in the publications which originated from the southeastern region of Brazil. O sistema foi testado em quatro recém-nascidos pré-termos, em 18 episódios apnéicos observados diretamente nas unidades de terapia intensiva. Para interromper a apnéia o mesmo recém-nascido foi submetido, distintamente, ao estímulo manual e vibratório em 250Hz por quatro segundos. Os dados foram tratados por estatística descritiva. This is a narrative review of the literature published from 1991 to 2008. MEDLINE, LILACS, and SciELO were the databases used. Twenty-two articles were selected and were grouped for analysis with emphasis given to: cross infections caused by lab coats; contaminated lab coats; bacterial flora on health professionals' lab coats. The lab coat was found to be a source of contamination and to be equipment for individual protection in infectious disease. The data was collected through the Hospital Information System at Getúlio Vargas Hospital from 2005 to 2007. The results presented in show that the situation in Teresina, Piauí has been similar to the rest of the Brazil, given that in Teresina, external causes have been increasing in number of occurrences and has elevated the cost of hospital admissions. In order to evaluate the minor psychic disorders and the psychosocial dimensions, Brazilian versions of the Self-Report questionnaire-20 and the Job Content Questionnaire were used, during the period of March to September of 2006. It is a qualitative and descriptive-exploratory research. The instruments for data collection were an open interview and recording a field diary. Nineteen patients who underwent surgery for intestinal stomas were interviewed during April and May of 2007.
